this is actually the 16gb tablet and it comes with a 16gb micro sd card ,

Tried one out in tesco today. Not a bad device but not as good as an iPad. I reckon they will be selling them for £299 in the new year.
#8
Best price so far.I played with one as we are getting one for Xmas in best buy lakeside last week on the day it came out.Yeah the ipad is bigger and looks nicer but that is useless without flash for me:/

Nice to see BB have brought the price down they were asking £529 when i was looking.Might have to wait a bit longer now to see if it comes down any more:)

HHmm not too sure about this tablet. It's jerky on the internet, something is wrong with the software or structure of the software - the ipad is so much smoother. And just too expensive, it needs to be cheaper. I guess the April 2010 ipad will be 7" with a camera etc and retail at about £349 - only my guess. Still voted hot for the effort in finding the deal.

I don't think the iPad will be any cheaper when they launch new ones. They will make the 3G one the same price as the wifi model and ask a premium for the newer model which may have a camera and more memory. Instead of a smaller ipad I would like to see a bigger one.

??????

It goes

Smart Phone/PDA, Tablet, Netbook, Laptop, Nettop, Desktop

a bigger iPad would be a Macbook.

Jobs has gone on record to say that 7 inch tab is pointless. So I think the next iPad would retain the 9.7 inch screen. The improvements would be in design (slimmer) better battery and more RAM.

I have played with the galaxy and I must say given the specs it's very disappointing (so laggy)

There must be a promo code for their website knocking about

Excellent reason for voting cold! I have this device and though it is excellent in everything it does, if I had known it was SAMSUNG, I would have scissor kicked the guy in currys for just mentioning it.

Doesn't matter what the Samsung does, its screen is too small, PERIOD. I have an Ipad and the screen is quite literally twice the size, the Samsung is also way overpriced, £250 would be a realistic price point. Also in termos of flash on Ipad/Iphone, Skyfire is the answer.

Not everything Jobs says is gospel. For example his negativeness toward flash is very unfair seeing as he refuses to allow hardware accelerated decoding for it. but his fans don't care about that and repeat his "herr, derr... flash sucks!! it kills battery and causes crashes!!"

I was all set to agree with you, as Jobs has many times dissed something only to introduce it a few years later (eg. saying no one wants to watch video on a tiny iPod screen). However mentioning Flash completely ruins your argument because flash DOES suck on mobile devices, Google are secretly gunning for Flash to die just as much as Apple do, but they don't publicly say this as Flash is one of their key bullet point advantages over the iPhone. Flash sucks on mobile devices and the faster all sites move to HTML5 the better. In fact, one of the key complaints about this Samsung Galaxy tab I've seen in several reviews is that as soon as you try to browse a flash site the Tablet grinds to a halt and loses alarming amounts of battery.

11" notebooks carry a premium over 15" ones, bigger doesnt mean better. I chose a 7" as it was more suited to my needs, the Ipad was simply too big. Secondly, the ipad does not function as a phone, does not have flash and is not as open as android. They are too different products, quite simple really.

I don't quite get why there aren't any good subsidised packages for this.
DesireHD sim free is 470£, yet can be had with a decent contract for £550.
The galaxy tab is just a big mobile with practically same sim free price, but junk contracts.

Don't want to take sides v. ipad and all that but really why is this thing so expensive... if you were careful you could buy 2 laptops for 489.99... just sayin...

I agree, everyone's got a phone, so why does this need to have a built in phone and be available on a contract. You'd think for a smaller device it would be cheaper than the iPad. At least on the iPad you can get data on PAYG or on a contract, but that's seperate from the device anyway. Anyways, the screen is too small and the software laggy so I'm gonna hold out for the new iPad next year. And, errrr, who need's flash.

I only scanned over the comments, but watch reviews on youtube first, its not responsive, do you really want to hold something that big to your ear to make a phone call (yes I know its not its primary feature)? Im not a Fan of apple, but this doesn't touch the ipad.
#24
I want one so bad but sadly not paying £500 for it
#25
They're £469 in Tesco. Got loads of them in store near me. Even have an advert in the papers today saying thats the price.

I read a very good article that argued that all these tablet makers are having to use 7 inch just to get the price in the same price ballpark as the iPad and if they were the same size they would actually be more expensive than Apple, because Apple buy all the parts in such huge quantities they are the only ones who can make a profit at these prices.

Basically the old Macs are more expensive than PCs argument is now flipped on these new mobile devices. Apple can now offer more for less than pretty much everyone else in the market.

This is why you don't see any Android based competitors to the iPod Touch for example. While there are profit margins in smartphones that cost £400+ unlocked, you take away the phone antenna and the GPS and charge £180 for it and suddenly Apple are the only ones who can play in that space.

are you sure you're not confusing a macbook with an ipad ;)
I've not seen this 'in the flash' but to me 7inch does not = half 9.7inch :)

well with this if you do happen to get a data/phone&data plan with it the device is reduced in price(well depends where you get it from and on what contract), unlike with the ipad the data plan is ON TOP of the price of the data plan.

Voting cold because the product is rubbish. I know that we should only discuss about the price, but Android is horrible for tablets. I'm saying this as an Android developer, and I really like the OS... but it's just not made for tablets.

It isnt laggy at all, have you used one? If you have I'm not quite sure why it was because my one has absolutely no issue in running anything, from browsing to viewing and zomming in on 1000 page pdf's. And perhaps you wouldnt buy it because its small, but thats exactluy why i bought it and not the Ipad!

The Galaxy Tab is terrible. What are you people thinking? Also good luck holding onto its value....

The screen on the iPad is 9.56"x7.4" = 70.7sq" and on the Galaxy it is 7.48"x4.74" =35.5sq" so the iPad has pretty much double the screen size.

Can I vote cold for it being the most overhyped overpriced bug ridden piece of crap ever? Try browsing the net on the thing, its well funny how rubbish it is. £289.99 is the price it should be and £249.99 for the 16gb.
#36
Im sure I read somewhere that google have publicly stated that there current android software shouldn't be used on tablets! Which surely makes buying this a massive waste of time?!

Not forgetting 4% Quidco with Tesco Direct!

That brings the price down to £450.24 as well as 938 Clubcard points.
