Dont forget quidco.

Just called dixons for some more information, they said that the r150 also has hdmi output and is exactly the same spec as r155, with minor cosmetic differences. From a quick search on the net the r155 is multi format, and has a dual layer burner! Great deal.
#3
Anyone know if there is a multiregion hack for this model?

Thanks for the link, seems dixons were telling fibs when they said its exactly the same spec as the r155! Still a good price for a fantastic brand dvd recorder

Looking at your link it says it does have HDMI.......
Hope I am reading it correctly!!!

If you look at the Video outputs it says it has one.

Specs show HDMI -> No but more down it says HDMI Out -> 1 each.

You can return if customer services advised wrongly.

I've got a DVD-R155, but the manual is for both.

Differences are: -

DVD-R150
This unit allows you to record and playback high quality
digital images on DVD-RAM/DVD-RW/DVD-R discs. You can
record and edit digital images on DVD-RAM/DVD-RW/DVD-R
discs. (DVD+RW/DVD+R discs can be played, but cannot be
recorded.)

This unit allows you to record and playback high quality
digital images on DVD-RAM/DVD±RW/DVD±R discs.
You can record and edit digital images on DVD-RAM/
DVD±RW/DVD±R discs.

I can also confirm the DVD-R150 does not have HDMI but does have component.

Hope this helps.

The above link contradicts itself with regard the HDMI issue. This link confirms that it does support HDMI seemingly up to 1080i:
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/EM/200702/20070228164443906/EN/main.html
The user manual confirms it: http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/productsupport/download/FileView.aspx?cttfileid=1318248&type=DVD+Player&typecode=&subtype=Recordable+DVD&subtypecode=&cmssubtypecode=&model=DVD-R150&filetype=UM&language=&LSSI=/ca/module/ssi/left/lmenu_dvdplayer_recordabledvd.sec&RSSI=/ca/module/ssi/right/rmenu_recordabledvd.sec

Edit: I seem to have linked to non UK models so I may be talking out of my derriere.

Good price for a basic DVD recorder from a well known, ok brand.

Over the last few years their TV design coupled with so much promotional advertising has raised their status but Samsung do not make top quality DVD recorders or any AV equipment as they are not in the same league as Sony, Philips, Panasonic, Pioneer and Toshiba.

However, Samsung do make excellent microwave ovens that are reliable & stylish.

Indeed, quidco offers a further saving of about 37p on a £75 DVD recorder.

Samsung is one of the biggest electronics giants in the world , 2nd rate they are not . Companies like Sony , Philips etc all rely on past reputation for their standing in the world nowadays . Sony reliability in my personal opinion has taken a dive over the last 10 years , along with Philips , whose reliability leaves a lot to be desired , according to people who I know who have always bought the range but are now having serious problems .

Pioneer , Toshiba & Panasonic are still very good manufacturers of quality .

Thanks PJR. Yep I agree with you about sony, I had a sony dvd recorder, it was sooo slow to start up and record and had loads of problem with it.

I'm not a major fan of PC World and as Dixons are from the same company I'm just worried their customer service when it comes to returns will be just as poor. The DVD recorder looks brilliant though. I was looking for a basic DVD player which plays divx for around £50. May be worth the extra and a get a DVD Recorder too.

Does anyone know if this has a USB slot to read from Memory Sticks?

I have never had a problem with dixons, their customer services has dramatically improved since they became online only, not sure if this dvd recorder has a usb port, but for the extra I would go with a dvd recorder if you havnt got one, this was £129.99 last week.

can this model be made region free?

Hi,

dunno if this helps anyone, but as this seems to be a re-jigged R155, here is the hack for the R155, as found on dvd.reviewer.

(Might work, might not.)

With no disk loaded:

Press the Menu button on your remote control
Press the 5 button on your remote control
Press the 7 button on your remote control
Press the 5 button on your remote control
Press the 3 button on your remote control
Press the 8 button on your remote control

The currently selected region will be indicated on the onscreen display

Press the 1 button on your remote control for region 1, the 2 button for region 2, and so on,

or the 9 button for multi-region playback

Press the Menu button on your remote control
Press the Menu button on your remote control

lol I suppose thats Why Microsoft chose Samsung LCD's for all their Xbox 360 demo booths then? Also Sony went into partnership with them producing the LCD panels for their lcd tv's. Yes thats right, Samsung lcd's share the same panels as Sony lcd's. bet you feel rather silly now eh? :whistling:

I own a Samsung 40" lcd, Samsung Notebook, Samsung mobile phone and many other bits of equipment and not had a problem with any of them, better still I am more than happy with them all. I used to be a Sony "fan boy" and wouldnt touch anything else electronics-wise, but Samsung is at the forefront of home electronics these days. I would hazzard a guess that you dont even own anything Samsung? because if you did you certainly wouldnt have made that ridiculous remark :giggle:

i quite happily second that.....

i have worked in electrical retail for 11 years and have seen samsung become one of the biggest players in the business......from cheap (and good microwaves) to top end plasmas, lcds, us style fridge freezers and washing machines.

Of the five brands that retropolis mentioned samsung would be on a par with toshiba, better than philips and sony and below the panasonics and pioneers in flat panel tvs IMO
