Let the "but this is not an Ipad" "this is so much better than an Ipad" "but it's not an apple" battle commence :-)

Good price, voted hot

Just read about this on The Register - voted scorching HOT.

But it's not an iPad....

I have one of these and I really do like it. I can't fault it really. I just want Skype to hurry up and support video calling.

You wont get a iPad 3G for this price. Also OP, you can claim up to £200 of vouchers to use on WHS Smith's eBook store, Gameloft etc.

I have my fingers crossed for Samsung to release Honeycomb for original Tab owners. I shall not be holding my breath though.

This is the price it should have been from the start

great price, great product and a much more manageable portable tablet. Hot hot hot.
#7
Very tempted as it's a great price for a great device but I can't help feel it will go even lower when the latest android tablets with honeycomb arrive in full force. I've not heard if this will be getting an upgrade to 3.0 so that's something to keep in mind.

just got my ipad2 last night - guys the above is just a pretender it doesnt come close the equiv memory size in the states is 300 £s - buy a mifi for it if u really need 3g - ermm let me think which one id rather have - i think at half this price the galaxy might be worth a look - sorry ipad all day long folks

Depending on your needs, the original ipad selling now at £329 probably is more worth it. Anyway, Hot!
#10
The rumour is that there is a minimum hardware requirement for Android 3.0, but Google have denied this. It's funny that all the tablets on Honeycomb are running on Nvidia's Tegra 2 processor. Even HTC has a single core 1.5GHz processor for it's Flyer tab which is running Android 2.3.
#11
The difference between this and the original iPad selling at £329 is that the Galaxy Tab also includes a 3G HSDPA modem. I don't know where I would be without it. You could always equip your phone to be a portable wifi hotspot if your phone/network supports it.
#12
Really? Put off Android as their phones and tablets do not seem to have an upgrade path to the latest version.
This is a major failing even my old iPod Touch runs the latest version of iOS!
Another major issue with Androids implementation of WebKit is it's not fully compliant with Web standards - a major failure for a tablet!
Come on Google, sort it out!
I favour the iPad, however this is a great price if you really want this model.
#13
Great price, though it's still too expensive IMO.
Hot anyway as it's still the best deal about
#14
Will still go down, galaxy tab 2 coming soon!

Still double what I'd pay.

What are you talking about? Many many android phones release over the air updates to the latest version of the OS.

Incidentally - does this have a micro SD memory slot for upgrading storage space ?

(Addendum) ...it has, apparently so - up to 64gb - they don't exist yet, but thats promising)
#18
4% Quidco as well?
#19
I expect these to drop like lead balloons when the dual core galaxy tabs show up later this year.

Micro SD won't be going to 64GB, only SDXC will

Small and very portable.

Now what would I need to do on the internet that required a device that only uses one hand? (_;)

these were priced way too high on release, no wonder Samsung won't release sales figures. They could have made a killing if they got their pricing in order. I wouldn't touch this with a barge pole at 299 with all the tabs coming out and honeycomb installed, obviously this will not get the upgrade. In around 8 weeks i'd imagine you'd get this for 199.

Ipad2 is nice, very nice nut it's still running like a big iphone, Google have worked wonders with Honeycomb and that's the true tablet software to invest your money in.

I'm pretty sure that it's due to the Tegra 2 chipset being optimised during the development of Honeycomb, as Google tried to rush it out as soon as possible. No doubt in a few months time we'll be seeing other SOCs being used, and the Tegra 2 being used on the budget end by the time this year is up anyway.

...and those will drop when tri-core processors are announced, then those will drop when quad-core are announced.....and so on. That's technology for you.

To my knowledge there's only one version (in the UK) of the Galaxy Tab.

i used this in a dixons store..was very disaponted by the horrible laggy and unresponsive UI. My HTC Desire felt like a supercomputer in comparison. Wouldn't pay more than £150 for it.

If only the ipad had flash support....!
#33
Don't forget there's a £200.00 Entertainment package that you receive upon registration however this expires 27th Mar.

Indeed, this isn't a bad device but hold out for the proper Android tablets coming this year if you're looking to spend £400-500. They're running Android 3.0, specifically designed for tablets and are much more powerful.

cheapest deal so far with 3g so red hot deal for me
