This had been 399.99 but i noticed today that they had cut £30 off the price. Seems like a decent laptop, maybe lacking in the RAM department but nothing a small upgrade wouldn't fix :)

EDIT: Changed to 379.99 overnight.

Hot, It certainly is a nice Laptop for £369.99.

However, you may also like to consider the Lenovo I posted earlier (at £398.88), which is very similar in spec but has a slightly faster (7200rpm) hard disk, has a dedicated nvidia graphics card (512mb) and includes a laptop bag in the deal.

linky.... http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/lenovo-ideapad-z560-laptop-core-i3-/819930/#post10038370

Depends what you need really, but I think both deals have their merits.

EDIT: Only £18.89 difference now the price has gone up to £379.99... Personally I would spend the extra £18.89 on the Lenovo for the faster hard drive and the dedicated graphics card (+ theres a laptop bag included in that deal).

I do like the dedicated gfx card on the Lenovo but then that's what my main pc is for. Mind you, i only have a GF 7950gt in my main rig so the laptop might actually be an upgrade. What i like about the Samsung is that it looks solid, is quiet, economic and cheaper.
#3
Is there anyway to tell if this comes with the 64bit version of Windows 7?
#4
Nice price, looks good too.
#5
Desperate to hear from the technical minded whether or not this is good spec!
#6
I went and bought this. Looks good and has the Intel i3 processor, which is what I wanted but you pay for it! The 2GB of RAM will suffice for what I want the laptop for but that is cheaply upgradeable.

Thanks for the heads up Jon79!

TOO-TIGHT-TO-PAY - that Lenovo laptop looked good too!

It's pretty average. RAM upgrade is only going to cost you £20, but lack of dedicated graphics is a bit annoying. That said, it will play back 1080p hd video with ease due to the i3 CPU.

It's warm, not overly hot at this price.

I disagree, it's hot, decent brand, good looking laptop, spec is more than adequate for everyday use and if you want to upgrade later, it's £20 for another 2GB RAM.

Dont think you can get much better for £369, i know the lenovo, is better value, but for someone who doesn't want dedicated graphics, it's a great deal
#9
Does it have HDMI?

I'm **** that they slapped another tenner on it overnight. I was all set to order it last night but then i wasn't sure if it was 64bit Windows 7 or not. I'm not even sure if it's that important if it's 32bit or 64bit but i want it to be as uptodate as possible. Anyone care to shed any light on it for me? I still want this laptop.

Hey, no worries. Let us know how it turns out! It definitely looks the business.

You can always put 64bit on yourself using the key the 32bit version has, assuming it comes with 32bit.

You can always put 64bit on yourself using the key the 32bit version has, assuming it comes with 32bit. That way you get rid of all the bloat-ware these things always seem to come with too.

They really should put 4GB of ram in these things though! There are three threads with i3 laptops and they are all 2GB.

Will do Jon. I was nearly going to buy a HP for around the same price with a much poorer processor so glad I saw this.

Yes.

I know it's a 64bit processor but obviously it would be better to have a 64bit version of Windows to accompany it. I'd just like to know for sure if it is the 64bit version or do all Windows 7 discs come with 64 bit and 32bit? I suppose it doesn't really matter because there is only 2GB of RAM.

Good to know. What do you mean by "if it comes with 32bit" What else could it be other than 32bit and 64bit? :p
#18
I think he means if it doesn't have the 64 bit version installed already :)

I'm not entirely sure 32 bit OEM Win7 disks include the 64 bit version too, however.

Can someone explain to me how to use quidco to get moneyback on this deal? I opened the quidco account but I don't quite get what am I supposed to do to het that cash back. Thanks.
#20
You login to quidco.
You search for the company you want the discount from.
You select the "get cashback option" for that company
Quidco opens a new window for that company that is tracked for cashback.
You make your purchase in the window quidco opened and get your cashback later.

Simples.

Hi
has anyone managed to find out if its 64 bit yet?
#23
Have ordered 2 of these as Play have messed up payment verification on 1st and Mastercard won't verify, so it's in limbo until Play give up trying to get payment and then cancel the order. Hopefully 2nd one will be processed without a snag.

Rang up Samsung yesterday as the model number seems to be a "special value" for a limited number of suppliers and not a mainstream model available everywhere that you can look up on their website . Samsung rep confirmed that the Windows version is the 64 bit edition of Windows 7 home premium which will take full advantage of the 64 bit i3 350M processor.

