Why are 02 upgrades now always a tenner more expensive?

Stupid question:

Is this just the phone, or are you tied into any contract?
I only ask as it is says "PAYG-Upgrade" rather than "Phone only", so a bit confused :)

It's pay as you go but you have to meet the eligible criteria

A good reason to get this is you can get a zero lemon battery for it.

X3 battery life, had one on my Note 2 for the last year, been great, only available for a few phones...

Just the phone , no contract. "PAYG-Upgrade" just means if you have a pay as you go SIM that you have been using then this is it, you buy the phone based on that SIM so you wouldn't end up with another new SIM card

Because they're sheet, no customer loyalty what so ever!

never heard of it but looks cool, although seems to also double the size of the phone

Great battery life but i'm not sure if that nulls the annoyance of your fairly slender S3 turning into an ugly brick.

Definitely makes it bigger, but not that much bigger, it's basically 3 normal batteries fused together somehow, and the case it comes with acts as a bumper case too, so saves a bit on thickness there.

I have had the Note 2 one for a year now, and although I sometimes prefer the sleeker original battery and have swapped it back a few times in the early days, I find the bonus of a battery that lasts me about 5 days with pretty heavy use is soooo convenient that I just keep it on at all times now. I got mine for £25, I think the S3 one should usually be about that price too, but currently a bit more.

my stupidity should be laughed at...

but what does the 'upgrade' means? can i just buy any of them at that price and use my giffgaff sim card?
#18
^ ^ Quite expensive IMO for a battery case as it changes the look of the phone too. I personally would invest in a portable charger (Anker)

Personally id avoid the S3 or any Samsung handset i have a S3 and its been in for repair at least 4 times due too the sudden death fault about 6 weeks due too it being returned as repaired yet was still freezing constantly even on turning the handset on from one repair,
Now when my contract with Three has finally expired so im free too get rid of the it :D Three decide for some unknown reason too block my IMEI !? so now the handset is locked due too Three, I have always paid my Three bills on time and i never reported my handset as stolen either so i await a update from Three now :(

I know I'm probably beating a dead horse here, but custom recovery, custom rom, and it'll fly.

I'd usually say CyanogenMod, but most AOSP roms are completely buggered on Exynos based devices due to Shamsung being so against customisation. They're WORSE than Apple.

My friend and I work at the same place and have the same job title. But he has a sexy girlfriend at least more modern and responsive than mine. Unfortunately I can only feel bad about it.

I'm using OmniROM nightlies on mine and and the battery lasts between 12 hours and 26 hours depending on use. Well, it would probably go longer than 26 hours with no use but I've never not used it for that long. I don't see the point in a battery case for this phone. If you are worried about battery life just carry a single spare battery in your wallet or somewhere and swap it out just before the in use one dies. The bonus of using 2 batteries in a rotation like this is that each battery would get 50% few cycles than the one would get on it's own and so battery like will feel 'like new' for much longer.

I went with the 32GB version when it was pretty new and I'm in no hurry to upgrade, I'm only really interested in an upgrade as this isn't 4G but I'm not going to pay the stupid prices that flagship phones have reached just yet. If only I could find someone to mod a 32GB memory chip onto the gt-i9305 (S3 LTE version) for me.

I've had an stock unbranded S3 from new since just after it was released and never had it freeze up, crash or fail on me once in all that time. Still an excellent phone, especially at this price in my opinion. Hot

it is a personal preference. I like the thickness and weight of the phone (250g) with zerolemon battery. I am sure that I will choose my all next phones based on the zerolemon battery availability.

this phone is to get a bit dated, but overall it is still a decent, fast and reliable product.

Surprised no one has mentioned the Moto g yet...

(Which is probably as good if you don't need SD card, and probably has better battery life)

Great price for a great phone, heat

Me and the missus bought one and there hasn't been any freezes whatsoever on either of them, been a pleasure all the way...well till Sammy decided not to give it the KK experience, couldnt even remove all their bloatware to allow it, shame on you Samsung.

Wife sold hers recently for the Moto G 4G but I'm for keeping mine as its been such a good phone and regardless of no KK on the horizon it still holds its own, I'm toying with rooting it tho and giving the Samsung bloatware the ol' heave ho with a custom rom but I've yet to suss out what ROMS are out there for it.

I loved my S3 until I dropped and smashed it, price to repair it was ridiculous. (Here comes the moto G comment.)
So I bought a 4g moto G after seeing how well my 14 year old gets on with her Moto G. Whilst I prefer the look, feel, screen size, swappable battery and camera of the S3. I think I now prefer the 4g moto G because of the 4g and lack of samsung bloatware (didn't realise how awful touchwiz was).

Be careful calling the LTE version "4G". I know the difference between LTE 4G and regular 4G, but many people don't.

They might think they can buy the LTE version and use it on O2, Vodafone and whatever when in fact it will only ever work on 3G unless you are with EE or Three (so be wary - that knocks off Tesco, GiffGaff etc.)

EDIT: oh and to add to the naysayers, I've had an S3 for 2 years. It's great, works perfectly and I'm terrible looking after phones. Never broken, never repaired......

Assume these are thicker/heavier, so how do I get the back cover on, or do I need a new bigger cover ?

PS Sorry Ignore that. Answered in #16 !

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 GT i9000 since 2011, which when I reset went back Froyo 2.2.1 Firmware. Can't get OTA software update no matter how hard I try. Phone won't recognise Kies (which is rubbish programme)
The result is, it's running painfully slow & is now not compatible with many Apps. :( . Any advise ( apart from buy a new one ;) )
I have been trying for past year, on & off to find a way to update

Try putting xda galaxy s2 roms into google, just a quick look and ive seen lots of kitkat roms for your device. Xda is a great repository for this stuff.
