From an Amazon review:

2.0 out of 5 stars Good apart from hdmi, 31 Aug 2007
By Mr. L. Sexton (Dundee, Scotland)

This recorder was fine until I decided to use hdmi. Once I had bought the hdmi cale (not supplied) a few days after using/buying this product I noticed a huge problem. Syncing was well out between lips and sound. This only occurs when using the hdmi cable, which kind of defeats the purpose of paying the premium for having an hdmi connection. It was so bad it's like watching a badly dubbed Chinese Karate film from the 80's. Using the composite was fine, no sync problems whatsoever.

In general it was a decent recorder (I returned mine and bought a different brand) let down badly by the hdmi problem. Like I say it's fine if you dont use this, but you are paying a premium for the advertised hdmi socket, and why bother paying this if you dont intend to use it?

My advice is to buy a different product. A firmware update id not fix the issue.

Another review here:
# Pros: Big hard drive, good performance and great build for the price.
# Cons: No Freeview tuner’s a bummer and performance is good but not class-leading

hi is this a freeview box as well

Seems a hot price to me - but there's a massive thread on avforums about this model - possibly it's one to avoid; but for this price it may be worth living with the problems...

Aavoid especially when this is only £119.99 at Amazon and INCLUDES FREEVIEW

I agree that Panasonic is great, but it has no hard drive.

That Panasonic seems a pretty useless bit of kit; what point there is having a built in freeview tuner with no HDD?

Can someone tell me, if it doesn't have a freeview tuner how the spec reads 'Record 1/watch another feature' ? That soft of imply's it's a dual tuner model . . .

I think it has an analogue tuner and they are possibly being slippery in their description - it probably means you can record from one input while watching from the HDD.

could this be used with virgin tv to pause and record etc?

I've got the old Panasonic with Freeview but no HDD!

Its served me well for 3 years and shows no sign of stopping, but Panasonic's have one major drawback for me, which is starting to ebcome a pain.... no DivX playback.

Sorry Joe for being rude about your trusty Panny  Three years ago I can understand buying kit with a tuner but without an HDD as HDD combis were so expensive!

On Samsung HR-753 I'm not certain but I don't think it's USB port is a host port (i.e. it wouldn't be able to see an attached USB HDD) - the HR-755 definitely could.
