Damned fine phone for a damned fine price

Reading about the S3 on the BBC site & they said the world wide demand for the Note exceeded industry expectations - too right.

This form factor is going to stay me thinks.

      Designed for Elephants.

Remember, the S3 is designed for Humans

Can you not get a protective cover or a chain to your wrist ?

This is a man size phone for man size hands :)

Given the rather unimpressive spec list of the s3, this is a bargain.

I didn't think the spec was THAT bad on the S3 ok it's not going to be a game changer but it's still a nice spec and it does move things on unlike many of the competitors next gen phones. It does raise the interesting prospect of what Apple will now do with the iPhone 5 which could then take the crown back if they do something exciting with it.

      Interesting times ahead for sure!

The specs of the S3 are pretty good, what phone do you think has an overall better spec ?

at least one variant will feature an Exynos quad-core processor. The HD Super AMOLED Plus display did not appear though but it does have a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display that looks pretty good, with resolution of 1280 x 720.

There’s also an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, flash, zero shutter lag and 1080p HD video capture along with a 1.9-megapixel front-facing shooter, 16/32GB of internal storage (expandable to 64GB via microSD), NFC support, a 2100mAh battery and the physical home button still appears although in a smaller form. It runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (to be fair it really had to or there would have been major disappointment) and there’s also a/b/g/n WiFi, WiFi HT40 and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.

Definately considering this, will make a decision over the weekend --- if I can grab that Virgin sim-only deal too!

      Cheers OP

Dont get me wrong, the specs of the s3 are the best you can get on a phone at the moment, however the core specs are hardly a big change from last years s2. Or indeed not much of a great improvement over the note unless you want the gimmicky side specs.

Phones are coming to a bit of a dead end. Quad core processing, but nothing out there that really needs quad core on a phone. Heck, my single core xperia play and the wifes single core nokia 710 speed along. Other than cramming more RAM and higher pixels on a screen they can't do much more at the moment.

I reckon built in pico projectors will be the next thing

Ah, okay, that's fair comment, as I have the note and certainly won't be changing to the S3.

I want the white one which seems to be still way more expensive than the dark blue one. Any ideas of a cheaper place please? Cheers.

That's been the case for a while really, at least on the hardware front. The big leaps forward were the HTC Magician in 2005 (the phone that Apple ripped off) - the first major smartphone where the touch was the entire interface. Then the idea of bigger screens, but that's not so much an idea, as just waiting for consumers to accept the idea of phones getting bigger again. This has been an obvious trend for maybe 3 years now.

The next improvement would be to have almost no bezel at all, and no buttons. Just a screen, nothing else. That way you can have a 4.5" screen on a relatively small phone.
