Bear in mind when reading reviews that the phone at the time was almost double the cost and being compared to £300+ smartphones.

Very annoying flash-based Samsung page!

Carphonewarehouse inform me that ALL their phones are unlocked if that is any help.

I have taken to buying from them at their cheapest rate then putting my own sim back (using whatever sim I get with it for comps etc).

Nice to see that It now comes with some decent navigation software too (route 66) since none of the reviews mention it.

Hmm.. for around the same money the Nokia 5800 is miles better, and with proper free GPS software too..

Samsung GUI is never that good,

Nice deal but a bad phone. When typing with the qwerty keyboard it randomly switched views which got too much for me to bear.

should never be compared with a smartphone
as a phone its about as dumb as they come
however, it does do the basics really well - good quality sound from calls/music with a fantastic screen for viewing pics.
youtube usage is limited due to quality even though the video playback of own files is great.
gps is laughable though, route66 is subscription based iirc.
touch screen pretty decent but its not really any better than something like the tocco lite imo.
this is a good price for payg but i think some may get a better deal (final totals paid) with cashback via quidco/tcb and a contract

Am in Samsung haters club too. Nokia 5800 is miles better.

However here we vote hot/cold for the deal and not for the review. Am sure these kind of votes puts off a lot of people here to post a deal.

I would refrain from voting than voting cold.

It comes with the software but you need to purchase the licence for £70 a year, Youtube on this phone is also an absolute joke. I unfortunately have this phone.

I have had a Jet since oct 09 and my oh has had the 5800 for 12m.

It is a question of horses and courses.
Jet is built more solidly than 5800 and will survive in jeans, 5800 would not.
Jet seems to be better as a phone (signal, quality etc)
5800 virtual keyboard is slightly better.
Jet uses gee google maps - ok in uk on foot
5800 uses Nokia maps - ok in Europe in a car.
Jet has slightly better camera / video capture and playback
5800 seems to have a slightly better music app
Jet web browser seem a little better (the screen is better)
5800 's operating system seems a little nicer

We are both happy with what we have.
If your last phone was a nokia, 5800 probably better, if last phone was Samsung, Jet is probably better.

lots of not accurate comments here
this is a completely excellent phone. it has good sound quality, looks good, well built, lovely clear screen and very good phone quality.

web browsing is ok, not as good as winmo, android or iphone but what do you expect ? as good as BB

widgets cover: weather, stocks/currencies, facebook, myspace, youtube, google maps (with GPS integrated) and loads of others.

very active tweaking community (see darkforest web site)

yes, its not a smartphone. but its reliable, good looking and does 90% of what most people want

at this price its a steal!

I am a samsung lover, better build quality and much less software bugs then nokia

I would say the only advantage of hte Nokia 5800 over the Samsung Jet is the amount of s60 applications. Otherwise the Jet has the 5800 beat on every specification and IMHO build qualityand telephone audio quality.

most 'not accurate' comment is samsungs own comment of "smarter than a smart phone"
this is a basic function phone of high quality and price.
know exactly what you are getting before you buy it else you will almost certainly be dissapointed.

I don't disagree with you, but this is probably the best proprietary touch phone on the market, with a very cheap price.

i currently have the Samsung Omnia II, Genio slide (B5310) and Samsung Jet at the moment. I just think Samsung is destroying its opposition.
I used to be an HTC and nokia person. i will still be getting HTCs but don't see any competition to Samsung at the moment at the value end, in terms of quality, both software and hardware
