Hi,

I am seriously interested in this deal however, I was also looking a the The Hitachi L42VP01U 42” LCD television which is on at £749 with John Lewis with 5 year guarantee,

Does anyone have any advise here?

we have a young family who haven't discovered Xbox yet, just the wii, we intend to get a blue ray DVD player when they come down in price as we don't watch that many films, and we don't really want to buy another TV for some years as we are not technical kind of people just like good quality sound and vision from the set

Hi there, hitachi is a good tv also especially with the 5yr warranty ,

Specs of both are good i would personally go for the samsung in my opinion , 1080p a must if you are looking at get blu ray, that will give you clearest and best picture.

I wouldnt tell them about xbox lol best is ps3. also with ps3 it can play blurays, 2 birds with 1stone in a manner when you look at bluray later.

Hope this helps

Thanks Steveocole

Any comments on the sound between these 2, I had heard that Samsung were not all that hot on sound, I went into Currys and asked for a demo, but the assistant said it wasn't rigged up to be heard just seen?

I bought the LE40M86BD 2 weeks ago.

I actually managed to get my older Samsung LE40r88BD exchanged for it as it was suffering from lip sync problems when hooked up to a surround sound system (which was my hi-fi system at the time.)

I paid £50 extra whilst in Currys to get the £199 Samsung home cinema which I thought was a great deal in itself, but the new tv still suffers from the same problem when hooked up with surround sound.

Supposidly most LCD suffer from some sort of Lip Sync issues because of the delay in processing the picture, and Samsung are supposidly one of the worst for this from what I'm led to believe:(
My £299 E-Buyer Haanspree TV doesn't suffer from this by the way.

Don't get me wrong though as £699 is a great price, but because of the sound issues I've had, then I couldn't recommend getting another Samsung LCD tv to anyone right now.

And for what its worth, I think the picture quality on the previous Samsung TV was better to0 and that was only a 720p set, however maybe once I eventually get Sky HD then this will change.

Good luck in getting something sorted out as its a minefield out there:)

Hope the above helps you, but please remember its only my personal opinion on the sets.

Thanks thommo7879, yes it is a minefield,

Has anyone any experience of Hitachi set?

i have a samsung 32" at the mo, i have hooked this up to a logitec 5.1 surround sound and dont have any problems with lip sinc being out ? so this may contrast the issue a bit with what was previous said.

just to make your decision alot harder lol

The Hitachi your talking about is 1080p same as this set, but after viewing the Hitachi instore, the picture quality was poor even with blue ray.
