£200 entertainment package - http://www.samsung.com/uk/galaxytab/

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is perfectly designed for computing and entertainment on the go. It's light and compact, easily fitting into your hand but still managing to pack in a wealth of features.

On looks alone the Samsung Galaxy Tab is an impressive tablet computer, featuring a totally flat and smooth 7” touchscreen. The screen enables you to flick, press and scroll your way through the different menus and applications with ease, while four touch sensitive buttons at the bottom of the tab (home, menu, back and search) let you perform basic functions in next to no time.

Both the front and the back of the Galaxy Tab feature cameras. The one on the back has a 3 megapixel resolution and features an LED flash for taking snaps in all types of lighting conditions. It can also be used to capture video footage at 30-frames per second, giving you video which looks smooth on both your tab's screen or on larger screens, which the Galaxy Tab can stream to in Full HD. The 1.3 megapixel camera on the front of the screen can be used for video chats with friends, family and work colleagues also using a Samsung Galaxy Tab.

On the sides of the Samsung Galaxy Tab you'll find a headphone jack, 30-pin charging and PC connection port, volume and power controls, SIM card storage and a microSD Card slot. The microSD slot expands the storage space available on your tab up to 64GB, giving you plenty of room to store a mixture of films, photos and music. This 16GB Samsung Galaxy Tab comes with a free 16GB SD Card, which a ctually upgrades the Tab to a 32GB version.

The tablet computer runs on Android 2.2, Google's latest version of their hugely popular operating system. This, combined with the Galaxy Tab's 1GHz processor, Wi-Fi connectivity and superfast HSDPA and HSUPA web browsing, make it a super-slick way to get hold of the latest news, play your favourite games and chat to friends online.
Switching between different screens and applications is a breeze, thanks to the five easy-to-navigate, fully customisable home screens, intuitive menus and easy to understand widgets. You can always bring your favourite applications to the surface of your tab, so they're never more than a couple of finger taps away.

Personalising your Galaxy Tab is the best way of getting the most out of it, and the Android Market is the place to go for the latest Android applications. Here you'll find apps to help you get around, to enhance your entertainment and help you pass the time on long commutes.

Of course, it's not just entertainment that the Samsung Galaxy Tab can be used for. It's also a useful business tool. Unlike some other tablet computers, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is capable of making and receiving telephone calls. You'll need to sign-up to a call plan to use the phone feature (and 3G internet), but if you're after a tablet computer and mobile phone combo this could be a worthwhile investment. Support for writing documents, sending emails and watching Flash videos are all on-board too, so you're never far away fro m your own personal office.

Was just about to post this deal. topcashback is 5% and extra 16gb card makes it the current best buy.
#2
Still hoping for £350 though tbh.
#3
Quidco is 10%!
#4
oooh 10%, never thought to check quidco as its normally no better than topcashback.
reaching for credit card.... must stop self.....

I've been wondering what to do about one of these since the Comet deal last week, this looks even better with the bigger memory. Thought there might be some better deals on in the sales, although the new year will be bringing more tablets onto the market. But in terms of build quality, this is tough to beat and I prefer the size/weight over the iPad.
#6
Thought these things were a bit gimmicky, until I tried one out last week. Even the typing function was good. Great bit of kit, even if does look like an overgrown Samsung Galaxy.
#7
still high price, i will wait for the Acer ones in few months time, better specs and price
#8
#9
any info about the acer ones?
#10
Looks good.... and you cant beat Samsung....

I would say hotter than an Ipad....

