veyr good price for a 6cell, non gloss, wireless N, and overall a samsung netbook! these samsung netbook range are quite awesome, a class above the rest of the netbooks available
#2
Come on - a Samsung six cell delivered for under £220 with the offered cash back?

Its got to be worth a bit more enthusiasm!!!!
#3
i like samsungs , but samsungs owners have that 'rabid totalitarian superiority' usually reserved for Mac users.
The kind of people who buy a netbook for £300+ based on the brand !

This , of course , is a brilliant piece of kit at a brilliant price ! H&R

I want to like this but the downsides all seem to be quite useful, are there any alternatives that have the below for similar money, I have not done any research on Netbooks but am in the market for one this weekend!

DOWNSIDES:- N270 PROCESSOR, STANDARD GRAPHICS, ONLY ONE SPEAKER, NO BLUETOOTH , NO 3G. THE BOTHER OF CASHBACK (although its easy to do).

How is this to run MS Office 2007, Photoshop, and play youtube videos?
Assuming you keep the ram to 1gb.

how is this in comparison to the nc10 samsung netbook

Fairly similar, just depends on what you prefer. No blutooth is a bit of a downer, and only one speaker is a bit rubbish (not that the NC10 speakers are very good - quite crap actually), but it does have 11n, and I suspect you could swap the 11n card for one with 11n and bluetooth.

I'm more than happy with my NC10, but if the graphics on this are a little better might rather buy this.

I know this is probably a very stupid question, but what's the difference between a laptop and a netbook? Feel free to laugh at my ignorance.

I've been wanting to get a small laptop/netbook for going to lectures/lessons with, but this seems almost too small. I'll be reading quite a lot of PDFs on it and typing notes in the library etc, so I'm thinking maybe a small laptop would be more use than a tiny netbook?
#13
I've brought this, installed 2GB of RAM (Very easy to do) and installed WIN7 (not that easy to do without a USB CD Drive) but it's a great little bit of kit perfect for travel and internet browsing.

It's handled everything I've thrown at it so far.....

Comet price - £239.81

Anyone care to point me in the direction of some cheap/reliable RAM for this? Crucial about the best?

A Netbook will typically be a lot smaller with a 10" ish screen and as pointed out above no disk drive. A laptop will have drive built in and have a 14"+ screen.

Assuming you keep the ram to 1gb.
There are a couple of issues, but broadly speaking you can run those applications. Day-to-day documenent editing is fine, but obviously if you're going to be recalculating on large spreadsheets it's going to be a bit sluggish (due to a combination of memory and the Intel Atom processor). Some Youtube content may stutter because the Intel integrated graphics is not really optimised for video. With Photoshop you have to bear in mind that the resolution on netbook screens tends to be 1024 x 600, so it makes editing harder for example. But I have been surprised how usable my NC10 netbook has been when I was forced to do without main desktop PC for a few months.

looking to do something similar, is that w7 premium? did you buy an upgrade or?
#22
Very interested in this, have been looking out for a quality netbook (with 6 cell battery) for a few weeks. Was keen on the Lenovo ideapad s10-2, although slightly more expensive (£269). If anyone can shed some light as to whether the Ideapad is worth the extra cost (is there anything to be gained) or not it would be much appreciated.
#23
Great price. Those 'downsides' you quoted are common to most netbooks, and you can pick up a bluetooth adapter for pennies on DX or ebay
#24
Good price just got it for £202 though (see earlier post) collected yesterday at Comet !

Is it possible to watch a movie on these with an external hard drive

Any 2gb Crucial laptop size card should work providing that its 800mhz SODIMM

You may need to keep the original 1Gb stick as Samsung support won't talk to you unless that's installed

It depends on the format that the movie has been encoded in and the bit rate; some are more processor intensive than others. I have copied a few dvd ISO and SD divx formatted films both internally to the hard drive and to a Toshiba usb one and they play back fine.

The lower resolution typical on netbooks (1024 x 600) can result in a bit more scrolling, but otherwise I find pdfs perfectly readable. Likewise for typing on since the keyboard is very close to full size. It depends on your budget really - the advantage for me is mainly in the battery life and the lightness, but otherwise a small laptop might well suffice.

Standard Divx movies play fine. Even upto 720p files are fine, anything above that and it struggles.

If I get one of these, will I too be elevated to the ranks of the 'kinetic elite'? It's kind of a big selling point for me.
