don't understand why you wouldn't vote this as HOT
#2
Hot as good deal, however, if you're not in a rush just before and after Christmas and come new years day this should be hitting a nicer price.
#3
I think its hot! 8)

Not 100% sure but dont JL do price match is so you could get it even cheaper by matching it with the Amazon price of £415.32 ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-LE40C580-Widescreen-Allshare-Freeview/dp/B003DNSJ5Y/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top ) sry if im wrong , Still hot from me even if they dont price match as the 5 year warranty is well worth that little extra £34.63

They wont price match to online only retailers such as amazon, still an awesome price with a 5 year guarentee
#6
like the 5 year g'tee bit...

It is an excellent deal. The price for this at JL went down latter part of last week but I couldn't be bothered to post!! I need to it go lower still or I'll go probably go for the C650 instead.
Price matching has to be a fair like for like comparison and take into account the cost of the 5yr guarantee.

GRRRR :( Only bough this last week from Amazon for £435 without the 5 year guarantee and they made a complete mess of it - next day delivery didn't show so I cancelled, only for it to turn up 4 days later!! Decided to keep it as it was the best price at the time but just emailed them demanding a price match or it's going back and I'll get it from JL.

All that said, it's a fantastic TV and this a fantastic deal. Heat added ;)

£415 at amazon now, would still prefer the warranty with JL though
#10
I have this, paid £480 a month ago, no regrets, really good TV, it also has separate HDMI sound input and a headphone jack, all the audio options you need
#11
I have the 46 inch version of this, bought a month ago and I'm pretty happy with it,

The media player is great, has played everything I've thrown at it, but does not play subtitles on MKV files.
#12
Does the HDMI input pass 5.1 back out via the optical / coax out? i.e. if I were to connect a DVD player via HDMI, would I get 5.1 or do I still have to connect the optical out from the DVD player straight to an amp. This is one of thse holy grail things for me with TVs.
#13
Would opt for a 100Mhz set rather than this but still a good price with 5 year gtee.

With ARC technology you should be fine with just the HDMI, depends on your kit though, if your amp is also ARC enabled

Hot deal. I've had 2 Samsungs, both have gone wrong just after 1 year (bad capacitors), very expensive repairs, though we managed to replace the last blown capacitors ourselves at a cost of £8. It's a known problem with Samsung tellies apparently. But with 5 years warranty you'd be covered anyway. I say go for it!
#16
Scorching!

I got this model in July, and picture quality is superb on HD.
#17
Well there's a result.

Got this TV as explained above using a £20 discount code just last week = £335. Just had an email from Amazon refunding the price difference, only they've refunded based on the pre-discount code price of £455, meaning a £40 refund and a final price of £395 :D

Got this TV last month from JL for £480 - Brilliant telly! I had to return the first one (AA02 model) but the new one (SQ01 model) is fantastic. Great service from JL, and at £30 cheaper it's an excellent deal!
#19
does anyone know how big the box is? I've just bought it and wondering whether it would fit in the back of a normal coupe sized car?
#20
My Samsung 37 inch 5 series just died, 4 months old. Wouldn't buy another Samsung (without warranty)

As this has 5 years, perfect. And Freeview HD!

Bought this yesterday from Brent Cross. Very impressed and fantastic price. I was debating spending more and going for an LED or 100hz model, but now I have it home and set up I'm glad I didn't - couldn't be happier. 5 year warranty is a real bonus and makes this a better deal than the slightly cheaper price on Amazon.

As a tip... if you want wireless connectivity try any wireless USB dongles you have laying about. The spare D-Link one I got from Virgin Media is recognised and works fine... assume it has the same chipset as the Samsung one.

Just quickly measured... 120cm*73cm*17cm give or take a few mm.

A review says this doesn't have allshare but amazon title says it does? so does it? does it also have [email protected]? having got the samsung 50C7000 downstairs am thinking about this for the bedroom but would only buy if it had those features
#24
No internet TV.

Not sure on exactly what allshare is (not familiar with the marketing lingo!) but it'll play video/audio/photos either form a USB mass storage device, or from a DLNA share (although seems to be a bit picky as to what DLNA software it'll play with).

bummer, will go back to my search then, thanks

At 50hz what's the refresh rate like?
#27
This TV isn't for me, as I'm not a fan of LCD tech. I like deep blacks, so plasma all the way for me.

Here is a review of this tv:

Voted hot but it is £415 at Amazon if you don't mind not having the 5 year guarantee. Should be buying mine from John Lewis if my mate can get me a staff discount.

Yeah its a lot smaller than boxes used to be, its about less than half the size my 37" plasma came in a couple of years ago

sicknote
At 50hz what's the refresh rate like?

I've upgraded to this from a Panasonic TH37PX70 plasma, i'm not missing the plasma at all, 50 Hz is absolutely fine, still trying to see a point to 100Hz, especially since it makes a lot of video look weird.

Back up to £499.95

gutted...was going to purchase and now its gone up in price !!! thats what i get for dithering !!

Richersounds are probably your best bet now at a similar price with 5 year guarantee (£12 more than JL's recent £449.95) but it is for instore customers only.

It's gone up to £499..

does anyone know what to do if the freeview doesn't work? for most of the channels all I'm getting is scrambled signal....

all i'm getting at the moment is bbc 1 and 2, itv and channel 4 :(

is it an old aerial or what?
#35
Guess what - electronics die.

Just this week I've managed to kill my £1K amp and £500 PC - doesn't mean I won't be buying any more Onkyo or Gigabyte boards... Sh1t happens - hence the warranties :)
