Wow I was going to buy a second hand one for £200.

Is this the 16gb or 8gb?
#6
I will buy one of these when i sell my current phone, you cant get any new phone this good for the money

Amazing Deal, even with the Galaxy 2 on the way this is by far one of if not the best android phone on the market, not the easiest to root but completely doable, and Samsung have confirmed 2.3 Gingerbread for Galaxy S around June. Root it and get Darkys Rom on there and you will have one of the fastest and most powerful handsets available anywhere, also Power VR chip so very goo don the games front.

Voted HOT good deal

I dont like the phone or the support from Samsung as it was plagued by GPS issues, if youre not a heavy GPS user get one if you want accurate Maps / GPS buy something else
#9
wow galaxy 2 already, no wonder apple are hinting at an iphone 5 before end of this year

The Samsung Galaxy 2 is released on the 1st May. Once released, this old one should drop in price so just wait half a month before buying the samsung phone.
#14
do you guys really think this phone will drop in price much once the galaxy 2 is release? I mean how much can it drop? Desire (original) is at currently £250, will this device really go down more?

If there ever was a problem, which i wud put down to user error, then firmware upgrades have fixed it.
Personally i haven't had a problem, even geo-tagging is incredibly accurate for pics.

Galaxy S can be unlocked for free anyway.

I'm getting a brand new Samsung Galaxy S delivered from Vodafone on Monday as a replacement for my continually breaking SE Xperia X10. It should come unlocked and I will be selling it as I need the money so heads up for you guys if you want it slightly cheaper and a 24 month warranty on top of the manufacturer warranty. (my contract length).

Tis a very good phone...nice price too. I remember going to JAG not long after the phone came out and they said they were doing 'white box' refurbished sales of these for 250. Funny enough they never came into stock!

Have to say I think the GPS is superb and it saved me spending £100+ on a new Sat Nav. I still prefer the user experience of my old iPhone 3GS but not enough to change phones back again, and certainly not to lose free Sat Nav.

Dunno where you get that. Rooting it was simple enough? Install the app (from website ... not allowed on marketplace but not exactly hard to find!), run it .... done.

If anyone gets this make sure you do root it and then apply the lagfix!!!! That is ESSENTIAL. The performance difference once applied is unreal. Why they ship them in that state is beyond me ....

Once thats done, even on the stock rom, it's a nice piece of kit.

But wouldn't "iphone 5 before end of this year" be in line with the current standard practice of a yearly refresh/upgrade ... the stories I've seen recently are that rumours from component suppliers may indicate that Apple are not going to introduce a iPhone5 this year.

I have a galaxy s, i absolutly love my phone to bits, (im even on it now), what is 'root'? Sorry for the noobish q.

It may drop by a tenner, but it won't be anything significant. The Galaxy S i9000 is still a hugely desirable phone and won't hit rock bottom anytime soon. As someone mentioned, look at the Desire, still a similar price now to what it was before the launch of Desire HD, news of Desire S, Desire Sensation etc.

A quick search would have answered the question, but here it is for you... ;)

Where is the best place to get the Rooting ROM from? I haven't rooted mine but am keen to do so to see the difference.
#34
Are the phones branded in any way?
#35
I'm gonna buy this little beast. I just hope to god I can use it in Korea. I have a feeling it may not be possible to hook it onto a network there.
#36
I have a genuine question. Why are people so willing to root their phones immediately after buying it. I understand there is a lot more freedom of customisation after rooting but the warranty is void as soon as you root it.

Am I missing something? Are people always able to revert their phones back to the original state for warranty claims?

I would like to root my orange san francisco and I am about to buy a desire but I dont want to give up my warranty to do it.

In the case of the Galaxy S, I rooted mine solely to apply the lagfix.

The speed everything runs at once it's done is night and day. Seriously. I could not beleive how much snappier everything was once it was applied. The benchmark score I got pretty much doubled.

Other than that, I haven't needed it rooted for anything else. Keep meaning to customise it further but never got round to it.

Have read through some of the modding sites/threads and you can do some pretty funky stuff with it ... I just need to get round to it!

And, although I haven't tried it myself, I think it's pretty easy to undo it all and revert to factory settings.

is the lag fix nessasary?

Just ordered the orange version. I am on o2 so hope it comes unlocked otherwise ill do it myself :)