Decent price in comparison with others. Still think they are expensive, but if you are after one
#12
Samsung Galaxy Tab is way ahead of the iPad. For me, it has to be flash that wins me over.
#13
anybody know if you can put any sim in these.. was thinking of the using a giffgaff sim for the free internet...
#14
These will drop in price to around £300, £299.95 will be the ipad busting deal, that's the inside info from my mate who is a Samsung UkKrep so just hang on a bit!
#15
will hold out for ipad 2 with phone calls, facetime, flash and a camera ;)

If you mean flash as in Adobe Flash (I'm pretty sure that's what you mean cos you would've put flash after the camera if you meant an LED flash like the iPhone 4) then forget it. Apple has said that they won't be bring flash to iDevices

A plasticky, badly designed, underpowered iPad knockoff is never as good as the original. Stop using idiotic reasons to try and claim otherwise. The iPad is much better off without that wretched Flash plugin installed, as a result its much more secure and doesn't slow to a crawl like Flash does to desktop machines on a regular basis. If you're really desperate to use the thing, there is now a browser available for download on the iPad which has Flash enabled, rendering your point moot.

Google and their manufacturers are shameless in the way they constantly rip off Apple and their ideas. I can't believe Jobs hasn't hit these companies with lawsuits.

so ipad, or advent vega?!

I have the advent vega and if you after full browsing and watching movies and occasional games at a cheap price, than this is ideal. Don't forget to use Modaco custom add on for much better speed and to add flash!
However I can tell you side by side IPad screen is so much better then Vega, but price wise it almost double.

If money is no concern I would go for IPad myself, it feels a much better finished product.

Yes because the tablet computer was first designed and released by Apple. Same as the mp3 player.

The galaxy tab is good, but the the Market place for it is nothing compared to what iPad can offer.

There are loads of really decent bits of software and games out for it and loads more to come. I also find the screen the perfct size. I have my htc desire to carry in my pocket but bring the iPad out on long train rides and such. It also saved me dragging my laptop round with me whilst away a few days ago

underpowered

They share essentially the same processor, so not sure how you can say they're underpowered.

Very good device, perfect for my needs; and don't make me look like an Apple/Mac ****.

Inside info? lol these sort of things are people may spit out over a beer but I would not take this hearsay as any real evidence

Epic fail.

The tablet and PMP was not invented by Apple.

Do you think Apple's ideas are entirely fresh? Do you think that they aren't grateful for their competitors?

Let's put this into perspective. Steve jobs treats Microsoft like crap and say their software is rubbish but .....

1) Windows is the most popular paid OS in the world.
2) Microsoft bailed out Apple.

And Jobs seems to forget how to treat people nicely.

At least Android is unlocked and you don't need to jailbreak to reach the full potential of the item.

You fail.

You are basically saying the iPad can do this, could do that etc. But that requires additional effort and is essentially an add-on.

That's like me saying my psp can play Xbox 360 games, if it had a bigger battery and a.better processor and had all these addons and blah blah blah.... etc. Etc.

Galaxy tab and Android tablets can do it from the start... for free.

Of course I do. I'm just pointing it out so that some people aren't stupid enough to believe it.
That is all. :)

I have an iPad posting on and advent vega for me the vega is better it's a bit smaller so more practical for carrying around it also has flash hdmi USB expandable memory live wallpapers plus it's an open platform so plays any file format and can be interfaced with without using a specific client. iPad is nice and solid and looks more expensive but it's less technically capable it's really been crippled and gimped by apple as all their products. The hardware is impressive but severely restricted even when jailbreak by apples invasive walled garden approach.
#38
On a side note is the galaxy 150 better than a vega 170 for basic iPad I don't think so owning a vega and iPad and having had a good play with the galaxy.

Forget using a tablet as a phone or camera as well what a waste of time anyone buying one of these almost certainly has a decent smartphone I have an iPhone and android handset !

Spot on. The ipad will either be the main tablet by far (really hope not due to all the points you have mentioned) or will slowly fade away....

I tried a Galaxy and was'nt that impressed ; movement around the screen for me did'nt seem fast or smooth.... it was in Tescos and so maybe was'nt set-up correctly or had poorly configured software....

To the people asking about using GiffGaff, yes you can just pop in the sim (on European models) as the Tab has Normal Call features so can be used (Ie with the ipad you can not as Ipad does not have Normal Phone features I do really like this machine and GiffGaff Unlimited Internet really frees it up and has been working great for me (there is also a GiffGaff Apn app which does the settings quickly for you.

