It's the same model, they're on clearence.

Problem is not everyone can shop at Costco, hence why we can't really say Costco is the better deal.

They're almost always region locked, both to BD and DVD.

Some have remote control hacks to unlock them but it's not common at all

Be aware when buying from Comet. If your item develops a fault after 2 days from purchase, they'll insist on getting an engineer to try and check/diagnose the fault prior to giving you a refund.

And arranging that engineer to visit you at your home or at the store will take about 4 days from the time you report the fault.

A bit inconvenient really, in my opinion.
#11
Comet did the same to me, days to arrange an engineer visit, the engineer agreed with the fault but forgot to put a return code on the slip of paper, so I'm standing in comet with my faulty huge Phillips LCD I've dragged back in for the second time, and they are telling me without the code they won't accept the item back for exchange, even though the engineer wrote faulty and signed the slip of paper. After getting through 2 levels of staff a word with the store manager sorted the problem, but should it be so difficult? I used to shop at John Lewis until there "price promise" became a farce and they do anything to get out of it, I get better service shopping online!
#12
What is good about this player is that it will re encode the latest HD audio and output it as high rate DTS so that if you have an older amp that doesn't handle TrueHD Dolby (or whatever its called) you can still get improved audio.

The Sony BDP-S350 can be made region free for DVD playback (not Blu-Ray playback though) using a One-for-All remote. I tried this on mine and it works a treat.

My parents have a Samsung BDP-1500 and although I've searched online, I don't think it's possible to make the UK/EU model region free for DVD or Blu-Ray playback using a remote control hack.

In comparing the player, I think the Sony just edges it in terms of picture quality, and upscaled playback of standard DVDs seems a bit better on the Sony too. Blu-Ray discs seem to load faster on the Sony too.

Having said that, if you aren't doing an A-B comparison, then you'd be quite happy with this player - I know my folks are!

Heat & Rep to the OP.

lots of blu-ray discs are region free and will play on any player try this link:

good price for a cheap player, but would definately say the Sony Profile 2 players selling for about £140 are well worth the extra money, especially as more and more BDJ discs hit the shelves...
#17
Can it's profile definitely not be updated?

Also, to anyone who has already picked one of these up. Does this include the 2 free films in the box?

Managed to reserve and thinking whether or not to pick it up, especially if it won't play the new films.

yeah actually it ships as Profile 1.1 but is "profile 2 ready" so a firmware update should do it

If you mean can it be updated from 1.1 to 2 then yes you can because I did it as soon as I bought this model back in November. Downloaded the patch from Samsung, put it on a CD and followed the website instructions - it was a doddle.

Incidentally, though I like the Samsung that I own, my brother has the Sony 350 and that has definitely got the edge with picture quality, and upscaling too.

what nonsense!
just because a store isn't local to you doesn't mean its not the better deal.
I don't have a Costco near me but common sense says that £80 is a better deal than £99

I think you will find that costco requires you to have a business to have their trade card, so it means the average customer cannot shop there.
#23
Sorry to be thick , so can i stick my none blu ray disks in this then and it will upscale them to 1080p then, as was think of getting a blu ray player when my new tv come then i would only need one player.

Sorry don't know about blu ray players i know you cant play hd dvds on this thats about it .
#24

total rubbish costco is a members only warehouse so cant be compared in any deals i think you have to check where your own common sense has gone! plus all price are plus vat! i was a member for 5 years but found most costco electrical products are easy to find cheaper online

yes it will play your normal dvds ,it will upscale but dont expect bluray pic quality, most hd tvs will do the upscale for you

I got this one from Mill Hill yesterday.
So, let me tell you that it does support BD-Live. So it is profile 2.0 - no need to upgrade for this.
It does play DivX which is really cool.
USB port is only for software upgrade, so my 1TB WD didn't work.
But otherwise looks a very good deal.
v2.4 upgrade is available. Dont know what better features are there though.

Had one saved in Harlow yesterday but got the dreaded "it is not in stock" phone call

again, just because its for members who have businesses doesn't mean it should be dismissed.
Example: I can't get a good deal from Marshalls catalogue unless I'm a new member. Does that mean we don't post the deal. No it doesn't. And this site is littered wih deals like this.
A good deal is a good deal. If I was a member i would buy from Costco because its £8 cheaper even with the vat added on. Even my own common sense which you are bringing into question can see that.
Your last sentence is garbage too. So you're saying that some deals are cheaper in costco. So if you're a member it not a bad place to shop.
