if you bought the Wind U130, it's considerably better.

If you bought the U90, it has a smaller screen.

Besides...this deal will probably be removed soon as I believe that only eBay DOTD are allowed...

it wont be removed, it was edited by the powers that be so that it points at ebay dotd, of which this is one.

Can you please say how it is better? I would like to know as I just got the same one (U130) and was thinking of getting the N130

You probably got the MSI U130 with a newer N450 CPU, Win 7 SE, a 1.3MB webcam and a 3-cell battery with 4hrs life, so it is better value (and lighter). I got mine from Argos clearance (it wasn't a DTOD so wasn't here on HotUK). Argos still sold over 80 of these in 1/2 a day, so you were lucky to get one.

(I originally wanted the ASUS 1005HA for £165 with 8 hrs battery life, but I missed out on that)

^ what he said

Plus, the U130 comes with Bluetooth...if you want, you can pick up a 6-cell or 9-cell battery of eBay for around £30 and you'll have shedloads of battery life too.

Personally, I went for the U100, as I wanted one to run Mac OS X, which you can't do on the U130.

I have an NC10 which is on its last legs (The screen whites out and it's out of warrenty), can these newer netbooks handle video better (HD at all) than the NC10?

This Samsung won't be any better...I believe it has the same combination of N270 Atom and GMA950 graphics.

A MSI U130 upgraded to 2Gb would perform better and could probably handle uncompressed 720p quite well, but may still struggle on highly compressed HD.

I found that using something like VLC improves playback performance. I also found that my netbook running VLC under Mac OSX handles HD better than when running VLC under XP. My 2Gb bluray rip of Watchmen is smooth on Mac OS X, but there's visible tearing when on XP. The same is true of my 6Gb bluray rip of Goodfellas.

I don't think that Windows bloatware helps matters.

Cmparing a 10 year old os to Mac Osx is clever.

Use Windows Media Player Classic Hime Cinema and Coreavc codec (buy)

VLC does not use GPU acceleration under xp whilst Media Player Classic does.

You want to play 720 on a netbook then buy an ion netbook and stop moaning about playback. It's like buying a £20k saloon and complaining it doesnt do 0-60 in under 7 seconds.

love this site
i bought the msi wind u130 cheap , very impressed but early days , appearance well smart
running vlcplayer movies are good , faster than my 5 yr old laptop , sound a bit tinny so bought the speakers which were also here which should attach perectly to the top of netbook
thanks to all who no a hell of a lot more than me for their advice

How exactly is it like for like comparison?
#19
Comparing the latest OSX to XP Sp3 is like comparing XP to a mac OS with last updates from 1991, and then moaning that blu ray's won't play

Anyways, decent deal. I'm looking at the acer ferrari one for £300... So tempted!

Looks like all gone to me anyway... expire away...

Considering a new N130 from ebuyer before end of tax year...

Damnit. Didn't see that posted? *gnash*

It has Windows Vista Home...

I'd say Vista is a poor choice for 1GB. XP runs so much better with limited memory.

1GB Vista machines are into virtual memory as soon as you run most applications, virtual memory uses the hard drive as memory rather than chip memory which can read and write100 times faster. That's why PCs with not much memory regulalry slow down and you see the hard drive light flash constantly.

XP is just a lot more comfortable with 1GB, Vista really needs 1.5 - 2gb to run smoothly.
#24
Anyone tried Windows 7 Starter yet and compared to XP/Vista?

What is it with the batteries on these netbooks? I bought an N130 last month, went on holiday for 3 weeks, and when I came back, the battery just won't charge. I guess I should have left it plugged in while I was away.
