excellent price, Apparently the 24fps is only simulated (or summut like that, full details are on AV forums) but hell this is a 40" 1080p LCD TV from a reputable company through a mainstreem dealr.

I'll vote hot on this one
#2
btw, uts Full HD not HD ready
#3
No 24p So Its **** Get The V3000

this is HD ready . not full HD

Please explain why this isn't FULL HD?... I assumed 1080p was FULL HD.

It is indeed Full HD, as the box clearly states
#6
This same tv is sitting at 384 degrees at the price of £589.

Voted hot :).

Oh and just to clarify this set is both "Full HD (1080P)" and "HD Ready (at least 720P with HDMI/DVI).

I've got a 37" Samsung that is full HD hooked up to my ps3. It is certainly the business. Beware that standard tv signals (ie freeview) can look a bit blocky on big full hd tv's, but you'll get that will any set.
#13
This is a good TV at a good price. A better set will always be round the corner so if you wait you will always be waiting.

I was lucky enough to get a 40v3000 for £670 a few months back and I love it.
#14
good price but not hot caus the sony v3000 is £566
#15

You should have said 'you will get that with any LCD set' - I get almost zero issue on SD broadcasts on my Plasma.
#17
You have a full hd plasma (1080p - 1920x1080px)?

I agree though you wouldn't get blocky picture on a plasma displaying standard definition...

I disagree ;) the last rental place had a 40" pioneer plasma on the wall (landlord left it there, crazy man). Picture was blocky up close on that too.

I should clarify, it's only a problem if you are close to the screen. From 2m away its fine.

Personally chaps, having done research til my eyes bleed. I would go for the sony V3000. I tested set this weekend and its excellent value if you can get the costo or teleworld deal found here on HDUK.

However, it all backfired on me and I spotted the new 6 Series Samsung and now I am holding off for a good price on that! It's 100 mhz was very good and usually I hate it.

this is much better than any low end sony

How can the Sony V3000 be a low end sony..... It was one of the best until the new W4000 series came out, it is also made in spain where the proper sony tvs are made not the rubbish polish rebadged ones from supermarkets.
#22
Does anyone have a confirmed height and width measurement for the Samsung LE40A556P ?

Looking at various sites the measurements seems to differ quite a bit.

Thanks
#23
Hot .. as is the Sony.

See reply post below..

As for better? Personally, i'm not overly technically minded, so I wouldn't wish to compare and judge unfairly, but from viewing them both in-store over the weekend, i'm happy enough to go for the Sony over the Samsung (although it didn't look too bad either, by any means!)

Never seen a 40" plasma...

The picture will be blocky on any large tv if you stand close to it, which is why they're not supposed to be viewed in that manner.

No, I don't, and the number of pixels doesn't matter to me - I used to have a 1080p lcd, and the plasma destroys it in terms of picture quality from all sources.
#32
Almost bought this the other day, now the price has dropped even lower, excellent. Might wait another week and see what happens.

This is now even lower with the 10% discount code (PPU458), at just £539.10:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/203614/10-off-everything/

It says Currys Staff Discount...so not sure if Currys would check!
#34
Thanks theyiddo! I just ordered because of that code! Nice one! I was just about to order with the 5% code, too! (Thinking even that was a bargain!)
#35
Tell me about it...I'm desperate to get a new lcd or plasma, but have to wait for a couple of weeks until I get my annual bonus...if I had the dosh, I'd get it myself right now!
#36
Has anyone else ordered this using the 10% code?

Yes, bought mine this morning - what a bargain!
#38
I've just purchased with the 10% staff discount and 3.5% quidco.

It says that the product is out of stock but should be delivered within 14 days. I am a little cautious though as I suspect that Currys are taking as many orders as possible and then will deliver to as many as they can, but will cancel the remaining orders.

Nothing ventured and all that!
#39
Thanks for this one. I paid the £599 and collected from store last night. Couldn't be bothered waiting on a delivery to get the lower price. Can't tear the wee fella away from his PS2 and PES2008 now.

It's a great replacement for my ageing 8 yr old 32" Sharp CRT. Just don't know what to do with the Sharp now. It still works fine but it is a brute of a size and won't really go anywhere else in my house. It does make a good coffee table for the front room though! ;)

had mine one day and its knackered when you switch it off its resetting all the settings when i set it up i set to home use but for some reason keeps going to store use everytime i switch it off and back on again.
