Is this any good? I am looking for a new laptop, was thinking of buying the dell inspirion 15r, but that has gone up to £428 today. Would love to know which people think is the best deal. Thanks

A 6 cell battery (the one on the SAMSUNG) will give you circa 90 minutes use before needs charging. If you're not on the internet you'll get closer to 2hours. For the price you can't really expect more. I think it a good deal and I've bought it, especially as you get HDMI & i3 processor

isnt it more the cpu for video? and a dual core i3 should be ok for basic stuff :)
#18
Damn, I bought this laptop as well fro £350, I might get one for the old man now at this price, as I am very happy with mine. Battery life doesnt bother me as I am always plugged in, its more like a desktop replacement for me.

I understood that graphics card was important consideration for video-editing - not that I plan to do anything fancy - holiday videos using low spec software eg Windows Moviewmaker....anyone able to confirm if specs on this laptop will support????

Should I be bothered that machine only has 32bit Windows 7 OS? I understand that maximum RAM 32bit can handle is up 4GB (actually 3.5GB) but not aware of any major differences.
#28
hmm no I wouldn't say its a major factor to be honest. If another was 64 bit and same spec I would go for 64 but the ram limit is only a tad under what I would install anyway.

It took a while to setup and de clutter, but so far I am very pleased with it for the price. seems quite nippy so no complaints for the price, a great replacement for my 5 year old gateway :)

Any reason why I can't find this model on the Samsung website???
#30
yeah that is a bit odd! ah well no real problem, it seems the software updater works just fine
#31
gonna get one of these

once you have the machine you can use the crucial.com/uk scanner and it should tell you :) do not know about warranty to be honest. as to simplicity, well it appears the ram is in its own section so if like my old laptop, unscrew and slot in spare bay. not going to get any ram for a while so not gonna tinker opening it up :D
#35
Looks like a good deal but its getting lukewarm feeling, anyone seen a similar i3 at a better price?

not that I care, but to some the brand might be important. this being a samsung and all that. i don't even know if they make good laptops! but this one is pretty decent and I cant complain. hope they come down in price in general though :)

Right its arrived......a sexy brown number!!!..........

On start-up, did you partition the hard disk???? I did not reset any of the disk spaces.....I just stuck to what was offered...is this correct??? Do I need to do a back-up or has Samsung Recovery Solution done this already on initial start-up???
#39
i didn't partition no, but it doesn't really matter. my old laptop had a recovery partition so its not big deal.

I believe there is Samsung recovery which has an initial drive image which is accessed via F4 on boot up. do not take my word for it though as I haven't tested it out :)
#40
so to anyone else who bought this one, how you finding it? still not seeing any better deal for the spec at the moment.
