Ive got this - it has an optical in, making it about the cheapest decent 5.1 amp for an xbox 360. It also has a usb interface, allowing divx movies to be streamed off a USB device.
I paid around the same price a few months back.

Dave.

Here is a massive forum thread on AV forums dedicated to it

Great system - I have the tallboy version..

The USB interface is great especially as the drives are so cheap now

:-D so samsung is not a branded product, you've got to be kidding me m8!! I've had a panasonic system and also heard a sony system, and im sorry to say this samsung by far exceeds the both of them without a doubt... Before you make ridiculous comments, go and read the reviews of these products compared to the brands you've mentioned. I think you'll find Samsung do not flood the market, if they were so **** people wouldn't buy them. Keep your useless comments to urself and stop wasting peoples time!!

HT-TX35R is the same system just in a tallboy version. The reviews speak for themselves, dont be put off. I have the HT-TX35R and am more than happy, replacing my 6 month old Panasonic system which the samsung far outweighs!!

I was very lucky to get one of these for £125 from a Misco deal a few months ago when looking for a 5.1 system to go with my Samsung Plasma. Most descriptions hardly mention that it has a FM tuner built in too, a real bonus for me as i have now got rid of my music centre and this does everything much better.

Lol. Typically bad judgment to think the "audio" manufacturers as always better. Quoting What Hif-Fi magazine do you mean:

Panasonic SC-PT850 for £270 - This system is OK but rivals offer more. 3/5
Sony DAV-DZ830 for £330 - Stylish but average sound. 3/5
JVC EX-P1 for £300 - Different twist on a micro system. 3/5

The Samsung is 4/5, described as, A worthwhile small room system but lacking punch. For £149 you can't complain though given the above cost double.

One of the more expensive Samsung systems actually won Best Home Cinema System £750-£1500 in 2007.

Don'f forget Dixons do a price match on line with an other online retailer. I got them to match the price of this at tribaluk.com a few months ago at £130 delivered.

Pretty good system, one word of caution though. It suffers from lip sync issues quite a bit when playing copied DVD's, even when played through HDMI and using a sammy LCD TV.

Voted HOT!

I bought one of these about 4 months ago also from Dixons.

It's a great Home Cinema System just wish i'd got it at this price.

No issues with a black screen, its a great unit for the money, I picked this up last year, it links up well with my samsung 42hdx plasma, only is the issue with lip sync as mentioned earlier on this thread, doesnt always happen just occasionally.
I got it sub £130 but have not seen it at that price for while.

Definately reccommended.

Can you connect a ps3 to this system??

Does the tall boy version (HT-TX35R) have the optical in?

It only mentions scart and hdmi?

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

I got myself one of these to go with my Samsung 1080p LCD, and it does not do HD upscaling. It shows up as doing 576p, which could be considered 'Enhanced Definition', I suppose, but it's a long way short of even the lower resolution HDTV.

The interface for playing files from USB is really clunky too. I wish I'd not bothered and just found a separate amp/speakers for my existing (Sharp) upscaling DVD player.

Tall boy (35) version has all the same connections as the non tall (30), including optical in.

if you bothered to read the manual or looked at the remote then you would see there is a button to change it to 720p or 1080i mode...

There isn't a link. Pop into WH Smiths and have a look in the back of What Hifi.

Am at work, can't remember the model number. I'll post it when I get home if I remember to.

Mine was dispatched on Monday, will be here tomorrow, mainly using it for the Xbox! Thanks to the OP. Used quidco and egg cashback for a few quid off as well.

Had a sony davs system before this Samsnung and my god, this is 100 x better.

Just need to get the wireless adapter now.

Upscaled DVD's look fab and the sound is crisp and loud. Great for watching Casino Royale Bluray on PS3.

I ordered this on Friday  I later checked on Hotdeals and this was posted - I can confirm the deal works as mine arrived yesterday - there is no nned to buy LCD to qualify for the discount. Just use the code and enjoy :-D

Set up last night and found the display indicating ''fan check'' looked at back of unit and notice the fas assemble / housing has been crushed hence stopping the fan from running. Probable some muppet in the factory and its passed QA checks - Not happy will be on the phone to Dixons for a replacement ASAP ttoday.
The sound when it worked as awesome and the unit looks great with my piano black lcd tv / stand.

code still working for anyone interested
