share a review mate ?

I bought one for £470 from 1stAV, seems pretty good so far, still trying to get the best settings for picture but colours are good. Only downside I would say so far is that the screen seems overly reflective.
#9
Nothing's coming up on that page; does that mean it is sold out.

Is that why it's so cheap? Can you still see the screen?
#14

How so - it's £479.00 @ Dixons

Decent make, decent size, decent price. Hard pushed to get a proper make 37" 720P set for much under £400, if I was buying I would certainly find that little bit extra. To my mind this size of TV is ideal for large bedrooms, smaller lounges or connecting up to the PC on your desk for gaming :)

good deal and a hot price but looking for something a bit bigger for my livingroom, does anyone know where to get a good deal on a 50" full 1080p LCD tv. thanks

Is this other deal concreate, as I may wait for this....

Same as the 40B550 at £599 (5 years warranty...free matching H1080 upscaling DVD) at John Lewis....wonder if they'd price match ...same TV but, as with most things now, JL get their own 'code' to avoid(?) price-matching!!!
#19
Spend over £500...get a £25 item?... and use 5500AW to get 5% OFF (or your code for under £500 = 3% OFF)!
#20
does anyone have areview for this TV. Mother in law wants an LCD and i`m sure it will be ok but can`t finda review anywhere

It isn't the same TV as the 40B550, the B550 has a glass effect base rather than plastic, an extra HDMI (I think) and better sound, so you would be doing well to get JL to price match.

Can anyone explain how the TV here has 1080 24p Real Movie (I assume this is the 24fps true cinema playback for Blu Ray yes?), yet it is not a 100hz TV? My understanding was that 100hz=24p. Any info appreciated!

my understanding is...24p is a feature which alters the standard of 25 fps down to 24 fps (to follow cinema/film director standards) where as 100hz is the refresh rate of the tv screen it self.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
#25
I did a bit more research and you are right Harman, whilst its common for more high end tv sets to have both the features, it is apparently not a linked requirement, so a tv can support 24p and not 100hz. One thing that seems universally dreadful is that most retail websites are terrible at explaining what stuff is, with a lot contradicting the actual features the tv has.

Anyhow, another interesting fact I found that may help those thinking of this as a bedroom tv (with the distance viewing that implies, unless some of you live in mansions) is that an optimal seating from a 1080p image is around 5 Feet, which is about the distance from where I sit in my room, usually on the bed because its more comfy than the desk chair, to the TV.

Reserved one to collect tomorrow with the 3% code, heat + rep ty :D
#26
had this telly its very reflective quite alot of motion blurr and lots of noise tried lots off different settings but made little difference ended up returning it would not recomend but a good price
#27
Would this price be available instore or does it just apply to online?
#28
Instore, just apply the coupon code once you have the tv in basket and it will then let you reserve.

I've heard about the reflective thing, I guess a lot of this is down to where/how you use it, most of the time this is going to be used in a darkened room/at night/curtains closed (lol sounds well dodgy doesnt it) so I don't think it will be a problem.

Regarding motion blur, it's got 6ms response so that shouldnt be an issue, I guess again it depends on a lot of variables such as the source of the image etc

Ordered! HOT :-)

Sweet deal!

Picked up at the deal price this morning at Nottingham Giltbrook, was told that I could also get 10% off any accessories bought at the same time (I didnt want any, got everything!) and they didn't push the warranty as badly as Currys, so another plus side. They had nine left at the front of the store - same TV in local Tesco Extra for 649.00! It's very very nice, especially if like me your old LCD is one of the lesser branded ones (old one is Goodmans 32")! When I get it set up later I'll post some thoughts on what I think of it to help others out.
#32

Then I'm afraid you'll be waiting a long time then!

You don't get mainstream tv's with built in dvd players at that size.
#34
Would this be suitable in a bedroom for gaming and general tv watching or would it be too big?
Great deal though.
#35
You are SEVERELY limiting your choices if you're waiting for a built in DVD player, I wouldn't advise anyone to do it!
#36
Just picked on up from Comet at Heeley Sheffield. Will report later. Bloody big box !
#37
like the price

Well played around with it and well pleased, only slight issue is the 24fps playback, you must change the input source (so like PS3) to 1080i, turn the film mode on, then when you change the input back to 1080p the 24fps stays turned on, but you cannot turn on or off whilst in 1080p mode.

I trawled the internet for settings as I hate trying to do stuff like this, I came up with the following from AV Forums and modified a little for my liking;

Standard Mode
Backlight 5
Contrast 84
Brightness 52
Sharpness 50
Color 51
Tint(G/R) G55/R45

Detailed Settings
Black Adjust - High
Dynamic Contrast - High
Gamma - 0
Color Space - Auto
Flesh Tone - 0
Edge Enhancement - On
White Balance -- All settings at 25

Picture Options
Color Tone - Normal
Digital NR - Auto
Film Mode - Auto
HDMI Black level : low
Energy Savings -Off

Then turn Game Mode on.

Only thing I am not sure on with these settings is the high sharpness and DNR being on, sure I have read that software effecting sharpness isnt a great idea but I will experiment.

For the Movie profile I used the settings on this page, with the backlight turned up to suit me;
http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/Samsung-LE40B650/Settings.htm - some of these settings are not on the TV but most of them are and they do work well to my eyes, once you adjust, and I turned film mode on.

Regarding previous comments about reflections, well no issues here and the TV faces the main window of my room! The Piano Black finish is very reflective but the screen isnt!

Cannot recommend enough at this price to be honest, difference from my £300 Goodmans one of 2 years age is unbelievable.

Just to add to the previous post:

I always keep DNR & 100Hz switched off on my sammy's and like it that way.

Almost all the new samsung's are quite reflective so its not limited to this TV, having said that, these are fantastic and cracking price too :)

Any recommendations for a wall mounting bracket suitable for this tv? Thanks in advance.
