Samsung N130 Netbook - Open Box @ Expansys £189.99

OK, this is a super little laptop, and at £189.99, it is a steal.

With 1Gb RAM & Windows XP & 160Gb Hard Drive.

The box has been opened and Expansys have checked the contents. It is packaged as new. So nothing to fear.

What are you waiting for?

+£7 delivery.

I'd rather go for the Compaq Netbook at Amazon for £199 delivered knowing it was brand new (similar spec).
#2
It is being sold as band new though.

The Compaq has built in broadband dongle (just add sim) + good reviews on site.

This is the laptop. That is the price. Its not an argument as to whether one pc is better than another. That is it. At under £200 for a netbook, with a decent hard drive and xp, irrespective whether HSDPA is available or not, it's a fab deal.

Anyway, I wouldn't touch a Compaq/HP product with a barge pole. Well, except when I have to fix them :¬) !!!

Do you fix them for a living? I always thought HP built to a decent spec and well above the quality of Acer etc. or do they build at two levels, maybe a 'value' raneg and better 'business spec'?

Nice find. Hot from me. Expansys are IMHO a good company to deal with and the fact that the box has been opened isn't a problem. Heat & Rep. :)
#7
Samsung = Quality Not knocking anything else but this is a good price for a Samsung

Yes I am (un)lucky enough to be a Computer Engineer. I have seen quite a lot of failures due to design limitations from HP including their premium laptops and tablets. Still there are always arguments for and against brands, but I can only go on my findings.

I have a Samsung NC10 netbook and I love it. I upgraded the memory and hard drive and swapped out the motherboard to give me HSDPA access, and can honestly say that it is the best bit of kit that I have ever purchased.

so the thing you like most about your samsung nc10 is that you have replaced virtually all of it ?

I can call myself the Pope, but it doesn't make me Catholic!

New? Yeah sure :whistling:
#11
I upgraded it. It was really good beforehand, but I couldn't resist the 2Gb RAM and 500Gb Hard Drive upgrades. I fillied it full of music and used it to DJ a couple of set at some big parties and ceilidhs

Brilliant and the battery lasts for hours. Small and light and does everything I could ask of it. Honest!

That's wrong, the model of £199 des not have built in dongle, the 3G card cost £130 on its own, it has space where to put the sim card under the battery but there is no card (mini pci card) inside the machine. I have the machine:-D

I think its great, just wish i had the cash heat & rep added.

+1 - I'm out of funds just now (I had purchased the Compaq Mini 110c Deal via Carphone Warehouse) but this is still a decent option especially with the inclusion of the six cell battery.

Heat and Rep OP for this find.

how long does the battery last on this.how do you upgrade the hard drive?

Did you not hear Steve 'The Messiah' Jobs today during his little shindig? Netbooks are old news, baby. They are also not very efficient. What you need is a shiny new iPad. Fancy cluttering up the board with such un-groundbreaking products, for shame.

I have been thinking of getting a Toshiba nb200-11l (£199.99 after £50 cash back) does anyone know it compares to the Samsung N130?

I have a n140
good laptop
be aware though that the top of the laptop is gloss
i covered it in vinyl so i dont have to worry about scratches every time i look at it

also the n130 doesnt have bluetooth
i also advise windows xp on these dont be tempted to put win7 on as it runs like a dog on netbooks
my n140 came with win7 and was running 93 processes on boot
i slimmed it down to 32 and still didnt run well

im running xp pro now 20 processes on boot nice and snappy to use

I've not used that model but here's the technical specifications and a couple of online reviews - note that you need to buy it before the end of January to have the option of the cashback but also you need to check it's from a reseller that links into it.

I'd rather have this than an iPlank ...

+ Heat.

Hehehe. It was excellent in it's original spec, I just wanted to improve it a little...

So this is basically second hand, not Brand New.

As new doesn't mean new, and lets be honest just because the site states its just been opened to check everything is in the box, doesn't mean they are telling the truth.

The last "pre opened" thing I bought was from Richer Sound, I reserved a brand new LCD TV over the phone for collection when I arrived to collect it I see the box had been opened and the manager was standing there.

When I asked why it had been opened as I was obviously going to be transporting it, he assured me that it had only just been opened for inspection purposes only.

Anyways, to cut a long story short. I got it home to find a returns sticker on the rear of the set, right at the bottom. I had been sold a second hand TV.

In actual fact the TV had been returned due to a blemish on the screen, I found that out as they left the last customers telephone number and address on the sticker so i called the previous owner who confirmed the fault.

If your going to buy something that's been opened you ideally really want to buy it in a shop you can walk in to so you can check it before you buy it.

If your still considering buying one make sure you check out the sites returns policy and postage charges (including insurance) in case your not happy with it and want to back it.

It's horse for courses - the 1008HA is brand new but it is a nightmare to upgrade the memory and the hard disk but also the battery design is non-removable when compared against the N130; of course though the 1008HA is the higher end solution when you compare the two and exclude those three points.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Agree - I used to work for HP and also owned several HP laptops and would never advise anyone to buy HP. They just do not specify or control the ODM process very well - they trade on their good name which really is history now as they no longer produce anything themselves!

The last HP laptop i owned was an nc6000 and I can honestly say 90% of these will fail after 3 or 4 years with a known design fault, as mine did - there are other notorious examples.
#33
I think you'll find a LOT of laptops will fail for one reason or another after 3/4 years they're engineered to do so so they can sell more of them nothing is engineered to last these days

'The box has been opened and the contents have been checked. They are packaged as new'
It does not say that Expansys have checked them or that they are Brand New.
These have been very likely returned to the Manufacturer for some reason then sent to a Contract Re-Packaging Warehouse.
They are listed as 'B' Grade whatever that is
#36
Guys. This is a very cheap, quality laptop. The price makes it a deal, a steal, its the sale of the ####ing century. Quoted from Lock, Stock and 2 smoking barrels.

Your mate is right Mc Donalds hamburgers do have something in them that make you want another one, just like Krispy Kremes and Yum Yums..

RE Samsung N130:

If these were sealed, brand new that would be a brilliant deal but i wouldn't call it the sale of the century. All the new Atoms are out now so these n280/n270's will gradually all start to drop in value.

I'm holding out for a deal on a ASUS Eee PC 1201N best netbook out to date

I've been running Windows 7 RC on my Acer Aspire One A150 for almost a year and had very few problems with it. Certainly no performance issues. Have you tried doing a fresh install without all the crapware that most vendore insist on giving you?
