Yes indeed. I'm planning on a Synology DS211J as soon as I can get prices for one. I believe it should replace the DS210J which is currently £149 without disks.

This is the fella anyway >

Wow aren't drives getting cheap, paid £69.99 for a 2tb drive only a week ago. Recently found and very old old receipt for a 6 GB Western Digital Big Foot HD cost £245.

I can recall getting a 1GB Quantum Fireball for a ton and thinking it would last me an eternity X)

1GB -- Luxury.

I 'ad it tough. (Monty Python sort of talk)
Work down mill 25 hrs a day, when I got home our Father would whip us to death with broken glass then dance on our grave etc...

I remember paying £350 for a 50MB add-on box (hard disk+interface) for the Amiga 500. A same color box that plugged in the right side of the Amiga.

My first big PC hard disk was a whopping 200MB. (That was cheap at only £130).
I used MS-Dos 3.

Later - Windows 2 came on two 1.44 (HD) floppies or it may have been the 720KB (SD) disks. Think I'd had 100MB before that.

That was with the Intel 386DX (with maths co-processor built in!) 100MZ (4*25MZ)
Didn't even need a cooler.

Can a nice fellow recommend a caddy I can place this in?

I purchased this one from CCL, (Drop in Caddy) Dual 3.5inch & 2.5inch Hard Drive Docking Station - HD-HDOCK01_Dual . TheSamsung F4 2TB works a treat in this caddy, I have it as a Video Media Storage drive, USB fom PC for transfer of movie files, then hook up USB through Samsung Blu Ray media player USB, hoping to purchase a 2nd Samsung F4 2TB when they come down even further in price and then sit next door to it's brother in the caddy!

EARS.
Don't the WD's suffer from the parking every 8 seconds, clocking up 1000's of hits reducing it's lifespan?

I paid £100+ for my first IBM hard drive with a gigantic size of 10 mb (yes, megabytes!!!)

I remember it took me a whole day to copy all my 360kb 5.25" floppies to it :-)

Beats my £350 for 50MB+Controller.

I had a Superboard II - like the Nascoms. A hard disk was in the realms of scifi after watching UFO.

I remember the controller being as big as the motherboard itself and I think that may have been for a floppy.

The first 3" floppy drive cost me £200 inc. interface and that was for the Amstrad CPC464. It was like a dream compared to using the built in tape-deck. I had used 5.25 floppies but never owned one.

Sadly the only relics I have are a Superboard II and a Commodore Vic-20. Stupid name.

I've also owned the Tandy TRS-80, Dragon 32, ZX80 in kit form and used a BBC Micro.

I've even had Windows 2 on my 100MZ (4*25MZ) 386DX but never Windows 1. I can't remember how much Ram I had though. You had to type Win at Dos prompt or enter it in your autoexec.bat.

Something to write while it's thundering outside.

Can this drive b installed in sky+ HD ?

Hiya mate, I am interested in getting this docking station to go with my sumvision media player. Can you just confirm a couple of things:
A) It has usb2 connection to simply connect the caddied hard drive up easily to the meida player.
B) Does it put any sofware on the drive as I would swap the hard drive between the hot swappable docking station on my pc case and the media streamer.

Hope this makes sense!!

yes, although I prefer having OS and apps on their own drive and media/assorted files on my other drives that way if a full re-install is needed the files are safe, at the very least I would partition it.

The only downside is the spindle speed of 5400 rather than the higher 7200rpm that's preferred by many for their OS drive.
#34
thanks..

ordered F3 1TB instead since I didn't need the extra space..

looking for another HDD now just to install OS(s) got £45 to spend.. any recommendations?

This deal is £1 cheaper (from Novatech), also with Free Delivery, and 3% Quidco (saving another £2)

Just ordered one from there. For some reason this deal is hotter, even though it is more expensive and it was posted a day later too :|
