I'd guess a new galaxy note wont be far behind..
you must be joking :D
I think youre confusing your uncles galaxy note with your uncles archos 7.
Its gingerbread - soon to be ICS - ofcourse it does backgrounding applications! and with ease. Its one of the fastest phones on the market with 1.4ghz dual core processor, 1gb ram. Has the highest resolution on the market last time I looked too (yes iphone beats it for PPI though).
Super fast... amazing screen... good battery life... fits into all my pockets no problem. Could never go back to a small iphone screen again - looks like a babys toy!!
Got it for £470 on release - no regrets whatsoever... will be even more awesome in a few weeks with ICS.

I would still go for Galaxy note as for 400 £ you are getting the best Bang for your Buck
S3 will be about 600£ so you paying a massive premium there .
at the end of the day its a personal judgement but I would go for NOTE if i have the option again

Same here, bought on release and no regrets - it's a superb phone and the screen is just stunning, it's great for web browsing and many other applications plus very handy for showing people photos and videos. No problems with performance or stability either.

No VAT as it's in the EU - I bought my Note off Amazon.de, you pay for shipping and depending your payment probably a commission charge as well but that still worked out substantially cheaper than buying from Amazon UK. The Note was a German model so came with an EU plug and the startup screen was in German (two taps to change it) but no other issues otherwise, my Note was shipped from the UK and arrived in a couple of days, works fine on Vodafone (didn't even need to enter any settings).
I'm finding quite a few prices working out cheaper on Amazon.de, I don't know if it applies in general but each item I've bought from them has shipped from the UK not Germany so it's arrived quickly. The shipping hasn't been expensive (around eight euros) nor the commission charge plus the items have arrived promptly.
