Shouldn't really be voted cold just because Scan are slightly cheaper.

Not all of us [like me] can get free delivery [and I AM a member of AV Forums]....

Depends on where you live [NI]..

FYI, This is a 3.5" for PC rather than laptop

Good price for a 1TB Drive.

and 7200rpm as well. Pfft, cracking deal. And i agree with the comment above about Scan, not everyone has the free delivery option, so this is good for those who cant get it from Scan without paying £7 del charges.

I agree and have voted hot as my last info was wrong and not all can get free delivery from Av forums, plus you do have to be a member for 7 day with a post count of 20. This is easy to do but those only just signing up will miss out on todays only prices so this is indeed hot!

I have a 250gb seagate 7200rp which is like 6 years old, I was wondering would I see faster boot times?

Also I am using my media on a external 1tb drive for streaming to the AC RYAN, would I see better speeds and less stutter with this drive over a wired network?

Thanks

tbh i dont have the drive but as the generations advance the 7200rpm etc isn't the only factor.
the way the drives are built means the data is more densely stored as tech improves (and probably other stuff) which means that any new 7200 or perhaps even new 5400rpm will be faster than an old 7200rpm.
you will probably get increase boot time as this drive is generally considered one of the fastest around
not sure but i dont think you'd get an improvement in streaming as pretty much any hard drive should be fast enough to cope with the required data transfer but then as i see you have wired id have thought that the network should cope too easily.

There may be marginal improvements but for a real difference get a Solid State Disk (SSD) for your system drive.

But isnt the HD box fitted with a 1Tb anyway!?!? I thought it was that crappy Anytime reserved space that knocked it down to 500Gb in which case tis would surely be no better?!?!?!

Nah they offer a 1TB version as an extra, its not standard.

Heat added, ordered one.

Thank you ordered one

Heat added.
An excellent example of how to post a deal.
I have been a Scan discount person since day one of their offer before the forum discount deal ever appeared and think all Scan posts should just be price + PP and that's it. No Forum crap and such.

Definitely would see faster performance with newer drives. Don't expect everything to be twice as fast, but anything bottlenecked by disk read/write would see an imporvement.

Hard drive is slowest part of any computer, so faster disk directly translates into faster performance.

To get good boost you can buy two of those or any other two identical drives and set them up in RAID 0 (stripe), which would split load between two disks giving you 80% performance boost. A thing to note about this setup is that if one drive fails all data is lost. It gives you almost twice performance in read/write and uses all space on both disks, ie 2x1GB = 2GB
Another option is too have RAID 1 (mirror), which would have identical copy on both drives. This will not improve write performance, but double read performance. If one drive fails all data is intact. You will be limited to half of available disk space.

I'm not a big fan of SSD as they are very expensive and having anything less than 250GB is not enough for everything to be installed. I don't think boot times is relevant with Windows 7. There is no need to shut down computer as you can hibernate it instead.

Its cheaper at scan and has been for at least the last 5 months. The free delivery from scan is easy to get. The deal is nothing special and on a par with most other retailers.

I have been tracking this, and the lowest i have seen it before xmas was £36 something and £40 is probably high, especially for us hot deal fans.

Ahhh... that does ring a bell (_;) So is it easy to mod the Sky HDD? does the new box show the amount of space? AFAIK the old box used to show 100% full past the standard 80Gb then just allow you to keep recording?

"Ropey" Samsung? Think you need to do some research my friend.

At this price, this is without doubt the best drive on the market at the moment.

Ordered, thanks OP.

Indeed these drives are quick but Samsung don't make very reliable drives imo, I have a stack of faulty ones here taken out of computer repairs I have done over the years. Plus you only need to hold a Samsung Drive and WD drive in your hands to tell that the WD drive is significantly better with regards to engineering and build quality!
WD are a far superior HDD manufacturer IMHO.

The one I got from amazon last month (same price) qualifies for Samsung's UK warranty. Most other UK suppliers seem to be selling grey imports which don't qualify for Samsung's warranty, although several sellers do offer their own.

I bought one of these a couple weeks ago from eBuyer. Bought a few stuff at the same time so the price was about the same. Still voted hot by me! Very good hard drive.
