Chances are it will take bigger cards, but what do you expect for just over £50:)

if it says 1gb then that is the biggest it will take ( most camaras will not work properly if a bigger one is added) and most new ones take the 4gb sdhc cards so not much good for adults but perfect for a childs 1st camara

According to dpreview it will not take the 4gb sdhc cards but will take a normal 2GB will work.

But for a camera with a well respected sensor, full manual control and 1cm at under £60 its an ideal second / backup camera

Buy a couple of cards then, they are about 1 pence each nowadays.
#10
Did anyone know how high the resolution it can take for video?
#11
anyone know if this has optical zoom? and if so what times does it have?

Cheers

Get me some at that price...lol

Agreed cards are now cheap these days and personally I have 2 x 1gb cards and a 2gb card as I personally dont want 1 high capacity card just in case I lose it or gets corrupt then all my images are gone.

Have just ordered a couple of the sandisc plus sd cards which fold open a USB stick so you can upload your pics straight away rather then connecting your camera to your PC or using a card reader

- Seems a decent camera for the price even if it looks a bit plastic in the photo

It wasn't too bad with 5X zoom and 640x480. Voted hot!

From the reviews it seems a bit clunky too. Was thinking of getting it for my mother, but how's she going to fit it in her tiny purse?!
#17
Ordered!!! Was looking to replace my 5mp Casio so hope this fits the bill. If not its off to Ebay!!!! Thanks OP.

According the box contents on cpc's page it also includes the dock, remote & HDMI cable. When the camera was more widely available these were an optional accessory.

only prob i can see is that the video mode records in mpeg4 which is a real pain if you like sending clips to friends
#21

lol thats cheap but postage is a bit steap at £4.50

siliconbits
zoom is 5x

zoom = 39 - 190 [35mm equivalent] not very much wide angle.

MPEG4 works fine in media player thats what my camera records in, you get loads more video compared to normal cameras as it compresses the files

this seems a cracking deal to me give the 5x zoom and 8mp, should suit most basic photo needs. The only thing it doesn't have which is becoming a bit of an essential is image stabilization but for the price you really can't complain

Image stabilization is not essential for a basic camera. I have had a cheap point and shoot digital camera for years and never had problems with camera shake. There is no point adding expensive options like image stabilisation to the cost of a cheap camera - most people don't need it, and it would make the camera uncompetitive in price.

For the price I wouldn't expect IS but to be honest I think having IS is very useful and worthwhile option even on a basic camera as it really improves the quality of a lot of pictures especially with higher optical zoom (my mum used one recently and now wont even consider a camera without IS). BUT this is still a bargain and well worth buying.

dock also available as a discontinued item at jessops for under £5, if you find it does not come with one. Well worth getting for the remote alone.

My order is coming up as cancelled!!!

That is odd as it is still on the site for the same price and if it was a misprice they would normally remove it off the site first before canceling orders.

it is possible that this is a misprice and they have just spotted it

If you do a search on cpc for L85 you get to this page

http://cpc.farnell.com/SB03294/cameras-photography/product.us0?sku=samsung-l85&_requestid=593338

and the price is £88.12 but the original link I posted still works and shows £58.69.

also the link from the email I had from CPC still shows £58.69

Let us know how you get on and if they still insist on cancelling tell them they were honouring it yesterday.

Mine has just been delivered according to UPS website:)

Panic Over!!!!
Cancelled as I used a differant delivery address to my Credit Card. For first orders it has to go to your billing address. Called them and the goods are now being delivered to home at the posted price!

sounds good

I guess it must be a special offer, althought the £88 price is still good for this camera

The other thing it appears to have from the picture, but does not actually have is a viewfinder. The two "eyes" on the front are sensors for the remote and focusing.

just placed an order and all seems to go through ok, got the message below.

Thank you for your order. We acknowledge receipt and will now process it. This email is for reference only and does not constitute an acceptance of your order.

It might be the case that they cancel the order, who knows?

Thanks

I had exactly the same so it should go through in 2 - 3 hours. Mine was delivered by UPS next day even though I used the free delivery option of 2-5 days

Someone else had to call CPC to change the delivery address and it still went through so it is just a good deal :)
