Apparently so - I phoned to register last night and they are sending me the policy details within the next 14 days. I will scan and attach the leaflet when I get home from work for info

Thats true, Argos have been doing this for all their LCDs for months. I got mine with my LG LCD purchase last year. BTW it takes more than a few weeks to get the paperwork (more like 6 weeks TBH).

The first year is manufacturers warranty, then a further two years through a 3rd party which I had to phone and give details (ie catalog number, purchase price, date of purchase).

Cool about the 3 years, my brother's been after a good deal for a while.

3 year warranty is shown in the catalogue 'worth 119.99' so they say.
shocking they tried to sell you cover you were getting free but i am guessing it doesn't show in the description the cashier sees.

Yes I think its just something they tell all the cashiers to offer. I was close to taking the extra cover though - would have been fun trying to get that money back from them!!

I think its shocking that EU law says all Electronic goods have to be 2 years, but Britain doesn't comply, something like the fat cats at finance firms give the government back handers

Good luck with getting the warranty.

I bought a TV from argos at the start of last year that was advertised with a 3 year warranty and when it didn't come in the post I went down to argos to see where it was, I was told that my tv didn't come with the warranty, lucky enough I took a screenshot of the deal and had kept it on my laptop, took it down to argos and they phoned the insurance company up and got me the warranty sent out after quite a lot of hassle with junior workers at argos and the insurance company over the phone.

I asked about the warranty when buying the TV and was told by a junior member of staff that it would be automaticaly be sent out within 14 days, the manager who sorted everything out for me in the end explained that they should have gave me a leaflet with the warranty details and phone number to ring for the warranty when I bought the TV, just letting you people know because you might want to ask a manager about the warranty when buying the TV as it is not advertised on the site.

This is true I had no idea it came with the warranty untill I was given the leaflet when they stamped my receipt. It seems not many of the staff at Agros are aware of this offer.
Stange its not advertised more as would seem a major selling point.
If you are ringing for the cover ask them for the policy number before hanging up as they were able to give me that over the phone but only gave it to me when I asked if they had a reference number for the call

More like the Sale of Goods Act provides for 6 years so UK>EU in this case. However, the period you quote above relates to the time limit to raise a complaint with the seller that goods were not fit for purpose, not a guarantee as such.

The EU directive of 1999 only gives you 6 months from purchase where the seller has to refund or replace without question. After that, it is up to you to prove the seller was at fault, whether it is 2 years from purchase (Europe) or 6 years from purchase (UK).

All EU directives are mandatory guidelines and each EU member interprets it and incorporates it in its own way. This EU directive is weaker than the existing UK SoGA, so it is pretty much irrelevant.

Here's a quote from PC Advisor on this subject:

UK consumers' rights have been described as the best in Europe, and rightly so, in my opinion.

The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002, which came into force in March 2003 provide consumers with a range of remedies in the case of goods which are sold with existing defects. These remedies include repair or replacement, and/or partial or full refund.

These regulations implemented the requirements of European Directive 1999/44/EC, which set out to provide what EC legislators called a 'baseline' protection for all consumers in Europe. In fact, UK consumers already enjoyed protection at a level well above the baseline.

The Directive did not seek to provide a two year minimum guarantee period. It introduced a requirement for a two year limitation period, which is a different thing. During a limitation period consumers can report and seek redress for a fault that was there at the time of delivery. Some EU countries already had limitation periods of less than this but the equivalent limitation period in the UK was (and is) 6 years in England and Wales and five years in Scotland. Under the 2002 regulations If goods develop a fault within the first six months and a consumer claims against the retailer, the retailer will have to prove that the fault was not present when the goods were sold.

All Samsung TVs and Monitors come with 3 year warranty. I just bought the 23' monitor from Ebuyer and that came with 3 year warranty. All good.

Might be something ebuyer offers - It definately states 1 year manufacturers warranty on the leaflet - why a 3rd party insurer agree to covery warranty already covered by samsung?

site shows 1 year warranty on lcd tvs and 2 years on plasmas - http://www.samsung.com/my/support/repairpolicy/servicePolicyWarrantyMain.do

I've got almost the same TV (LE40A559P) and have been REALLY happy with it - got it for £530 I think about 9 months ago but paid extra for extended warranty from Empire Direct... What I would say is that standard settings aren't as good as they could be for SD TV so it's worth having a look on avforum.com for "optimum" settings - there are quite a few threads about on that site for this series TV and the pic quality was a lot better once I set it up correctly!

What "series" is this TV as they all look the same but vary in price for series 4/ 5/6.
Just bought a Samsung LE40A556 40" Full HD LCD TV from Currys at £599.99 (Reduced from £649.99) so if
it is series 5 or above then a good price.
I can confirn that the extra warranty to make it up to 3 years with samsung is £119.99

Good price for the spec - voted hot.

I recently opted for the 40" A686 (same panel as A656, with cosmetic differences) for £700, as it was just that bit better for what I wanted and needed.

I got mine from Richer Sounds in Liverpool at the beginning of Feb - seems that they were in plentiful supply, but less so now from what I understand. They're good for a haggle too at RS ;)

This is for home delivery only and a charge of £5.80 so should this also be added to the £538.39?
