John Lewis has just dropped its price for this High Spec Samsung. It has good reviews and represents good value with the 5 year guarantee thrown in.

this TV does look good in the reviews, but not sure about the price tag. any thoughts?
Well I've been watching this like a hawk for months and posted a deal not so long ago for £473 without the extended guarantee, but that appeared to be limited stock clearance as it expired quickly. You can get it ever so slightly cheaper at Amazon and Pixmania for example but not with the 5 year guarantee. What I can't do is compare and contrast with its I've decided after lots of research that I am getting this one.

Probably worth waiting until the sales but this can be with you in time for Christmas if you fancy a bit of pampering.
Got this 12 months ago for £620 in Comet. Model the 652.
Not a great deal but a nice TV.
hot from me excellent deal
Would you say this is a better deal than this?

great TV with fabulous picture. price has been very stable and not may discounts available. Costco had it for £620-ish with 5yr guarantee for a several months. This deal is very good, but I suspect the real price drop is still to come

PS - [email protected] functionality is very good - excellent apps, iPlayer, Lovefilm on demand etc. WiFi dongle relatively affordable at £40

Good price :D. Hard to decide between this and a Sony 40EX530 though.
Think I'd want an LED for this price. Bit much just for a 40" Samsung isn't it when we're constantly seeing 32" ones for around the £300 mark?
Avoid like the plague if you want it for gaming.

I disagree, with game mode turned on it's noticeable input lag on my PS3. I paid £700 for this TV about a year ago (?) and have found it to be excellent all round.

I don't know what games you are playing or to what level, but the lag is 45ms. Thats even higher than the EX403.

Hmm...maybe it is an issue then...I only really play PS3 stuff offline...Uncharted, Demon's Souls etc...not exactly twitch gaming. Main gaming is on my 360 on a Sammy LE32C450.

I think all games bar FPS and possibly racing games, should be ok to play on this LCD.
same here been watching the 37" version for a price reduction to sub £450 but nothing lol..This gets 5 star reviews all day long from everyone

A cracker!!!!!!!!!!!

The TV does get a good review... but be aware that there is a bit of a panel lottery with these TV's, depends on the panel you get as to your satisfaction, or as read in this thread
this LCD is 134 Watts, the LED's are 100W & sony LCD 40" 106W. This tv is a bit juicy for todays TV's.
Thanks a lot for posting this deal. I ordered it now after looking for a pretty decent deal since a couple of weeks. A very good alternative for me was the Panasonic Plasma 40" G20B.

However, I decided for the Samsung LE40C650 because of
1. better design
2. I was afraid of the black level adjustments of the Panasonic over time which some user reviews mention
3. I had good experience with my previous Samsung 32" set
4. during a direct comparison in a shop I had the feeling that the motion flow functionality of the Samsung set made a significant difference (but except for this the picture quality was absolutely comparable if not to say the same)
5. I don't fear the panel lottery because the set is delivered by trusted John Lewis meaning that if I am not happy with it I will send it back

An LED TV or 3D set at this price level was never a real alternative for me since I rather prefer a matured LCD technology than an more or less embryonic LED technology (look for clouding in reviews).

Nevertheless, keep in mind that this is an absolutely subjective review.
Expire, £649 now, Amazon cheaper.
557 in argos- not sure about the warranty tho
