SAMSUNG HT-Z220 Home Cinema System is much better the the Z120 model that was posted on hotukdeals for £99.99 a day or two ago.

It's 850 Watts of power.

The HT-Z220 can read DVDs, as well as videos in DivX format and MP3 and WMA tracks. It has a USB Host socket so you can hook up a number of multimedia peripherals such as your digital camera, external hard drive or MP3 player.

The HT-Z220 is compatible with the SWA-4000 wireless connection kit (not included) meaning you can dispense with all the unsightly cables that come with Home Cinema installation.

Which? Review:

The Samsung HT-Z220 is a decent-scoring 5.1 system with good sound quality in both stereo and surround-sound modes. It also has good picture quality, is easy to set up and use and has an average-scoring tuner.

This grey system has bookshelf speakers which can be wall mounted. The front speakers are rectangular and sit up on their short end, while the rear speakers are square and can be used wirelessly. Its standby power consumption is 0.6 watts.

It has good sound quality in both stereo and surround modes, and the surround-sound effect is good. This system lacks an active subwoofer, so expect fewer lower frequency sounds and less bass than with other systems.

The HT-Z220’s supplied tuner manages an average score. It has an FM band with 15 presets and RDS (Radio Data System), which supplies additional information for display, such as the name of a station. There is a USB slot, so you can play MP3 tracks direct from a USB memory stick. Our experts found this to be something of a pain, though, as you cannot navigate your music while it’s playing.

A DVD player is supplied, and this Samsung system has good picture quality, but there are no thumbnails displayed in Jpeg mode. And it is worth noting that when it is up and running there is quite a lot of noise from the fan and drive.

It has a Scart-RGB output, but no component output and no headphone output. There is no auxiliary front input, but a digital input means you can feed a surround-sound signal into your amplifier from a source other than the supplied DVD player – a Sky+ box, for example.

This system is easy enough to set up and to use. There are coloured sockets, but cables could be longer – the front speaker cables measure 3 metres, and the rear ones measure 7 metres. Our experts found the skip function slow, but the remote control is good – well laid out with good tactile feedback from the buttons.

Pros: Good stereo and good surround sound, good picture quality, easy to set up and use, wireless rear speakers

Cons: Short speaker cables, not ideal for MP3 playback