( Edited From earlier deal)...

Some tips

I commute about 2 hours a day and rather than reading / paying for Vince Cable's Nemesis's's's newspapers something like this is quite wonderful. The two outstanding features for me with the Tab are the excellant "kindle" app (much better with a bigger screen than on the iphone) and the superb "Iplayer" for which the Galaxy Tab is one of the few devices with which you can download say "Q.I." straight to it in a few seconds and watch at your leisure. I first found this function with my Nokia 5800 which I loved, but the battery would only give approx 2 hours of video before dying. I have tested the Tab on video and can watch for 8+ hours (Airplane mode, headphones, etc) on a really nice 7 inch screen. I am always surprised that portable devices with this function do not seem to make a big thing about it, but for me it helped me decide to get the Tab, which to me has the Best use of the Iplayer around.

Also I can view 4od directly on the Tab due to flash (perfect on wifi, 3g seems to be "choppy"" and if anyone is into TvCatchup after trying a few things (mobile site, desktop site, iphone site, googling around it seemed it was not possible) I finally tried the Ipad site which then linked me on to a "Galaxy Beta" site, where I found approx half the channels were working very well, half were not watchable but looks like it will be fully ready soon.

Another bonus on video playback is I found I could easily drag and drop my various types of files on to it and they worked great, with out conversion (it did offer to convert, but no need to). I think its much more flexible than ipad for data transfer.

Also for new purchasers there is a new firmware update for the machine, dunno what it does (maybe a little bit smoother), was out last week i think. You have to use the Kies software to install (Kies is awful other wise) from the Samsung website.

I would also say since the 2.2 update this is one smooth machine, and yep its very pricey, and I was going to wait till it came down to about £350, but now very glad I have it. Also lucky I got mine when I did, because HMV have put their price back to £499 and I think I got one of the last ones in Oxford Street (Ox Circus were sold out, but got one in Bond Street).

........................

I would say when I tried one out a few weeks ago in the O2 shop, I liked it, but was not "that" impressed, seemed a bit jerky and colour seemed a bit over saturated / intense. I do think the in store demo models on the high street would have been pre-froyo update as there is a clear difference. The video is bright and clear to me, but I would say a real Video-phile may claim the "Yellows are too yellow, reds too reds" etc. (I find the demo trailer of "Clash of The Titans" is the best to use for a check as it shows natural settings and goes from dark to light scenes... the Hangover trailer seems to be in the wrong aspect ratio, the transformer is a bit too yellow / orange, which is odd. The trailers are not great demos to me

You could check the update status in Settings in a store and if it is Froyo and you are still not impressed then maybe it aint good enough for you... (theres also quite a few video settings to change if it helps, black / white levels, saturation and brightness, which also is available as a video plays (and more settings I think, which I have not really tinkered with).

My own files that I copied over played really well and like I mentioned earlier it seems the tab is open to more formats than other phones / tablets (I did not convert anything, just drag and dropped

I have just tried that Vplayer (Beta) and it ran fine, offering lots of options, so seems fine.

Also iplayer on this though great and useful to me, downloaded files are very much SD quality, more than good enough for me, though not as "Sharp" as the iphone streaming iplayer (but they are Downloads!)

4od steaming was very very good, like watching a mini HD tv (well almost)

I have a question if anyone can help, is there a way to stop the 4 buttons at the bottom from coming on EVERY time you do something. Not a great problem, and I can see how the need to flash up, but when reading an ebook and it flashes every time you turn a page well it kind out stops the flow, when tucked up in bed with the lights out. I have just picked up a case, and will probably use a small piece of card which I can snugly fit over the buttons when reading, but if there is a way of stopping the buttons lighting up do let me know,

ta

Edit - just been trying out the settings, found if you set Saturation to Minimum you get a nicer video experience (and that includes the demo trailers)

...............................

(Just pasted here as may be helpful to some folk, and I think this is a Very Good deal if the Cash Back comes through.)
