Posted this earlier...

Just bought this from Tesco.

£404 (inc £5 shipping).
Used voucher for £10 off (or could have used 500 bonus points instead).

I just bought it on Saturday... it's BRILLIANT!

plays directly almost all extensions (except rmvb and some types of mp4 and raw dvds).
It scales, it processes, it goes on your LAN and can access your media servers.

Out of the box it's stunning, very good contrast, blacks are quite good....everything's tunable...

I bought it for £443 thinking it's a very good price for the spec, and now that they reduced the priced, they refunded the difference...
You can always trust Amazon.

Just out of curiosity, is the a better Tv than http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-KDL40EX401U-40-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B003BVI4BW/ref=pd_cp_ce_3 as the feedback seems to be the viewing at angles with the sony not so good.

Anyone know if this can get BBC iplayer or play WMV files downloaded from iplayer? Thanks.

No internet! Just LAN/WLAN enabled, but doesn't access internet......

Haven't tried Iplayer files on it... but when I tried mp4's from Youtube, it didn't play'em. Although it plays many mp4's in hidef.

I'm playing SD AVI's straight from the usb harddrive and the results are quite good..
It easily took 2 drives (1tb each) and handled them well..

Not gonna mention HD content as it goes without saying "OOOMPH"

Only gripe is the built-in speakers.... I took the analogue Headphone o/p to my 5.1 it kicked a$$

I like to believe that I'm fussy when it comes to quality, but on the other hand, I don't know how you see things :)

Sounds like an incredible deal!

1- Samsung make very good LCD's...
2- This has FV. HD
3- quite a good all-rounder
4- for that price, only thing that matches would be another Toshiba Regza on Amaon ,, that you could've got for £430 (including 10% with code from Toshiba)

unless you get a 42" 720p Plasma and it'd be an old gen

I bought this last week for £443, is there anyway I can get a refund on the price drop? I remember reading somewhere that Amazon offer refunds on price drops within a certain period of time within purchases.

This seems a cracking deal

Okay I know someone who works at Tesco and can get me this tv for £359 using his discount card, is that a bargain? Is 50hz okay for gaming?

I bought this TV from Amazon at the £443 price the other week (if only I'd waited :)), but it's a great TV as far as I can see. I've tested it with gaming, movies and using it to stream videos from my PC and the picture is excellent in all cases. Seems to be worse in SD compared to my plasma, but then I am sitting much closer to it.

Would this tv be too much as a bedroom tv for gaming etc?

I'm deciding between these two aswell. Hearing good things about the Samsung but not a lot about the Sony.

Going to John Lewis tomorrow to have a look

Depends on the size of the bedroom, but 32" seems a more reasonable size for that kind of room

Might be worth getting John Lewis to pricematch the Tesco price of £399, as you get the Free 5 Year Guarantee....

Sounds like a good plan - this looks like a great tv for the price - might try this before I get this one!

Do they do it automatically or do you have to email them?

If you're playing files over LAN, does the TV do the decoding or does it need a sufficiently powerful computer to play the file & send the picture? If the TV's clever enough to decode HD mkv, this is very tempting!

Amazon just emailed me the following:

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk.

The discounts we offer for items on our website do vary from time to time. I've checked your order #xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and found that we now offer a greater discount on Samsung LE40C580 40-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p Allshare LCD TV with Freeview HD than at the time you placed your order.

Unfortunately, we cannot extend a refund to you for the difference between the original price and the lower price you saw posted on our website.

While we don't always beat the best available price on every product, we do offer deep discounts on many thousands of items. From time to time, prices on some items will change due to special offers from suppliers and manufacturers or our inventory and sales volumes. When we can offer a lower price for new purchases we will, but we cannot extend these discounts to completed orders. I am sorry for any disappointment that this may cause.

I know you are concerned about the price you paid, and certainly understand if you choose to return the item and purchase it at a lower price. I've checked your order and confirmed that you bought this item less than 30 days ago and may return it by visiting our Online Returns Center:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/returns

I recognise that you have a choice of retailers. Amazon.co.uk offers deep discounts on many thousands of items, and I hope you'll be able to take advantage of these discounts in the future.

Thank you for shopping at Amazon.co.uk.

So not refunding the difference to me.

How did you get the difference refunded?
#33
But if it only had USB record...... ;o)

Just organised a refund for mine. Not happy they wont refund the difference. I am tempted by john lewis now as they give you the 5 year offer

I am tempted with the John Lewis one aswell - it is worth a bit extra piece of mind with the 5 year warranty. I have e-mailed John Lewis and asked if they will price match - so will let you know if/when I get a response.
#36
Someone said on another thread that JL will price match if the other company also include the five year warranty.

I can't think of anyone apart from JL who include the 5 year warranty with their tv's.
#37
I contacted John Lewis they added on the 5 year warranty from the tesco website showing that the John Lewis price is cheaper.

No Price Match

Tesco is also out of stock

Yeh I just got the same response - I'm going with John Lewis and the 5 year warranty - well worth paying extra for!
#39
John Lewis recently changed their price matching rules on TV's. Historically it used to be that they would match other retailers prices and give you the 5 year warranty. Now they will only match the price when the other retailer includes the price of a 5 year warranty.

Thanks for posting, was unsure over 37 or 40 but this has sealed it.. Cheers
