Hmm on paper its much much much better than an iPad - but thats it, its not an iPad :/

Good price, but IMO you'd have to be a real Android die hard neck beard to buy this over an iPad with double the screen size.

Android is not ready for tablets, and there's pretty much no apps designed for the form factor yet.

I saw an Archos 101 over the weekend on display in Heathrow and it was a beautiful bit of kit. I'd rather have that than this, especially as the airport price was £229 (although of course they didn't have any in stock.)

I am torn between a iPad and this Samsung tab. I have played with both for a while in the shops. I agree the iPad is better. The graphics, how much smoother things run, even the same apps. iPad is brighter. The app store bigger and better (that's my main desire is the list of games and apps). Even down to the book store where the turning pages animation is quality..... But with the iPad 2 coming 1st qtr next year ish my reason is to maybe get this Samsung.
Crazy and contradicting myself, but my reason is that not getting a iPad will want me to trade this in to get the iPad 2 next year. This is newer and a update won't come as quick. Also Samsung offering 200 pounds free package, you can kit this with amazing items from the get go.
Decision, decisions.lol but voted hot for the best price if this is what you want.
Be weary if buying, does not include headphones, although it has a normal aux jack.

Whenever some tells me not to vote cold I'm more tempted to, regardless of the item or price.

Anyone else the same?

No, but i will vote how i see fit, and the cheapest price does not always equal a bargain.

Evaluating one of these for work, it is an excellent piece of kit, granted not an ipad but then the ipad wouldn't fit in my jacket pocket, won't let you map to external drives or drag and drop files for ease of use and simplicity.

Good price for a great bit of kit 3g, wifi and completely portable...
I have an iphone 4 which I like but it's no android device

Not interested in the Android Tab at all. I know the iPad 2 will be out next year but that could be in about 6 months. I'm thinking i might get the current generation iPad and then sell it to get the new one next year. Its Apple and highly desirable so unlikely to loose much money on it?

You're right. You're not the only idiot here.

It's quite simple really. OP is asking for your evaluation on the deal, not the product itself.

everyone's got their views on which product is better/worse, but that is for another forum.

No you're right, he asked to vote based on whether it is/isn't the cheapest around, which is also not the correct way to vote. There are many things to consider before something can be considered a bargain

Cold - it's just not a very good tablet. Nice hardware (although the screen is too small), but the software isn't ready yet and web surfing just isn't very responsive.

I've had one for 24 hours from Voda on test and it would have to be about £300 before I would stump up the cash for it. Sure, it's not as smooth or as sexy as my IPAD but it is useful in some respects; just if you can live with the awful battery life. I'm going to hold off until it bumps around the £300 to £350 mark.

BTW - spoke with a friend at Voda and they are having a really poor time trying to shift these so I'm hopeful about the price drop soon

This price is the best on the net that ive seen so far.

I've been looking at both the Samsung and iPad for the past month and watched the Samsung price drop nearly every week since launch. They over priced it at launch and when it his £399 I think more sales will follow.

Many reviews compare the Samsung with iPad and the iPad always winning apart from a handful of reviews where I would agree with the comments. The Samsung isnt in competition with iPad, its an alternative devices offering a different working and user experience.

Think if the Samsung as a BIG smart phone. The iPhone 4 is expensive when compaired to the Samsung and we wouldnt comment on how small the iPhone screen is.

I currently have access to the iPad and find that without Flash some sites including the Gadget Show cannot be viewed, why is a piece of kit designed to view the web limited in this fashion? The SGT now at £419 is far cheaper than the 3G iPad at £529 and the data packages are more reasonable as you can get free internet with voice call (Samsung will call). The cameras are a bonus as I visit clients and photo their houses for Architectural work along with presenting designs. The Samsung is an all in one unit, ok the screen size isnt the biggest but for something mobile I fits perfectly for its designed use.

I guess its each to their own and I will be buying the Samsung at the end of the week at a present to myself.

Of course they are. The Samsungs are way overpriced - compared to rough equivalents like the Archos 101 or the Vega - and that huge bundle of accessories they are throwing in at the moment is a sure sign they know they've pitched the price wrong. But they don't have much time to cut it before the Xmas market peaks and VAT goes up on 4 January.

It does a lot, but the Galaxy Tab just isn't very nice to use. Browsing the web is actually quite unresponsive, and loading flash pages takes ages. Bizarrely it takes longer than my HTC Desire does.

adding more to this thread, on engadget, they have posted images of a new LG device with a dual core processor (similar to apparently the RIM Playbook). Probably time to hold off a Tab/iPad...unless its for Xmas of course

Wait for Android 3.0 to come out. Thats optimised for tablets unlike 2.2.
#34
I have a Galaxy S (this but in a 4"phone) and I love android but I would never suggest anyone buy this. hold off for a few months and then there will be loads of very powerful devices out Blabkberry Playbook looks excellent along with the tegra powered Android 3.0 devices. Sure this is fine for browsing the web but I feel you will be really disappointed when the competition is released.

it's not a hen.

Funniest quote ever.

I keep hearing how the Android OS isn't yet ready as a proper tablet OS. We're talking about 3.0 or possibly even 4.0 until it's properly adapted to this style of computing.

Having said that this is an excellent price if you're in the marketing for a Tab.
#36
I'm really warming to the idea of a tablet for my daily commute. Got a Desire right now which is fantastic, but not so great for long term usage. Samsung tablet it very nicely made, and I do like the size, but the pricing is just wrong. If it drops to £350 then I think it will sell better, it is after all a 3G phone as well and a well spec smartphone is going to cost £400+ so it's actually quite good value when compared.

But seeing all the new tablets lined up for the new year with a proper version on Android I think it's best to wait another month or so.
#37
Good deal but I agree with the comment that says wait for Android 3 which will be optmised for tablets. Given the ipad's closed OS and non-support for flash, USB etc it is just too expensive..............
