Some very good deals on the Galaxy S II at the Carphone Warehouse - the one I chose was as follows:

Phone cost: £249.99
Monthly cost: £20
Contract length: 12 months
Minutes: 200
Texts: 1000
Data: Unlimited (which, according to the sales rep, is truly unlimited)
Network: Talk Mobile (they use Vodafone in a similar way Tesco Mobile uses O2)

There are other deals which scale up with higher monthly costs, so if you're looking for a contract which doesn't tie you in for 2 years this could be a good option

Nice, this would work out cheaper than the £400 from O2 and then using Giffgaff for 12 months...

Hot, just a shame it's Vodafone :(

got this deal 1 week ago, phone is fantasic, fast, very light, shame the back cover 'seems' like very cheap plastic. gotta say i personally think its better then the iphone 4.

If they do this deal on the LG Optimus 3D I might be tempted. If its on Talk Mobile, will it be a factory unlocked handset?

I would hope so, the iPhone 4 is well over a year old now! ;) Maybe Samsung should implement uni-body designs similar to HTC.
#14
I don't think we are still meant to offer this to customers (I work at CPW). :/

Back cover is flimsy but once you've removed it once to put the battery and SD card in you don't notice it. Feels fine when its actually on the phone.

Is this a recent decision? I bought mine on Wednesday, also had confirmation from another two stores that they'd be offering the same deal. There's a very similar deal available on e2save as well, although the upfront cost of the phone is £60 higher.

Yes.

Question, the link, is it the true spec of the deal as it does not mention talkmobile?

Reason being, is this the 16gb or 32gb model as I will want the 32gb one if possible?

It's an instore deal. And it's the 16gb version.

Yeah good deal, but, I took a contract out on Talk Mobile in April because they were offering the best deal for the LG O2X, and to be fair I wish I hadn't, the Vodafone 3G signal is shocking. I live in Birmingham and can't get 3G anywhere indoors, the outdoor coverage isn't much better! Coming from T-mobile where I got a full 3g signal everywhere I went its a bit of a nightmare. When/if Vodafone switch on 900mhz UMTS (3G) in the area it may get better, but just beware. A smartphone is pretty useless with only GPRS/EDGE apart from checking emails etc, which defeats the object really.

I was at Carphone warehouse today and was told about this fantastic deal too! But before getting it I have been doing researches etc which is difficult when it's just been out for 2 (?) weeks.

Anyway, i went straight to Bestbuy next door and tested the Galaxy S and Galaxy S II side by side - with the original intention of testing out Flash videos quality. However for some strange reason the SII couldn't pick up the store's wi-fi signals whereas the S could. It took us probably 15 minutes if not more ....eventually managed to get connected to one of their signals but it's not strong at all. Whereas the S was perfectly ok. These 2 phones were right next to each other...

Obviously i am worried and have been doing researches online since I come back home this evening. So far, someone who has an old iphone 3G and new SII mentioned a similar problem to what I experienced at bestbuy today.....

The deal is definitely hot but I will wait until I manage to do more research as I use wifi almost 24-7!

P.S. To New SII users - would appreciate your feedback on its wifi.. would be very grateful.

If you are looking to get this deal, I'd suggest doing it asap. Carphone stores were meant to have had their Talkmobile unlimited data tariffs removed by their Promotions team on Wednesday, but they'll still available at the mo. My guess is they'll be taken off sometime next week (I work for CPW).

You could've just returned the phone within 14 days and asked for the contract to be cancelled.

Would you get the start fee (£249.99) back as well?

Whats the point, a new one will come out in a few months, and then again in a few months.

This actually comes close to my cheapest option of getting an O2 24-month contract and giffgaff sim for unlimited internet (together with tcb) at just £50 more and you also get the unlimited internet here although I'll have to take proof of 'unlimitedness' from the in-store advisor. I like the new deals on the galaxy. And to think the phone was intially advertised at £600 sim free :D.

So when do you buy a phone? Because in this secenario, you'd never buy one. The S2 is arguably the most powerful phone currently available. There will always be better options down the line, it's the same with any technology.

Yes you would get a full refund. Also note that if you want to keep your existing number and port it over to TalkMobile that you need to provide the PAC number at the point of sale, as annoyingly they won't do it afterwards!

Terms and Conditions related to Talk Mobile Unlimited Internet (taken from website, but valid for in-store tariffs too):

"Smart Plan Unlimited internet

If we publish a policy we will let you know. Any such policy may change from time to time, including where we introduce new Services which may require certain rules to ensure such new Services can be enjoyed by our customers. If, once we have implemented such a policy, your use of the Service is excessive, is causing problems for other users and you continue to use the Service excessively we may suspend all or some of the Services."

...but not everyone on here is. I felt it important for the point to be raised, as there may be people here tempted to go for this deal that may be concerned (after reading your post) about being stuck in a contract with a network with poor/no coverage that they cannot cancel.
TalkMobile offer a 14-day contract cancellation policy - not every network offers this when a contract is purchased from a store, as Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations generally do NOT apply.

Just got this phone on Friday. Was looking at a lot of deals online and the best one I could find in terms of overall cost was with e2save. £310 upfront and £12 a month for 24 months with Talk mobile for a similar deal to this. Walked into CPW on a whim, and am so glad I did. This deal is much better. Only problem was I had to go home to get a debit card since they require that for ID verification. Apparently Photographic ID isn't good enough.

The phone is extremely responsive and to the person who inquired about WiFi it had no problem connecting to my home network. Network coverage is also very good where I live in Belfast. I would however recommend that a gel case/skin be used with this phone. It's very slim and I'm not happy with the grip it offers bare, a case really helps with that.

For any looking at an optimus 2x, an employee at Phones4u let me try out both the optimus 2x and this phone side by side earlier in the week. The 2x is good, but when placed next to the S2 there is no comparison. The S2 is more reponsive and transitions and animations are smoother. I would say the 2x felt more rugged in comparison though, and felt less likely to slip out of my hand.

Picked up an S2 for £400 on O2 last week, stuck a GiffGaff sim in and good to go! After using the phone now for almost a week I can honestly say its the best handset I've ever used. And yes I include that comparison to the iPhone3/4 (I have both).

Great handset, and if you're on O2 or GiffGaff already its a no brainer, get it from O2 store for £400!

If not then this 12month deal looks about the best bet so far. Not voted either way.

Is the S2 you bought for £400 on O2 locked though? Did you have to unlock it before using your GiffGaff sim? Thanks

Pity the phone runs on fragmented android otherwise would be a good phone.

The Phone was and will be locked to O2 but you can just pop a GiffGaff sim straight in without any need to unlock :)

That is what I did as I was on GiffGaff already so it was a win win situation :P

PS. going out for the day now so if anyone has any questions about the handset etc, I'll try and answer them when I get back later, cheers guys!

I went into my local Carphone Warehouse as soon as I saw this deal and the guy behind the counter couldn't believe the deal - it works out as £500 over a year which is the same cost as the PAYG option (obviously minus the top-ups!) with a very good contract. The guy did tell me that I wouldn't be allowed to use Skype or Youtube on the 3G internet (he read this out from TalkMobile's terms and conditions) but I'm sure I'd get away with it in short bursts!

The phone is unlocked - I'm currently using my old o2 sim until its cancelled before switching to the new TalkMobile one.

Awesome deal!
