SAMSUNG GT-P1000 Galaxy Tab - 16GB £499
web exclusive price - £529.99 in-store!

Samsung's GT-P1000 Galaxy Tab is a versatile portable device that looks very much like a glimpse into the future of internet tablets.

This media player's 7-inch touch screen is perfectly fit for watching film or online content.

The built-in flash memory is 16GB in size, and you can expand it by up to 32GB thanks to the microSD card slot. These are massive storage capacities for a device that is only 12 millimetres thick!

But the Samsung GT-P1000 Galaxy Tab is also a phone. It features 2G and 3G connectivity, and is equipped with a 3MP front-facing camera. It is of course also equipped with a headphones socket in case you need some privacy, and Bluetooth headsets will work too.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab runs the Android operating system. That means you'll get access to thousands of free applications. And you can run several applications at once with the Galaxy, thanks to its support for multitasking. The limits to what the Galaxy can do for you are just not in sight!

In fact, take a close look at the Samsung GT-P1000 Galaxy Tab and you will see it is a serious contender for another, allegedly revolutionary, media tablet!

Its just too expensive for what it does just like the ipad; though I appreciate this tablet is more open than an ipad....

you could enter code "35POUND" and get £35 discount on all orders above £499 (including this one) + 2.5% Quidco as well. This makes it £452. :-) Now it looks better to me.

But it has a 2G and 3G radio. The 32GB iPad version with the cellular connectivity is what, £600? And the apps cost a fortune.

Edit: Although £500 is a lot of money, and I can't say that it's compelling. £300 would be a hot deal.

Standard price for this not really a deal

GET AN IPAD!
Android is RUBBISH for tablets. And I say that having developed apps for android and thinking that apple is always overpriced, but this tablet is both rubbish and overpriced.
I've used one for some time already and it's the same as an over-sized android phone.
Let's see what android 3 does for tablets... but for now, avoid this!

Even better, get an ipad 32gb for less: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/apple-32gb-ipad-5-discount-online-o/792718

Isn't IPad just an oversized iphone 4?

This is the 16GB version for £499 - I thought the 32GB version had an RRP of £529, so would it not be more sensible to buy the latter (twice the internal memory for an extra £30?)

I popped into a few phone shops at the weekend and found that only phones4u and Currys were worth talking to about a Galaxy Tab.
With Phones4U, there were various contract deals that got the cost of the device down to £250 or £200 and you also got a phone - which you could sell to get the device outlay down to about £100ish.
Currys was a bit confusing - the Tabs were not even out on display and little was known by the Currys staff, but, the manager seemed to be saying that it was possible to take out a Three mifi contract (memory fuzzy, but around £35pm) and the device cost would be zero - I can't find anything on the web to support this and I think that there may be some misunderstanding - but if it is genuine, then might be a good deal. You could Skype though the mifi and stick a cheap PAYG sim in the Tab for when mobile internet coverage was poor.
Please can people stop comparing the iPad with the Tab? The Tab suits my needs precisely and the iPad does not - so it would pointless in my comparing them, or even considering an iPad for what I need - which is mainly practical portability.

I have ordered the Tab from currys using the 35 pound off code and quidco (already tracked) bringing it down to £450. I played with it in pc world and found it v responsive. The screen had good viewing angles, contrary to a few reviews (some say good, some say ok, I found it good!) and ran the browser quite quickly with no issues. The 3d games bundled also ran v smoothly indeed. I also put a 3000 page PDF on their to test how it handled it and it had no issues. I skipped to pages which were 1000 apart and whilst it was not instantaneous, it certainly wasnt a huge lag and zooming in and out was v good. I need it for viewing docs, pdfs, the net, a phone and messing around with a few games perhaps, and it suits me down to the T.
