Personally I'd steer clear of cameras that use AA batteries - been there, done them - they get eaten well fast

Lithium recahrgeables are tons better

I've got to disagree I'm afraid, I get about 300 photos from a set of NiMH AA's in my Canon A720is, when they run out I've got another set ready to go in. Worst case scenario is that I have to buy a set of alkaline batteries (which don't last long) but at least I can carry on.

I can only assume that you were not using decent rechargeables, or had a poor camera. All three of my digital cameras have taken AA's and I've never had a problem.
