Samsung htx30r home cinema system - cheapest I have seen elsewhere is £150. Includes a DVD player with HDMI out with 5.1 surround speakers and an optical in, allowing you to plug in external sources such as an XBox 360/ps3 etc.

Funny thnig is the site has it named as a HTX30RAB (which does not exist as far as I can tell), and the specs listed do not quite match those of the htx30, but I took a chance and ordered it and much to my relief found it is the HTX30R.

Came in a couple of days.

big AV forums thread here...

Lmao very interesting but not really helpful! :o

I have got one of these and it is excellent. It also has a built in tuner. Great paired up with my Samsung 50" plasma and can share the same remote control.

I am looking for a speaker system/cinema system that works well with Bravia TV's that does not need wiring of rear speakers or wireless. Anyone know of a good system that uses bouncing of walls for surround sound?

Sound quality is excellent, and it really looks and feels a lot more expensive than it is. Only downside is that it has not got more inputs (2 optical would have been nice).

where can i get the wireless thingy from ?

this is a good system i got it from tribal a few weeks ago came nice and quick and have had a few teething problems with syncing it but there now. it has usb too so i can watch downloaded films with out burning them.

nice price and the inclusion of optical input is a very good thing .. just bought a hd-dvd player .. was looking for a cheap way to get the sound connected to it ... and this could be it.. a spare dvd player is handy as well lol ( got 3 in one room ) .

only 1 optical input is a big let down (my PS3 / TV both have optical output).

why would u need an optical output on a tv  unless u got sky-hd then it wont do proper surround... just use the phono connections

You'll be very lucky (or VERY poor) if you find a home cinema system with TWO optical inputs. What you need to do is get an optical splitter and run it in reverse so you can combine the two inputs - that is what I am planning to do when I buy my Samsung HTX35, which is similar to this system but has tower speakers.
This is still a fantastic price for this bit of kit though.

sorry about that it would help if i say more about it wouldn't it:oops: only had the tv ect for 2 weeks so not really tried it tbh,not that impressed with it up to now the speakers seem very quite to me but that maybe down to my setup.I should really sit down and have a mess with it and see what it's really like, others on the post seem to rate up so it can't be that bad

I was looking at this and want to ask one question to the people about optical inputs and the optical out from the TV. I've never done this myself but I was thinking about buying this for my parents.

Now, if you have a TV with optical output doesn't that mean that you just put all your audio into the TV and then use an optical cable from the TV to feed this surround sound unit. The TV would then switch between your SKY and PS3 depending on which one you where watching?

Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick, but I thought that was the whole point of TVs having optical out, they act as your audio switcher? Or do they only feed the audio from their internal tuner?

I purchased one of these from tribal when it was originally posted and here's my 2 cents.

The volume is loud and crisp. My neighbour knocked on the door a fair few times before I heard him. He said that it sounded great but he couldn't concentrate on Eastenders. Oops.

During the Bourne Supremecy, I left to answer the door just to realise that it was on the film. The surround is spot on.

The optical splitter works a treat as I now have the 360 and PS3 hooked up. Casino Royale on Blu-ray..... WOW.

I hook up my MP3 and set sound format to Matrix and the music is, again, crisp and loud.

I can't recomend enough.

I was also going to invest in the sw3000 (I think it's called) wireless adaptor but then found it as easy to feed under the floorboards

I know this isn't a technical review but this is the best all in one I've had.... and I've had a few.

I hooked up My Sony PS3 to a Sony surround system and the quality is easily on par with far more expensive specialist systems. I would imagine the Samsung would be good but they aren't really known for audio.

Has anyone noticed any sound lag when using the optical input on this?
#21
Um, no.

From my experience it is almost certain that the TV output will only be the tv tuner sound. Even if the tv could output the sound of external sources then they would not be in digital (dolby digital etc.) as you are only feeding the sound via scart etc.

Not tried this with optical, but for the stereo outputs on the back of my samsung R88 TV it does exactly this - the stereo output connector is just a copy of the stereo feed from the selected input. It is even unnaffected by the volume of the TV (which is a good thing!)

As fot the sync issue, I read on the forums that there is sometimes an issue when connecting the R88 to the HTX30R via optical but not when connecting other devices.

I wasn't thinking SCART which is analogue audio, I was thinking HDMI to get the signal from the PS3 / SKY HD box into the TV. HDMI carries digital audio so I was hoping the TV would send out this digital signal on its audio output exactly the same as how it receives it.

I did a quick search last night and found one guy who said he got this setup working from a PS3 after setting the HDMI options on the PS3 correctly.

About six months ago, I was looking for one of these. The price at the time was about £200. but I managed to find a kelkoo link to a page on Dixons where it was going for £129. The regular Dixons page was the standard price, but linking through Kelkoo had it cheaper. I was so close to buying one and posting about it on here, but I hesitated and Dixons must have found it and fixed it. Another chance missed.

I don't have a need for it now, having bought something else instead, but I've gazed longingly at it in stores and I can confirm that it will go really well with those shiney black Samsung TVs that Dixons were selling cheap earlier this year, and the price on Dixons is still £180.

Good deal, voted hot.

Anyone know where i can get one of these optical splitters from? Ideally i could do with some sort of switch as i have my sky+ 360 and ps3 and i would like to plug all of them into the one optical input.

Can't comment on how the sound quality compare, but the samsung includes a DivX DVD player, and can also read DIVx movies from a USB connected hard drive or memory stick.

Im fairly sure it si the same - the HTx30R on Tribal was also called Htx30RAB and turned out to be the HTx30R

D'Oh... Must have been taken off the website today - looked at the site yesterday and it was on there, but not today. And I wanted one, too. :(
#35
Does anyone have any idea of the difference between the HTX30R and the HTX30?

Amazon have the HTX30 here.
#36
They are the same thing.

It also has an FM Tuner which was a very nice surprise as it was not mentioned on the Tribal listing. I now stream music it to it from my laptop using an FM transmitter.

I asked the same in Comet, according to the lad I spoke to, plug your Toslink cable in the back of the TV, then and into the home cinema, and you'll have 5.1 surround sound from the PS3/xbox 360 / HD-dvd player via the TV ???

Does this sound correct ???
