Maybe not the bargain of the century but I thought was a good deal

Samsung R519 15.6in Widescreen Laptop.

* Free 3-Year Collect & return Pre-Registered Warranty - direct from Samsung not Argos!
(Argos 3 year warranty is usually £174.99)

* Free 3-Year Pre-Registered AVG Internet Security.
(worth £99.98 = 39.99 for 1 year & £59.99 for 2 year)

* Free Samsung Pleomax Laptop Bag and mouse
(worth £39.99 - Must be added to order separately)

* Intel Pentium dual core T4300 processor. (Most if not all people including me seem to be getting T4400 upgrades free of charge so the argos spec may be wrong)
* 2.1GHz processor speed. ( if you get the T4400 youll get 2.2ghz speed)
* 4GB DDR2 RAM.
* 15.6in screen size.
* Resolution 1366 x 768 pixels.
* 250GB SATA hard drive.
* Multi format dual layer drive.
* Intel GMA X4500M graphics.
* Multi card reader.
* 3 USB ports.
* 0.3MP webcam.
* 802.11 b/g/n wireless enabled.
* Windows 7 Premium operating system installed.
* Weight 2.6kg.
* Glossy black finish.

508/2432 for the laptop
508/2975 for the bag/mouse

Available in store or delivery (1.5% quidco on delivery only but this is subject to delivery charge)

Be careful if comparing with other stores selling, as there are different processor and memory variations under the same laptop model number so make sure to compare like for like.

I also found the AVG suite wasn't preregistered, I had to download it from a specific AVG link and use the supplied registration key that was stuck on the outside of the box.

So taking £314.96 of free stuff included you could say this was a laptop for just £85.03 ;)

UPDATE:
Most if not all people including me seem to be getting T4400 upgrades free of charge so the argos spec may be wrong, if you get the T4400 youll get 2.2ghz speed.

I think its a good deal given the inclusion of a 3-year warranty.

Its ok but no hdmi so not for me!
#4
I think I'd like HDMI and USB3 on my next laptop, so holding off until they are standard.

whats the graphics card like on this?

and is it worth it for £399.. the processor any good? fast enough for multitaskin? surfing the web, listening to music and burning a cd??

and has anyone actually got one of these? whats the noise of the fan? any common faults?

Anyway marshall ward do a similar one for £429 http://www.marshallward.co.uk/156ins-laptop-r519-ja02uk---premium/671845484.prd?browseToken=%2fq%2fr519&prdToken=/p/MARSHALLWARD-prod1596770-sku2461390

That is a little lower specifications and no 3 years warranty (or bag or mouse). I think it's a cracking price!

It's the same model as this one which could be bought for £350 with a voucher code plus cashback:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/566472/samsung-15-6-laptop-dual-core-t4200

So extra £50 for 3-year warranty plus bag, mouse and AVG.

plus 1gb of ram more on this one but half the size hard drive but that one is no longer available, even if it was the price is now £429

It's a firewall plus anti-virus. Don't really need the firewall on Windows 7.

thank you :thumbsup:

battling on here 1280 x 900 any fewer pixels would be terrible.
#15
seems a very good deal especialy for these specs and 3 yr warrenty seems to make it worth it in my opinion at least you know youll get 3 yrs out of it should it develop some sort of fault
#16
Seems like a good deal with the warranty, and free bag
you can get mcafee of ebay for £6 a year so the AV is not that much of a selling point

No HDMI is a killer for me though;

good specs on this laptop for the same price (although cheaper unbranded chassis and no HDMI either)
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/179596

My friend went for this one in the end when looking this week as it has a HDMI;
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/190778

really like samsungs though, fantastic build quality

Or use Microsoft Essentials for free.

No HDMI is a killer for me though;

+1. Assuming it lasts long enough for second-hand sale, such future proofing is a must for me.

+1. Bought the R520 (has HDMI) for my daughter. Very pleased with it.

This machine is being offered on the governments home access scheme so it seems fairly popular.

