Just had an email from Richer Sounds VIP advertising this Samsung BDP1580 for only £49,95, seems decent enough for the price.

Is more expensive on the website but you just have to sign up as a VIP on RicherSounds then state this price when you go instore and it will be honoured, which can be done here: http://www.richersounds.com/vip

Seems a few stock across the country mostly in the London area however.

Good deal if you can grab one.

Supposed to be region hackable for DVD, but not Blu Ray...

1) Turn on the player with no disc in the tray
Wait till the unit is at the Samsung logo screen.
2) Open then close the tray, wait to see the No-Disc Message in the top Left Corner
3) Now press the REPEAT button on the remote, followed by a five digit code.
In this case Repeat 76884
4) When it works a 4 will appear in the top left corner
5) Press 9 to make it region free.
6) Press Eject to OPEN to open the disc tray.
7) Press Eject to CLOSE to close the disc tray.
8 ) Power the unit off
9 ) Now power the unit on again, it should now read all regions of DVD Disc.

Use at your own risk. Firmware versions may make this hack invalid. . .

Yep, a really unreliable player. I had one, and within a day it had stopped reading bluray discs. DVDs were still ok. loads of problems reported with them online. I just set it back and got a panasonic from my local RS Instead. Not had a single problem with it :)

Are these as bad as their DVD Recorders?

out of stock in most store.

The same with most deals from RS. You rush to their store and ask about their latest deal and they're all out of stock. Then they try to sell you an Onkyo amplifier :(

No. Its only for updates and BD live

Not had any probs with mine

These are indeed crap, I had one it kept freezing like other people have said.
I bought my mother has a regular Samsung dvd recorder - again it is crap - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't (timer etc)
Samsung USED to be half decent - but my last 2 purchases have put me off for a long time - they are now the equivalent of Bush or Alba etc.
