Issue with PAYG phones is that need to be very careful with tariff you get put on, I probably would choose the o2 tarrif even though its £10 more

I bought this it came unlocked, someone has already posted a cheaper deal on their sister site mobiles.co.uk £69.95 plus £10 top up.

I currently work for CPW myself, all the phones are already unlocked (Except Iphone4) the minimum topup will be on the simcar itself and there are no logo etc of the network on the phone itself.
Decent phone running android 2.1 def better than sfran

thanks for info, but wouldn't the "orange" version still come with built in orange network links & software, splash screen etc ?

Mobiles.co.uk is a branch of carphone warehouse, so if you are using a credit card be prepared for your card to be stopped for a check after you pay them. It's happened to me twice. Good deal though, heat added.

what version of android? specs? processor? camera quality?

The link in the OP says it has android 2.1 (and upgradable to 2.2 apparently) and a 3.15mp camera. Couldn't see any mention of the processor I'm afraid, sorry.

667MHz processor CPU and 256MB of RAM (Orange San Fran has 512MB RAM)

It's because they're not all unlocked. Again, false information from an 'employee'.

mate disagree with you.

battery life on sanfransisco is rubbish. the only reason you all think its better because of the large community at modaco. the samsung will probably better that. how long did you have to wait for a kernel source? how long did you have to tweak to get a 2.2 to work properly? once the lib issue was sorted then another batch of custom roms started. its not always about custom rom. some people like to use a phone for its main purpose, calling! with an occasional browse here and there.
you'll be surprised how many people don't care about specifications. i know a whole batch of idiots who got the wildfire as the desire was out of stock despite me telling them to wait for that. yet they are happy with their phones. no i don't work for carphone warehouse. no i don't work for phones4u or any mobile retailer. but the worker from carphone warehouse is RIGHT. all their phones ARE UNLOCKED. only exclusive rights phones and iphones aren't.
logic speaks, is the orange san fransisco avaible on t-mbole on their site?would it come unlocked?NO. was the t-mobile pulse on any network?no but if carphone warehouse sold that then no it won't still be unlocked.
the HD7 is exclusive to o2. so it will be locked. thats how it all works really so wont insult anyone.

im so tired of people always making threads about any android phone vs OSF, not to be aimed at just you. its just becoming common. and to make it clear i am not flaming the OSF. i had owned two and sold them for a neat profit because both were OLED. i'll stick to my vega for my games and my desire hd until november when quad-core is out. then the orange san fransisco will look its age wont it?
build quality of OSF is poor, you can't argue about that either. how many of those have been returned as faulty or w.e.???
#34
Can anybody confirm that this phone supports Flash and things like BBC iPlayer will work on it. There seem to be conflicting specifications and reviews on it. Thanks.
#35
just FYI, These have been £80 since they came out @ carphoneWH. they never were £179, (on orange anyway.) And are unlocked.
#36
Can't decide between this phone and San Fran. The main advantage of Samsung is battery life, also I'm sure built quality is better with Samsung, one of my colleagues had Zte Racer (which I believe is very similar to San Francisco) and it looked really cheap.

You can get one from Play, Argos, Tesco Direct, Prepay Mania but all have some degree of top up required. Best trick is to find a friend on orange payg and get them to phone and order one directly from sales (not in an orange shop, they'll say they don't know what you mean and try to sell you a more expensive package), that way you'll get it for 79.99 without any need to buy credit.

When you've got it, look for your IMEI code (should be on the side of the box) and type it into this code generator:

unlock sf

Make a note of the number (think it's around 8 digits). Boot up the phone with your vodaphone sim inserted, when prompted type in the code you were given. Simple as that.

Total technophobe I'm afraid - I've just received my free Giffgaff sim, would this be a good phone to use with that ? I travel around the country buying at auctions so I am most interested in surfing the net on any potential new phone.

Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

You seem to know your mobiles - so what would be your top choice of a decent (also VERY low cost!) PAYG mobile for a bloke (so no round-shaped, girly-looking ones), used primarily for calls with a fair bit internet usage (mainly maps/navigation and email reading / sending - not too bothered by camera / movie taking capability) and with really good battery life?