Haven't seen better spec at this pricepoint, £16.99 at Play gets you a 2Gb upgrade to max the memory out at 4Gb. Most i3 350M processor laptops are £450 and upwards on the high street

If you look around, this laptop is much more expensive most places. Argos have it for £599. Seems very hot for an i3
#25
Thanks for the info monkey. I ordered one for my parents.

You should be able to upgrade any laptop. I wouldn't worry about it but you might want to ask someone with more experience to put the new RAM in if you are unsure what you are doing.

You can upgrade, get another 2Gb 204 pin DDR3 SODIMM card for £15 at play, pop it in the slot and go.

Am having the worst time after ordering this item from Play.com. Ordered last Tuesday and they packed straight away but the Mastercard 3d secure verification glitched and it took them 2 days to tell me. They asked for reverification and didn't supply the means (via a link from my order) to do so. Their Indonesian call centre was useless as I was asking them for a way to reverify my payment - it wasn't on their script, so they didn't know what I was on about. Rang card provider and they said Play will give up trying to take the money soon (as it can't be verified), so just place another order and they'll end up cancelling the 1st one.
Placed a 2nd order, verification went fine, and so 1st order was sent, but 2nd was frozen (assume they applied the 2nd orders payment against the 1st order which was packed. It was sent on Friday to DPD for a "next day" delivery, they are the worst courier firm i've ever dealt with. The tracking system says it is still in their sorting hub. Rang them up, was told that due to snow (what snow, it hasn't snowed for a week, and we managed to get DHL/UPS deliveries on time at work when it was snowing hard in Newcastle), i'd be lucky to get it at the end of this week.

1 week (optimistic) for a next day delivery??? Play couldn't give a toss about their shortcomings, or that of their nominated couiers.

Good buy, but you might not get it in a hurry!
#31
DPD cannot guarantee Xmas delivery on mine posted on 9th Dec with "next day delivery" service. Still on sorting hub, and when it arrives at Newcastle depot there is a DPD website bulletin that says it will be a minimum of 3 days delayed. That doesn't even take into account the impending snow and icy conditions we're supposed to expect from tomorrow and onwards.

Will refuse delivery to return to sender so I get my refund. Last thing I buy from Play that's too big to go by Royal Mail post.

Buying Acer Aspire 5741A from Argos for £399.99 instead - better spec, 3 year warranty, and only £20 more

Right, got this the other day. Comes with 32 bit Windows 7, which is probably why they've only thrown in 2GB of RAM.

Seems a good build, nice weight (not too heavy). Widescreen and has the numbers pad on the right. Having some issues getting the wireless card working with my network at the moment but will investigate further in a day or so. I have upgraded the wireless adapter driver for Windows 7 but with no joy. Will report back if I get this sorted.

I haven't tried viewing any HD content to see how it looks but will hopefully do that soon and report back.

I swear someone posted that they had phoned samsung to see if it was 64 and stated clearly that it came with 64bit. Now i can't find that comment. I think i'm going mad.

Jon, I thought I read this too on this page, although it went through the setup process itself when I booted without an option for 32/64 bit.

It doesn't concern me too much but I will upgrade if needs be at another point.

It probably doesn't matter much but if i was you i would phone Samsung on 0330 7267864 or 01932 454358 and say you bought the laptop thinking it was 64bit and would they be able to send you out the 64bit version if you return the 32bit version to them. It's their fault. It shouldn't be difficult to advertise exactly what you are selling.

How is it speed wise?

I take back what i said. Having spent the night setting up this laptop for my parents i'm impressed. I don't think it matters that it is 32bit as it's very responsive and the build quality is superb. Very slick laptop and quiet as well.

You can reinstall any windows and get the 64 bit version, just download the windows 7 installation disk as an ISO and reinstall with the product key that came with your laptop (sticker on bottom of laptop). During the installation it will ask which edition you want. Pick the 64 bit addition to install. Just google windows 7 installation disk download and download the ISO then burn.

Sent mine back unused. Went for the Acer 5741A with an extra 1Gb memory and 3 year warranty, otherwise same spec. Very impressed with the Acer.

been told 2Gb is the max that this machine will support?? (by Orcalogic)

thanks

Hi, I am looking at this laptop today on play.com and it is £349.99 inc. free delivery.

I have a few questions:
1.Has anyone successfully upgraded from 2Gb to 4Gb?
2. Can anyone confirm if it has bluetooth?
3. What is integrated camera like? Is it good enought for Skype/MSN video calls.

I am very close to buying this today from Play before price goes back to £449.99!
