they are totally different

Nothing against Samsung, im sure they are good. Just that the various MSIs on sale seem to have a better spec per buck. For example a higher resolution webcam, bluray player, better graphics card. I personally would go for the MSI CR630 for £50 less or MSI CX705 for £80 more (which i bought last week).

Graphics Intel GMA - would this cope with HD video?

Thats the biggest problem with this lappy - the Intel GMA graphics ... why do some manufacturers still use them?

I’m a big fan of Samsung laptops. Had two and love the design and the build quality of both. Granted the integrated graphics is the weak spot on this offer but surely the core i3 cpu will provide more than enough processing power to handle HD video with relative ease. Not one for gamers but £20-30 for a ram upgrade and you’re good to go. Interested to know what the chocolate colour looks like in the flesh (or plastic). Heat added.

graphics with this is intel hd which will do hd videos fine

this machine cant really be compared to either msi machine as i said above - they are totally different specs
dont think this samsung is a particular bargain but to compare to the msi machines is a bit silly.
the 15inch msi is very weak in power although has bluray
the 17inch msi is quite nice but well.. its 17incher

I bought this when the link above was posted (£379). It's OK, it's no flying machine but copes quite well with Photoshop and Sony Vegas. Video playback is good and the widescreen display is bright and colourful. The build is OK, but is light and does feel a little flimsy because of this. Perhaps I'm used to heavy machines....

Does anyone know if you can return (opened box/turned on) laptops to Argos? About to pop in and pick this up as a gift for someone but if they don't like it ideally I need to be able to return it.

Thanks, good deal.

How are you finding the MSI CX705? How is the LCD screen; colours and viewing angle?

EDIT: Just checked the spec and it has a Intel Celeron processor. I would not recommend it.
EDIT2: Seems there 2 versions of that laptop. The other one has a Pentium processor!

Argos link

Its not a celeron, its a Intel Pentium dual core T4500. States so on the box as well, if you are nervous. The screen is lovely (LED lit) and is the best ive seen on any laptop. This is my 4th Laptop - others been HP (topend at the time), Packard Bell and Toshiba ... oh an i had a Sony for a few weeks but that was faulty. Viewing angle is very good.

Ive just replaced the stock HDD with a 640gb one and even that is alot easier than my previous laptops.

This laptop can run 1080p fine (i own one) but it's not for games. It can play old stuff like Deus Ex on steam or Machinarium but it struggles with Portal (stuttering and lowfps) I haven't been brave enough to try anything else.

looks like a pretty decent spec, might get one, if the hard drive is easy to upgrade i makes. will it handle 3d movies?
#18
hi, can anyone tell me what the best laptops are for battery life
#19
The best laptop for battery is the ASUS range with 12 hours battery. I have the Asus ul30a and it give me about 10 to 11 hours with Wifi on.

I have the CX705MX (the cheaper one, with Blu-ray and the better CPU). Am very happy with it to be honest. I don't use it for gaming, but it has a fairly decent GPU anyway (it has an ATI HD 565v, ignore the specs on Argos).
The viewing angles aren't brilliant, but as it's a laptop most people (including myself) aren't concerned with that. The colours and brightness are pretty decent though, but it is LED edge lit, so was expecting it to be fairly good anyway.

I also have a Samsung R780. And although the Sammy has a better CPU, I actually prefer the MSI.