Graphics card is a bit poor.
I'd personally go for this one if you want to play games...
http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/589763/acer-aspire-5536g-laptop-15-6-turio

Otherwise an ok deal if you're looking for a intel dual core laptop.

Integrated graphics, so OK for general applications, but not for games or video hungry applications.

The processor is good, better than an AMD or celeron which most laptops in this price range carry
4gb of ram is plenty for multitasking, surfing etc
Ive got one obviously, fan is silent - wouldnt know there was one at all

not found any faults but given a 3 year collect and return warranty Im not too worried if it develops one during that time ;)
#22
Good deal if you want a good solid laptop to surf and do work

no it will not play the latest games, no it will not do your washing up but for the spec and the 3 year warranty this is a very good deal

If the machine developed a fault, would Argos send it back to Samsung or (shock, horror) attempt to fix it themselves? I assume the former but it's not unheard of for companies offering extended warranties to have their own service departments. There's no fine print or mention if this is on site, rtb etc.

Windows 7 firewall isn't that much better than on XP or Vista. A dedicated Internet Security package will allow much more control over what information is transmitted from installed software.

My preference is Kaspersky Internet Security, but I've heard many positive reviews for AVG Internet Security.

is the 3 year warranty a samsung one or an argos one? could someone find out?

so its argos that issue the warranty or samsung?

I wouldnt think Argos will cover the 3 year waranty it will be Samsung, when you buy a laptop from Argos it says its not covered under their returns policy and you have to go to the manufacturer

I have this laptop, im the Op

The warranty is from samsung direct not argos
There is a phone number on the front of the box to call if a problem, it is a collect and return service, ie their courier collects it, it gets fixed and they return it to you,

I think your mistaking them for DSGi retail :). It's a samsung warranty Argos does not repair laptops it sells

I bought this a few weeks backs from a deal on here, it was £350 with a gig less ram and 250GB more HDD space. Even at a higher cost, granted you get a gig extra ram, i'd still rate this laptop. I thought to myself i'll use this for college, now it had preference over my desktop.

Only problem is the left/right button, it seems as if its sloping a little. But that might be my mind playing tricks on me or just my hulk hands xD.

Voted hot.

Edit - Mine only has a one year warranty, so three years is awesome.

This will meet your needs, Its not too heavy either and with a free bag you can carry it around etc., although its not a rucksack one.

3 year warranty is a plus too.

i love reading comments on laptops and desktops lol. its amazing how much this business is worth !!! i build computers as a hobby and the joke is you can build one for a max of 150 (and thats if you really want to spend money)and they sell for like 400 quid.
anyway what i was gonna say is avg is rubbish in my experience i have ended up with viruses where i have had to wipe the hd clean and reboot i would recommend nod !!!

mark up and profit is the name of the game for any business...:whistling:
Ive always used avast free and had no problems with this but will see how the free avg suite goes.

Its not compulsory to have it though, as you have to download it and you could always sell on the 3 year product key if you wanted before registering it...

Try selling a pc u make for 150 quid for 400...you'd be lucky to get 250 these days....unless you rip someone off...i think most will agree there is little to no profit in biulding pcs..the big boys Dell and like have priced most desktops so cheap its cheaper to buy direct than biuld. They get components for nothing unlike you and me who pay full price...unless you live in china...I cant see you making nearly 300% profit......

ok, lets see.

Cheap rubbish case with terrible power supply £20
DVD Drive - £15
Cheapest motherboard - £35
Cheapest processor - £30
Cheapest hard drive - £25
Cables - £5
Cheapestmemory (1gb) - £20

This would be the most appaling PC - if you're selling this for £400 you need taken outside and shot. So either you are using knock off parts or you are living in cloud cukoo land :thumbsup:

What do you advise.
Also what is the operating System you sell them with,Thanks

yes come on, I'm dying to see a build-spec for a lappy. Might even go for it myself if the specs and component prices are reasonable.
