The smart Samsung Galaxy Apollo makes it easy to stay in touch with your favourite contacts on Facebook ™, Twitter ™, email and instant messenger.

This touchscreen phone supports the Android operating system, and comes with tons of pre-installed apps to brighten your day, including Google Maps ™ and Layar™, the augmented reality browser that shows you detailed information about your surroundings and helps you to find local services. There are over 70,000 apps to discover online, at Android Market ™.

Galaxy Apollo features the Samsung Social Hub, a place to find all of your calendar events, contacts, calls and messages. Social Hub sends all of your social network updates, instant messages and emails straight to your smartphone, and the Swype message editor lets you quickly respond to friends by sweeping your finger across the virtual QWERTY keyboard.

With full Google support, Samsung Galaxy Apollo has many of the same programmes that you use everyday on your netbook, laptop or computer, such as Google Search for finding websites, and Gtalk ™ instant messenger. That's only part of what makes Galaxy Apollo so easy to use - the intuitive touch interface is designed to look and feel familiar, especially if you've been a fan of previous touchscreen Samsung phones, like the brilliant Tocco Lite. Make sure to protect your new phone's display with a durable screen protector, which will keep it free from scuffs, scratches and dust.

You can use the Galaxy Apollo to go online, either via 3G or Wi-Fi, and browse your favourite websites, watch online videos or even play online games, as there's full support for flash videos and java content. The pre-installed YouTube ™ app lets you quickly access all the latest clips, and watch them on the bright, crisp WVGA display.

Galaxy Apollo is like a miniture cinema in your pocket, thanks to its powerful video player and beautiful display. The video player supports DivX and Xvid movie files, as well as Real and WMV movie files, so you can transfer your favourite films to a microSD card and watch them on your mobile.

Catching a flick with a friend? There's no need to crowd round your smartphone - thanks to Samsung's DLNA technology you can wirelessly connect your phone to a compatible TV or laptop and stream videos between them! Your phone even doubles as a remote control for your DLNA-enabled TV!

A stylish phone with powerful features, the Samsung Galaxy Apollo is easy to set up, fun to customise and great to play with. It will keep you connected to your favourite contacts, social networks and more. Make sure to protect your new phone with a durable mobile case, which will keep it safe from damage while it's in your purse, bag or pocket.

Is this "better" than a San Francisco?

The SF is larger and has a higher resolution, and has 512MB RAM vs. the Samsung's 256MB.

I would still prefer san francisco over this

This is the same Samsung that made the awesome Galaxy tab. I wonder why they put their name to phones that compete with budget LG's and ZTE's. OTH that's the open nature of the Android platform for you. Upgrades offered as often as when windows was launched, mutating like a fruit fly in the microwave.

Lots of people complaining about the 2.2 making their phone freeze, so downgraded though.
When something like this, or SF comes out with official Froyo - I might indulge, but custom ROMs ...

Froyo 2.2 Japanese Jellyfish running on my San Francisco for months

I am running a custom froyo rom from modaco on my sf it is faster, more stable and has more features.

My son has been using the phone for about 5 weeks now. It is not a bad phone at all. I have installed 2.2 roms with no issues at all.
I have a SF and he has better battery life than I do. I know that isn't a great achievement as the SF is not reknown for battery life.
The screen is a little bit smaller than the SF, but it is a good clear screen.
Considering it is £20-30 cheaper than the SF, it is a good deal.

So after credit you're paying £80. Not bad, but not much difference from the SF, really.

Not sure what the support is like on the SF, but Samsung are as good as Nokia for warranty. Plenty of drop-off points and 2 year warranty.

hubby needs a new phone to see out his contract (htc desire got stolen out of his work locker last week).:(

whats the difference between the i5800 and the i5801? as its available in a couple of places for the same price. http://www.comparemobiledeals.com/mobile-phones/Samsung/i5801-Galaxy-Apollo?tab=Pay-As-You-Go

is it just a colour varient or a completely different phone? cant find any info as to which is best. :|

Edit. Sorry the i5801 is actually a tenner more when the credit is added.

as far as i know the i5801 is exclusive to orange in the UK so its gonna be locked.

As an extra note, this is the same as SF cpu so it's ARMv6, don't expect Adobe Flash support anytime soon...

On another note, my SF is great for my needs, better than my old 5800 by far, and don't browse many flash websites so it's all good :)
#28
Who actually needs/ uses flash on internet to its full use?

My iphone and blackberry have been absolutely fine for browsing the web( obviously more so the iphone) all this Flash talk is smack. Yeah, I cant watch videos on bbc news or play some funky browser game but really, who does that bother?

Used one of these at work the other day, surprisingly decent handsets.

I've bought orange phones in the past (from orange shop online) and the £10 credit is in a sealed envelope. When I had to return one phone (unused) I returned the credit as well. I (evetually) received a full refund.

Excellent deal - nice find OP. BTW - don't forget to phone up and cancel the "two promotional services" which come with this else you'll start paying for them when the one month free trial is up.

Apart from this niggle I think it's a really good phone for the money!
