i have my advent vega running vegacomb 1.6 which, despite a couple of wee glitches, is a nice OS.

this is a good deal however and i shall add some heat

great price,

heat added.

A couple of glitches is a bit of an understatement. Flash doesn't work. Camera doesn't work, touch detection issues round the edge of the screen.

I found the Cyanogen nightly builds to be a much more pleasant experience.

Same - I have the Advent Vega also running VegaComb. It's a great OS. For £199 with a 10.1" screen, it's got to be a better deal - however I guess the 16GB is a bonus. Heat added for price, but I do recommend the Vega - it's the third tablet (and fifth Android device) I've owned, and by far the best. IMHO of course.... :)

I have the NVFlash hack, and have no issues with touch detection - and my camera works... ???

Anyway - no sense in hijacking this thread with arguments about VegaComb!

You running vegacomb?

edit: yes you are

So for example, if you go into market and try to select the search box, you can do so without issues?

iPads are cool! Activated through iTunes! Made of win! Won't play dodgy MKV's or FLAC's!

Anyway, this seems to be the WiFi ONLY version, in case some people were wondering as the description doesn't say otherwise.

what do you mean by dodgy MKV's? are they selling fake louis vuitton handbags or something?

Love mine.. perfect size for reading books.. watching films etc.. and really speedy too !

THIS DOESNT HAVE A 3G function! dont know it has a sim card slot or not, but quite confuse about it

Before some Android fan beats me up, my post was in jest.

I do have an iPad but I hate Apple and all the things they stand for. I like Open Source hugely but havent found the 2 remotely comparable for my needs.

No iTunes needed for OS 5.0, play MKV through, well, take your pick from the App store:

CineXPlayer
Movie Player
OPlayer HD
BUZZ Player HD
AVPlayerHD

Android vs Apple arguments on here are beyond tedious, but just correcting your statement (on my Dell Streak I might add). :-)

I agree anyone who argues the toss over a brand that has raped their wallet really needs to go outside and take a breath of fresh air.

you need the P1000 if you want 3g with sim slot. They normally retail for around £350.
This wifi only version normally cost around £250, so its not a great bargain but ok if you are after this specific model. Personally, if I wanted a good value non 3g android tablet, I'd opt for the advent vega for under £200.
#23
The P1010 has no 3G modem and from what I've read has an inferior chipset instead of Hummingbird.
P1000 (3G Galaxy Tab) has a PowerVR SGX540 where the P1010 has the older PowerVR SGX530 for graphics.

Anyone interested in a Tablet along these lines should keep an eye on AndyPad
http://www.andypad.co.uk/
1.2GHZ A8 Processor
Android 2,3
Powerful 3D GPU
1080p HDMI
for £129 (maybe more for a higher spec model)

Seeing as I can pick up a 1st gen iPad on eBay for about the same price, why would I want to go for this?

The iPad is the best of all Tablet options for sure. I'm a huge Android fan but even I can admit the Tablets can't even hold a candle to the iPad yet.

Yes £249 was for 3G version. 3G is worth on its own around £70 so this should cost just about £150.

Flash? Cameras? Expandability? The ability to personalise the device to your own needs? Cheaper software? No iTunes dependency?

I love, love, love!! my Tab. Picked up the 3g version from CPW at £249 a couple of weeks ago and can't put it down. My poor old lappy sits and gathers dust in the corner, So fast at starting up (no endless booting like lappy) and the apps and personalisation that can be added is fab and..........it's a phone!!8)

Problem is that will almost definitely be a tablet similar to the Kogan Agora.

Not in the same league as a Galaxy Tab.
#32
pay a bit more and get the one with 3g, I have it and its the nuts..! well worth the extra
#33
Hmm, I'd rather go with the Advent Vega + Mod than this. Tegra 2 is the better hardware underneath.
#34
any way of getting honeycomb / android 3.0/3.1 on this?

Vegacomb on the Advent Vega is great. Works better than the Xoom. Flash works fine for me. Way better value than the Tab at the moment.
#38

There's a Cydia app called Frash. I'd never use a camera on a tablet. 16GB is more than enough for me. Again, Cydia. There's a greater selection of useful and more polished apps on iOS, which I'd happily pay a couple more pence for. I don't see the problem in using a program to organise my device - it beats trawling through a memory card littered with files that make it nigh-on-impossible to find the things I'm looking for.

is this Andy Pad for real? :) £129 for
1.2GHZ A8 Processor

WIFI
for £129
no mention on what type of screen is used yet.
