not a bargain

No.

Definitely not.

If isnt a bargain at this price then please provide a better price.... I have scanned the internet for this tv and £717 is the cheapest without the discount codes.
#4
Exactly BigJmill, people who obviously dont won't to pay £700 for a tv dont see it as a bargain but for this spec of LCD it isnt cheaper anywhere else. Just thought i would post it in case anyone had been looking at this one and were on the verge of purchasing it.

but but but... one time 2 months ago in a small store it was 689!!!!

this afaik is the best price for this telly - if so, its hot. simple as the cold voters with no evidence.

this post is to demonstrate the best price for the product listed.....not to decide if this TV is a good buy compared to a diffferent one.

Why do so many people bitch to each other on here ?

If you don''t think the tele is a good buy compared to another then don't read the post, move on !!!

reason this is so expensive is there does not seem to be alot of stock about. so while this may be a good price if you must have this particular model I dont think its a bargain for a good 40" lcd. All the talk is of prices going up because of the $ exchange rate and companies cutting back production meaning short term shortages on some models. You pays your money and takes your chances. If you checkout http://www.foundem.co.uk/M/electronics/LCD-TV/Samsung/LE37A656A1F.jsp it gives a price history, when looking around you can see most tvs are slowly creeping up in price.

personally I was looking a this model a couple of weeks back and it was going for about £650, in the end I plumped for a panasonic 42" full hd plasma, priced matched at john lewis for 717 with 5 yr guarantee. That deal has gone now, but its always worth trying to get a price match with JL for the free 5 yr warranty.

agree with the JLP 5 year guarantee - how I bought a Sony 40" 1080p for £499 over the christmas holiday

It's a good TV, but cost me £689.40 with a stand and delivery. This was from Dixons at the end of December. I'm still waiting on cashback too which will be a nice little sum.
However I'm aware that costs on electrical goods are rising so I'm sure £702 is decent price in todays prices.

Guys everyone has a point , its all based on perspective....

Mine is.... based on this individual product at this particular time this is the cheapest price you can get .. if he had posted this when it was 680 ect then it would be cold but he never. . . with the voucher codes its £20 ish cheaper so to add cold is a bit unfair on the guy.

Ouch! I've been after this TV for ages, waiting for the price to drop. It went down to £650 around xmas but I thought I'd wait till it was sub £600.
Pixmania have it for £ 692 with the discount code Valentines093 but theres still delivery charge on that & I'm not keen on pixmania anyway.
The similar LE40A686 is available for £695 delivered at cheap electricals, don't know what they're like though?

I've been looking to buy this particular tele for a couple of weeks and was hoping someone would post a good deal for it here - and this is a good deal! Most prices I have seen range between £800-1000. So, if you want this tele Houstie has done you a favour - heat added.

616 is an inferior tv in the range with a different panel, no 100hz and less hdmi connections afaik.
#15
The only differences i can find reported between the 656 and the 686 are cosmetic while the 616 is a lower spec as brilly points out, and this is the best price for this set delivered at present.

partly true, the 616 is 100hz, but has a contrast ratio 0f 30k not 50k and a clear panel instead of an ultra clear which is how they get the higher ratios.and 3 not 4 hdmi.

you might want to read this page http://www.zettavolt.co.uk/pebble/2008/07/01/1214919000000.html to see all the samsung range - its huge- explained. even dif sized models in the same range show big differences in spec, where some with different model numbers are very similar. hope it helps if you need an alternate from the deal. dont get too hung up on specs, I was certain I wanted an lcd either samsung or sony before I saw them in the flesh next to a plasma screen, no contest I bought the plasma.

i was just going by the samsung site where motion flo 100hz is not listed as a feature for this tv. Anyway, as far as i am concerned its not a true alternative - why not mention different brands as its a different panel and less flexible so any similar will do.
The 656 and 686 are true alternatives to one another as they are very much the same.

I am not really interested in the exact specs as i have a tv just thought id point out that these are not the same - a 616 for 10 quid cheaper or so is not a better deal than this as a true alternative/equivalent would be.
#18
Allegedly the 686 has better speakers than the 656, apart from that it's just that the bezel is slimmer & darker. The 616 is lower spec altogether.

I'm also considering the PS42A457 at £479 (totally different I know). anyone have any knowledge of this one?

calm down brilly. just giving the information so people can make up their own minds.

i am calm - just trying to clarify that the 616 is NOT a true alternative... so people can make up their own minds from the correct info.

this is a good price for a good lcd - I wouldnt buy an LCD but if I had to this is the one I'd buy.
#22
i've been watching the various series 6 LCDs (37/40") for a few weeks now, and was hoping the 37" 656/686 would have dropped in price by now, but availability is scarce, and the prices seem to be getting higher if anything.

bum :(

does anyone know what the default service agreement is with Dixons? 3yr? 1yr or like JL 5 yrs?
