I managed to find this deal online whilst looking for the Samsung Galaxy S for free on an 18 month contract. Seems to be the best deal I can find so far.

You can get the Samsung Galaxy S for free on a £20 a month (18 month) contract from Dial-A-Phone.

I assume its the 8GB version as it doesnt say otherwise.

Note: This deal is intended for those of you (like me) who are looking at a cheap way of purchasing this phone (by paying installments). You can ditch the simcard provided (or pass it onto a family member) and use your current contract sim.

With the added £40 from Quidco it can potentially bring the overall cost down to £275.

To be honest i was just interested in the phone and would probably pass the sim onto another family member. I cant afford to pay the price for a new one (e.g. upfront with cash). So I was looking at an installment method. This works out to £360 in total but I would reduce the tariff to £15 one after month 9 so I'd be paying £315 in total.

looked good untill saw not data, whats the point of having a phone like this without data?

Like I said, i'm just interested in the phone as I have a contract with o2 already. However, my current phone is no good for me and I cant sell it because of a few technicalities. At £20 a month extra I can afford this phone. Cant afford to buy it sim-free.

What term was it (18 or 24 month), did you have to pay anything upfront for the phone? Some more details would be great!

Awesome phone, infavt I'm using it to post this reply however that deal has no data and only 100 mins. which would just make it an over priced accessory.

colleague bought samsung gal S via orange and he says it was full of crapware and very slow; he fixed the speed problem by following this:
http://blog.daveburrows.com/2010/08/26/how-to-speed-up-the-samsung-galaxy-s-so-it-flies/

a different colleague whose G S came from T-Mobile didn't have any speed problems.

Desire is still a better phone I'm afraid. Not a bad try though Samsung ;-)

Lack of data is an issue with the contract on this deal....
#14
Has Samsung fixed the GPS issue with the Galaxy ?. That was the main reason I was put off by the phone.
#15
i think with this one you can download your contract after a certain amount of time

Samsung Galaxy S is miles better than Desire. Advantages of sammy are
1. Super AMOLED - Very vibrant colour display, less weight, energy efficient resulting in increased battery life
2. 4inch display - HTC desire's display is less than this.
3.GPU - Galaxy S GPU is 3 times more powerful than desire's. when you play games rendering is much quicker and no loag.
4. SUPER AMOLED offers wide viewing angle (1-180°) than just AMOLED

these are just some of the advantages that i can think of...
also the latest desire's come with sLCD screen not AMOLED either....draining your battery further quicker.....

Reviews the world over would beg to differ....

Even T3 with their legendary Apple bias favour the Desire

also Touchwiz doesn't really standup to HTC Sense I'm afraid and long term Support could well be an issue with Samsung's history of poor post sales firmware upgrades.

if only T3 believes desire is better than galaxy s it does not convince the consumers like me. I look for facts. And the fact is that Galaxy S is much much better than Desire...ok i agree galaxy s lacks a flash and touchwiz may be not as good as htc sense, but still the viewing exp in galaxy s outthrows any of the other desire favors. But if you play any 3d games, i bet you hate to play htem on desire after once you play them on galaxy s. The grahics rendering and the display is so much so amazing...
every phone has got its own disadvantages....having said that desire battery needs a charge at least once a day if not twice.....where as galaxy s can easily get a day with its power efficient screen.

You can change your tariff to a higher one anytime (and also add data or other bundles if you want to). However you cant lower it until month nine of the contract.

I am still in two minds about this one cos now I have got my eye on the HTC Desire Z but Phones 4U arent releasing it just yet. I am only going through them because they will buy me out of my current contract (even though its five months in on an 18 month contract) and they dont care if it has the wrong colour screen (frame) fitted.

I used to have an iPhone but they arent all that and got rid of it after six months. I prefer phones with physical keyboards anyways.

Consumerism at its best... thats what got this country in a mess in the first place.

I cant speak for others. However, as for my self then I hope people read my orignal post first before making a comment/giving advice. Its bad enough people voting cold because the deal doesnt have any data (despite me mentioning that it was a deal for purchasing the phone cheaply). But then being advised to splash out on an expensive, overpriced branded toy... come on. I can imagine my wife, family and friends thinking i'm very unwise being unemployed and wasting around £700 - £800 over two years. The Samsung (if i was still planning on buying it) was a cheap option at only £20 a month all in.

As for the comment about the touchscreen keyboard then firstly, I already mentioned that I had an iphone and know that a physical keyboard cant be beaten. Secondly, my mate has two iphone 4's - thats how deluded he is. I typed a message on his notepad program in front of him twice (one on each phone to make it fair) and showed him how many mistakes it made from accidental mistyping. The touchscreen keyboard on the iphone 4 is probably one of the best i have come across (but very little difference between that and the HTC one). However, there were still ten mistakes, excluding ones the iphone didnt recognise/correct. My friend admitted that the physical keyboard on my blackberry bold 9700 was far superior but in his defence said that he doesnt use his iphone for much texting/emailing/chatting and that about somes up the touchscreen keyboard.

For serious texters/emailers/chatters (like business people/workers) the physical keyboard is the best way to go. Thats why blackberry has dominated for years in the business field and cant be touched. With the added dedicated RIM server for email it makes it the most secure device for data as well.

And that will always be my bone of contention with the iphone. If they bring out a qwerty keyboard clip on attachment (well sliding would be better) then i would probably consider one.

Have you tried the 'swype' or 'slideit' on screen keyboards? I can actually type faster now on my Desire than i could on my Nokia E71 that had a physical qwerty keyboard.
