good deal , BUT WATCH OUT!!!! THESE BABIES WILL NEED UPDATED TO PLAY NEW BLU RAYS!! BE WARNED NOT FOR A NON TECHIE, I HAD ONE!

I have one and the new firmware sort out the bugs that was wrong with it before.

Now there is nothing wrong with this player. it's beter than the sony that is going around at about the same price and i've had that one it's as good as the lg that do mkv and youtube the same as this one. this will do youtube and mkv and mp4 and xvid you can stick a 2tb hd in the usb ports and it will play no probs aswell, hook it upto a surround sound with the optical aswell and it will sound great :)

TBH its best to try and sort an Ethernet point behind the TV or move your router near the TV everything is heading the way of online connectivity.

My own Panasonic bluray is really good with its direct youtube access. It also allows direct access to all my pictures on picasa

cold, Better and bug free Sony is cheaper.

Agreed - best to put your router behind your telly nowadays, especially if you have a games console or 2

Anyway, good deal but the next model up (P1650A) is the same price in-store at Comet:

This is the model I got its a very good blue ray player but very fiddley trying to connect online. Good quality+ sound although if your not prepared to acess the 2.0 features you may as well just buy an older model of the samsung...

Still though great price. Is it really still 149.99RRP? Anyway heat added

Just a point for the firmware scaremongers...

Updating is easy with these models... you can:

a) update via the internet if you have an ethernet cable plugged in - just go to the menu on the player.
or
b) download a small file from samsung website and stick on USB disk and plug in / start
or
c) download a small file from samsung website and burn to CD and then play it.

VERY straightforward.

first time blu ray buyer here - what is the deal with the ethernet cable
can I use it to acces my network ie files on my computer?
play them such as songs and movies?
#17
Hmmmm...tempting.

Can anyone tell me if this plays multi region dvds?

Blu-ray players are all coming down in price. Likely will be £70 in a couple of months. Competition hotting up and lots of good value players out there. Im waiting 3 or 4 more months :)

Good if you need one now though.

Another question (on top of the multi region one!).

Sounded good that the player had a usb port, but I’d want to use it to play wmv/ avi files off the PC, and ideally high definition clips (AVCHD format or something???)

I think I read it certainly couldn’t do the hd format – anyone know of a decent (cheap???) player which does all the above, or does this push the price right up???

With the firmware update from September (so should be on the latest ones) it can play .avi and .mkv files. I've tested it with 720p mkv files and it works perfectly. Haven't tried any 1080p files but it's a good buy for the price.

It is a bit loud when you initially insert the BD/DVD but it is fairly quick to load movies compared to other players. My sister has a Denon which cost about 3x the price and takes 3x longer to load the thing.

To be honest if you want a cheap Bluray player that can play a lot of files via USB and has YouTube functionality then its great. I don't regret buying it at all!

A much better deal is blockbusters, sony bd360 (better than this) fo £129.. with district 9, 2012 and wacko jacko. Just ask in store they have them but not on display. If its still on...

You've obviously never heard of homeplugs. Nice n simple way of getting an internet connection to a non wireless device

it does'nt do divx tho, so its inferior IMO. It might be slightly better with Blu Ray in reviews, but i have seen both play discs, and i'd say the samsung is every bit as good.
