The Samsung Spinpoint F3 operates at 7200RPM and with this offering being 1TB of data storage capacity using just two 500GB per platter disks it offers suberb speeds.

As advertised the other day by another member but this time the price has dropped and they have removed the "HDDSAVER" promotion code to compensate for the price-drop.

Well as things stand i ordered this morning when the drives were £43.98 but they have just gone up to £44.98, the thing is the "HDDSAVER" code is still working, i ordered this morning via paypal and i paid £36 per drive now it is £36.99 + delivery = £40.58 delivered via cheapest option.

Free delivery if 2 or more ordered = £36.99 each delivered.

****UPDATED*** THANKS TO USER DEALS2009 FOR INFO - PRICE NOW CHEAPER AT £35 PER DRIVE IF MORE THAN ONE PURCHASED.

if people expire things they should have to say why

It's angry because you are wasting its potential in the Humax :p

90cm lockable are fine. Even 50cm are fine. Should be less than £2 a cable easily.

You could try switching it to "quite" mode using a Samsung utility:
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/support/downloads/support_in_es.html
You will need to temporarily install it in a pc.
Download the CD version of the Samsung ES tool and create a bootable cd.
Boot the PC from the cd and select the option: AAM Mode : Automatic Acoustic Management Mode
There are then 3 options: Fast, Medium and Quiet.

I have been using one for about a year with no problems.

My experience is the contrary...They are quite quite (not silent). However, the buzzing, from experience, usually comes from either wrong sized screws, not tight enough or you haven't fixed it at all 4 points...I used to get buzzing from drives when I only put two screws in one side of the drive and relied on the rail to hold the drive up only on the other side. Suffice to say, the drive pivoted around the two screws vibrating against the rail...hence the noise...

Excellent deal - just ordered two for £69.99 including delivery - heat added.

If anyone wants to reduce the noise of their hard drive, you don't have to install anything, just google a free software called: WinAAM. Runs directly without having to install or burn anything. Although i have have a Samsung F2 1.5tb and didn't notice it being any louder than my other drives, albeit the F3 is faster. As mentioned by Karem, the buzzing most likely is from not being seated properly. I had a similar problem with my old PC, but that was more due to the inside of the case degrading over time so metal bits rattled very easily (gone with my new Antec case).

It allows you to select the quiet/loud profile on all the new hard drives. I have my Samsung, Seagate and Hitachi on silent and didn't notice any kind of major speed reductions when transferring large amount of files/cloning etc, in fact, being that they're Sata, it was super fast compared to my 1 single old 320gb IDE drive :D

very tempted to a couple of these.

heat added
got myself 2 of these for my Freenas (RAID 1)

expired!

@daves_deals
set it to quiet AND saved setting
@karemlore fully fixed using original mountings and screws - well fitted (PC engineer!)
still vibrating
now fitting felt pads to bottom of humax to absorb some of the sound - its not bad its just louder than the original seagate, and off putting at quiet bits.

what he said. The problem I have with mine is that I can't seem to update the firmware which apparantly fixes some issues with SB850 chipsets. Will try again on an ICH10 but if anyone has had luck updating the fw, do let us know :)
