I've been looking for a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5" wifi tablet in white but I found Expansys is taking preorders for the forthcoming titanium bronze model. The Tab S is apparently the best android tablet in its class, featuring a 10.5" Super ALOMED screen and octacore processing. This is around £70 less than RRP and the cheapest I've seen it.

I've been reading up on the tab s for a while and it gets great reviews most places (other than the Samsung software and fingerprint scanner)

What's is the titanium bronze edition, just a new colour?
#2
hot for price my only concern with this tablet is the brightness quoted in reviews as 276 candela (nexus 7 2013 is over 550 as a guide)

I almost bought it the other day until reading about the lower brightness than lcd average. That said, I do love AMOLED if it's bright enough

When is it released?

It was released a couple of weeks ago, goto your local pc world to view one, I bought the 8.9 inch version as I like a light weight tab

Pass. I'm waiting on the sheild tab. The SOC has been proved to weak for the resolution.

Can you elaborate? whats SOC?

"Performance is top-notch. The octa-core processor uses two quad-cores depending on what's being demanded of it, and it's backed by an impressive 3GB of RAM. Apps open in a trice and there didn't seem to be any sign of lag, even with a fistful of apps open and running." - Wired.co.uk review

Also, the HDX 8.9 is rocking the same resolution with no performance issues - despite the slower cpu.

is this not for sale at simply electronics for £310? although I've never used them so I don't know if they're legitimate or not
#11
Forget simply electronics, they sell grey imports, there for no official UK Samsung warranty
#12
Tempted by this. Does anyone know if I can use van type software to make it look like I'm in the UK on this tablet?

Vpn

I don't see why not. I use privateinternetaccess vpn and I'm spoofed to the Netherlands. No more blocked sites. I also use netflix US version.

I'm not much of a gamer and certainly not on a tablet, although the Shield does look to be a cut above the normal tablets for gaming. Also just available in 8 inch..

DO NOT use Simply Electronics . They take your money for items they don't have in stock and you wait and wait and wait .When you get pi$$ed off you have to ring a costly number to be ignored constantly. Check out Trust Pilot etc.

The o2 deal is still there but works a little more now as the tariff has just changed. However, it is the 4g version plus not a grey import.

I'm considering it. Works out something like 439 quid which is decent. Wonder how easy it is to unlock as I have an EE 4G sim from my Ipad.

Is this compatible with Netflix, Sky Go, Chromecast and XBMC does anyone know?

This won't get you past your own ISP's site blocks does it?

As soon as the price drops this will be hot. Tablets cannot cost this much. THE price guide is simple: 7"= £89, 8"=£109, 10"=£149 and that's what they realistically have to be. Simple. Don't care about the Screen (give me the best possible), SD card expansion is A MUST (unless there is 128GB built in).
Tablets are not PCs, NOT laptops... they are much more... disposable. So figure it out Samsung!

That's because it's the GPU that does the graphics. And the Adreno 330 in the HDX is more powerful than the Mali in this.

Just Wondering

Yeah but you need to take out a £35pm contract to get it at that price, which sort of works out a tad over £329.

You cancel the airtime contract without paying anything. You only pay the cost of the tablet.

Expanses, so beware you may not get an UK model.

I totally agree, not worth the hassle and loss of any meaningful warranty. It took 9 weeks to get my money back when it became clear the6 didn't have the phone, then I bought from amazon.co.uk for only 3-4% more but with their amazing cs.

Aside from the fact that its one of the ugliest tablets going, the design is just plain awful.

It also only comes in the exynos variant, meaning you're stuck with Samsung software for the most part. No AOSP ROMs will ever be stable on it.

Usually that wouldn't be too trivial, but with all of the crapware samsung loads onto their devices, these things slow down very regularly, especially at such high resolutions.

Good example is the TabPro 8.4 I got the other week. Stock Touchwiz the same as this, and it just couldn;t keep up at all. Snapdragon 800 is only slightly worse off than the new Exynos chip in this as well where raw performance is concerned. Threw CM11 on it though, and now it's the fastest tablet I've ever used. That includes the latest Apple tablets too. Plus I can scale the DPI so I'm not crippled by tiny text.
