I am really looking for a LCD TV.
Can anyone comment about this TV? Is Sony better than Samsung or the other way round?
#7
Ideally you want the 6 series or higher.

Same panel, but having said that it doesn't mean same build quality and reliability. Example i give me a Ferrari engine for my car, i can still cock up the car.

I know someone that knows someone that works for samsung that says their tvs are unreliable

I have friends and relatives with Samsung 40" and 42". Superb picture, no problems to date and been in use for 1 year plus

as dixons is part of the chain, does currys match this price , so that i can buy in store?

That TV is worth all the money they're asking for :-)

I bought the 6 series as soon as it was released and now want to get this one :)

Cracking TV at a great price!

you cant touch a Sony as far as LCD is concerned.

I was in the market for a TV recently and went into an independent store in my town and told the guy, quite honestly, I was torn between this Samsung, a 42 Tosh, and the Sony 40S4000 - which incidintially his shop didnt sell - they DID sell the other two.

He said "Everyone knows who makes the best LCD, and everyone knows who makes the best Plasm" then he walked off......confused, I said to the wife - "What is he on about"....he walked back over, and said - Sony and Panasonic - and that the Samsung mentioned doesnt touch the Sony 40V/S/W models...

he then left a final word telling me never to get a Toshiba, as they are built like junk now they have moved....

all this from a shop that didnt stock the TV he told me to go for, and did stock the other two on my list - that kind of honesty speaks for itself imo.

Can't agree about Toshiba. Have one and its a damned nice 1080p set. Given the choice and the funds i'd go with a 50" Samsung myself...

The LE40A616 is only £599 delivered at 1staudiovisual.

Cant comment on the build quality myself not having had the Toshiba in the end - I opted for the Sony, but only just over this Samsung...

Pic quality from what I have seen is better on this Samsung than the Toshiba 42XV/RV at a similar price, so I would say this is a deffo bargain.

I think with a lot these TV's you can only really notice the difference when you put them next to each other, ok the higher end Sony ones are pretty awesome but so is the price tag and if you wait for it to drop then something else that looks that little bit better will be out. At this price you cant go wrong

Thanks for the heads up on this

Is it a 40in or 42in ?

I think Pioneer might be missing from there somewhere. As for SONY, they took ages to get anywhere in the LCD quality stakes. I'm not saying they're bad now but when the first started making them they were utter rubbish. Reviews were awful and the biggest complaint was the light distibution. Far too bright in some areas and far too dim in others.
Samsung not very reliable? ( diff post ) I bought a Samsung panel about 6 years ago because it was cheap. It was made in the UK had no dead pixels and runs fine to this day. Yes, it has a slow refresh rate and poor contrast ratio in comparison to new sets but it's bulletproof.

Great price, voted hot!

Samsung make darn good panels - 2 years on and i'm still very happy :)

I have the Samsung LE40A616l, which I bought recently from Amazon.

Without a doubt it is a cracker TV (looks and performance wise). So far I am very pleased with it. I looked at the A656 but I couldn't justify the higher price tag for an extra HDMI port, contrast ratio and ultra clear panel (the A616 is a mattt panel but still looks excellent). In fact, the A616 is the same series 6 model as the A656 and apart from the above features it has all the same functionality as the A656 including 100Mhz etc.
That's my 10 pence worth!

Yep, I did post a deal on the LE40A616 a few days ago, as I thought £599 for it was an excellent price (although I have the LE40A656 myself...which is fantastic!)
