Product Description

The Samsung Spinpoint F3 operates at 7200RPM and with this offering being 1TB of data storage capacity using just two 500GB per platter disks it offers suberb speeds. As well as meeting datacentre requirements for addition storage to meet rising demand and increasing performance needs, the new drives also deliver high-performance with lower power for desktop computers and servers.
The Samsung Spinpoint drive offers a superior combination of density, recording quality and reliability. It also features Samsung's industry-leading NoiseGuard and SilentSeek technologies to eliminate acoustic noise. Servers, high-end desktops, RAID systems and DVRs are among the applications well suited to the Spinpoint drive.

Would rather use Ebuyer and not get a dodgy import.

Anyway good price for one of the fastest drives out.

Dodgy import from Scan? Scan are top class, no dodgy imports there!

Steer clear of scan, warranty issues are already well-documented.

Ebuyer drives can be imports as well (not saying these ones are but if it says warranty is with ebuyer then they are imports

I know co's I got 3 a while ago when 1tbs were £116-£119 for F1 Spinpoint

Can I ask someone with more technical know-how than myself :? if they know how to connect a second drive, my Dell has a slot for another, and there is a SATA power cable ready to plug in, but there does't seem to be a SATA data cable, how would I connect the SATA drive, i.e. is there a special splitter type cable?

Thanks in advance for any help! :)

Even if they are imports, they are still warranteed direct with Scan.

Have you read the comments regarding the poor hard drive packaging from Ebuyer ?

Isnt he pointb that ebuyer use less imports or if they cover them then they replace? If scan have the responsibility for imports, then they apply this newish warranty which means they cna just give you £ what they think its worth.

SATA is point-to-point connection, you just need another sata cable which you plug into a free socket on motherboard - your mb for 99.9% has more than one SATA port - however, it is Dell, so you never know :P.

Ok I have asked scan directly.

No, you can not split a SATA port/cable.

Check your motherboard for ports either like this (blue ones) or like this (orange ones). Yours may be different colours.
If you don't have any spare and you have an empty PCI slot you could get a PCI SATA card to add more SATA ports.

I bought a HD103SJ from Scan less than 3 weeks ago and it was a grey market import drive and "out of service area" on the Samsung site.

I bought my HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB form Ebuyer just after Christmas and this is what the warranty checker brings up for me...
Heat added though for the price.

I had problem with scan and hard drives before, they havent got a very good customer service tbh. I dont like buying from them now, they maybe cheap but is it really worth the hassle!

I'm tempted to get 2 of these and stick them in AID-0.

Do you know the chipset you have? Or what motherboard you have?
If the answer is No, download speccy - http://www.piriform.com/speccy
and report back and I or someone else Im' sure will help you find out.

If it turns out your motherboard only has SATA1 dont worry, as SATA2 hard drives are fully backwards compatible so it will just run at normal SATA1 speeds. Hope that all makes sense?
