Good deal, the way phone contracts are at the minute.

Now I have to decide whether to go for this while its available (12 months free) or wait till the current one ends in 2 months. Can't be guaranteed of a 12 month deal nowadays.

Seems like a lot of bother for a poor phone and a very poor tariff

Most cashback offers get a chillin' at first... if it's a worthwhile offer it'll warm up a bit later on.

The phone costs around £30-£40, the tariff is awful, the risk of not getting the cashback makes this an awful deal in my opinion.

Why would there be a risk of not getting the cashback? Surely if you are meticulous about sending in the correct bills at the right times they have no reason not to pay it? Is this not right? I am at the end of my current contract and am looking for a new cashback deal. I use my mobile very little, but if I can pay nothing for even that little bit, then that is great news. 100 mins and 50 texts a month would be plenty for me.
Can anyone elaborate as to why cashback might not be paid? Thanks.. :)

Cashbacks are risky for many reasons, not everyone is as organised as you or I, cashbacks can get mysteriously lost in the post or the company system, company goes bust.

Cashbacks are fine to certain extent, but for a much better phone

That last part is absolute rubbish IMO. Many people don't really care about the handset they have (within reason) so any phones within last couple of years will do. Also many people who don't care about lastest phones stay on contracts similar to this without even bothering to upgrade their phones. So if you are already paying £25/£40 pcm then there is no risk at all in going for a cashback deal as even if the worst happens and you don't get any cashback you are no worse off than on your current deal.

If you are going to get a cashback deal then this is probably as good as it gets for the following reasons;

Phones 4 U is a large company unlikely to go bust

You get 60 days to send of your bill

Cashback claims are straight forward

The forms they send tell you what bill to send and when to send it

Cheques are sent very quick - usually in approx two weeks
I've been looking for a new deal after successfully doing cashbacks for about 5 years so heat and rep added - which might even take it back to positive

Thanks for the replies. I'm fairly new to cashback contracts. I've just finished my second Virgin 6-month cashback deal. Both times I got my cheques promptly, after I sent them in on time and at the right time. They were only £15 a month each. But the way I see this contract is, I am saving (putting by) £25 a month. That will be £300 saved over a year - although without interest. But to compensate I am not having to pay for any mobile calls or texts for a year. I'm not really bothered about the kind of phone I have, as long as it doesn't weigh a tonne and it's not bigger than my handbag!!
Think I might go for this.
Thanks op. Heat added.

I have done a cash back deal with Phones4u before
It is fair enougph to say that if your cashback ifails it will probabley be down to you

Phone4U are promt & do as they state; no real mad traps to catch you out
But be aware on my deal it was miss one claim void the rest
& ALWAYS!!! send forms recorded delivery !!!

With a large claim window & claim forms in plain English you should be OK:-D

Flog the handset or give it away as a gift, its an extra in a good hot deal
