Phoned Vodafone on their 0808 0 408 408 new sales number as a new customer. This is an i-phone 4 type premium device so hard to get discounted.

Got into discussion and have got...
- Samsung Galaxy-S for free, with free delivery
- £24 for 600 mins, 1Gig Internet, 1000 landline minutes

I also am paying just £20 (free delivery) for their special 3G home amplifier called a 'sure signal' device that connects into home broadband - this is on a special down to £50, but £20 to me.

At the start i could't get the 1000 landlines but once phone had arrived and was thinking of returning in the 7 day period managed to get that added as it matched my current orange contract.

Fantastic Phone - not an enormous discount but even as a long term orange customer they wanted £150 towards the phone and don't do a sure signal device which i can use for all our vodafones.

You don't use Samsung PC Studio to connect this to your pc - you use Kies, or stick the phone in mass storage mode and connect it as a usb device.

Kies will recognise the phone but not let you backup anything and its the same for mass storage.

I'm going to just use google sync as it's already auromagically added my 400 contacts onto phone and via google calander could do the same with diary automatically when away from my PC ?
#7
is that a question or a statement

"I also am paying just £20 (free delivery) for their special 3G home amplifier called a 'sure signal' device that connects into home broadband - this should be £150. "

sure signalboxes came out at £160 but have been £50 quid for months. 20 quid is about right though.

whats a 3G home amplifier? Why would you even be using 3G if you're in your home... just connect with wifi... The whole point of 3G is for Internet on the go, when you're outside, even with a signal amplifier which connects to your broadband, its still quicker just to connect the phone to your home broadband itself.
#10
Unfortunately you can't use wifi to make calls via mobile, sure signal is like a Pico Cell connects to phone on 3G and passes voice call to vodafone via internet http://online.vodafone.co.uk/dispatch/Portal/appmanager/vodafone/wrp?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=templateCClamp&pageID=PPP_0161

does this come with texts??

the sure signal box's are only £50...

if you add an additional line onto any existing contract you saving £5 a month... (I have now added my wife and two daughters onto my contract and saving £5 a month on each.)

(warning: the sure signal box does not work with the blackberry curve 8900, as it is only 2g)

or ANY other non-3G phone then. I would have thought that was obvious as its essentially a "3G emulator" if you like, or am I missing something?
#13
No free texts ?

I've got a GalaxyS, albeit the 8GB version and I love it. A lot of people think it's a bit big when they initially see it, but in use the screen is fantastic (and using swype allows very high *accurate* input rates). I also don't have any issues with Kies other than the fact it will ONLY work if you use Samsung's launcher and ONLY if you connect when on the home screen.

That said I hardly ever use Kies as I just don't see the point of it for anything other than firmware updates... For file sync I either use Mass Storage mode or Android MAnager Wifi.

Cheers

No I don't think that it is obvious, and I don't think everyone would necessarily know if their phone is 3g... I am fairly savvy with phones, and I didn't work out why the phone wasn't on full strength until I found out that the curve was only 2G.
#16
It was unlimited texts - trouble is you never get it on paper so when 9i make call in 2 days to accept deal I'll record the conversation !
#17
to clarify;

£24 * 24m = £576 over the period
handset is free (but presumably branded?)
texts are unlimited
this is available to all

it is a bl**dy minefield out there, I know what you mean. Fair enough. You have to research and research again when choosing these things. And then do some more research.

Handset is 'semi branded' nothing on the outside and it works OK with an Orange SIM, however when it boots up a vodafone splashscreen is there. Open to all on haggling.

lol just phoned them - they aint offering this deal.
#25
battery life as with all smart phones is poor, they need to install bigger larger capacity batteries
#26
Annoying!!

Called Vodafone at 2.30pm today as a new customer and the sales guy told me "There is no way this deal is being offered by his team" He also said £35 p/m is the minimum for the described package and btw they do not have any Galaxy S stock and so do not discount deals.

Somebody is having a laugh me thinks!

I have this phone and it is absolutely fantastic.

At first I had trouble connecting to Kies software but you just had to connect before starting software. The pc software is rubbish though and I just connect and use as a mass storage device. Easy!!

The battery life I get with medium usage is 1.5 days. Which is great (double the HTC Desire and Google Nexus One.

Loadsa apps (most free)

Great music player, plays all sorts of movie files (inc HD).

Massive screen which is super responsive.

I just can't put the phone down! Love it!!

Highly recommend it!!!!

Phones area personal thing, it's like saying choose a car for me...

Some love the iPhone4, I prefer HTC Desire and someone will rave about the Samsung Galaxy S.

You need to figure it out yourself.

Yes, you will be able to upgrade to Android 2.2 shortly if not already available.
#31
clearly you don't know anything about android. you don't need to backup anything on your pc, you backup your contacts and calendar on your google account so that it will never be lost. you backup all your installed apps directly on your memory card, just like saving media files. if anything happens, unless the phone gets damaged, you will easily recover your phone to previous status with 3-4 simple steps.
in this case why do you need to use the so called "crapy" samsung softwares? I'm telling you I've been with my galaxy s for more than 1 month, not even once do I ever use the softwares. I get everything done via the phone. life's that simple!

Ive got this phone on Orange phones4u £27 a month 500mb data unlimted texts and any network 600 minutes 18 months its AWESOME!!!!!

No probs with KIES on lappy but works pc wont reconize it at all even mass storage bit annoying but no biggy.

vodafone seem to be getting rid of the 16gb galaxy, whenever you call up customer services or buy online they offer the 8gb version. (i should know, look at who started that thread on the vodafone forums hint hint :P ). i've got the 16gb version and on a great deal! the phone is great, personally i think samsung have done a really good job with it. i havent had any problems with kies, just downloaded it from the samsungmobile website and it runs fine, the software design is like having a mini os. but as been stated before the only reason to use kies is for software updates, mass storage mode on the phone is a lot better. plus legitimate updates should be given OTA anyway.

i upgraded to this device last week and managed to get the 16gb version, 600 mins, ultd txt, 1gb net for £20

was this an upgrade or new contract?
what number did you call please?

many thanks!

I got this phone on an upgrade for 300 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited internet. 24 month contract and 16gb phone for free - £15/pm.

Managed to get the HTC legend as an upgrade on the same deal (based on previous HUKD thread) but had problems with it, so they agreed to give me this as a replacement. Had to go through retentions to get the Legend deal - requested PAC code and then someone phoned me back and agreed to give me it for £15. Had tried a few times before just by ringing up and there was no way they were going to give me it. Much better when they phoned me - guy just gave me it immediately.

Forget Kies, it mount even mount as a drive on MAC. NOTHING! So i can't even copy and paste data between my phone and MBP. I e-mailed them and they said they don't support mac at all, period! Which is pretty rubbish, every other phone at least mounts as a USB drive. I have to transfer everything via the SD card which means the 8GB internal storage is largely unused by me.

This dumb oversight aside, the phone itself is AMAZING! great features including the wifi hotspot feature which comes in handy. can't wait for android 2.2!
