And that has a 1366 x 768 screen which I would have if I was buying another netbook.

It looks like it has HDMI too reading the comments in the Amazon review.

The Samsung N140 netbook will come the older Intel Atom N270 CPU, 250GB hard drive and also Windows 7 Starter Edition - the Samsung N150 comes with the newer Intel Atom N450, the smaller 160GB hard drive and also the older Windows XP Home Edition.

Key differences are with the CPUs, as the N450 is meant to be better for power management and battery runtime.

OK, right I am confused by battery life as in the original post this quoted '* Longer lasting battery life - extended battery life of up to 8 hours' then later 'It delivers premium style at a great value, with up to 12 hours of battery life to extend your enjoyment'. Anyone confirm exactly what the battery life is? Oh and what's the difference between the N150 on Amazon and this one on overlockers? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-118-SA&groupid=959&catid=1827&subcat=

Am I missing something obvious? I currently have an NC10 and am looking to upgrade. I do like Samsungs though and have heard bad things about Asus.

Yeah....like Matt, we got the Toshiba NB300-108 from Toys R Us....excellent little machine:

N450
250gb hdd
1gb ram
Win 7
Wireless N

....and battery life is around 10hours

Its well worth checking your local Toys R Us to see if they have any, as its a bargain for £229 (its hard to get it online, as it goes in an d out of stock so quickly)!

Pity ot's got Windows XP ...... for not a lot more you can get a model with Windows 7 .... far better option ;)

Yep, it's a really nice netbook (and does have HDMI), although you don't get anywhere near 8 hours of battery life -- probably more like 4-5 in general use.

any way to extend the warranty on this?

Did HP ever release the 311c with Windows 7 - or do you definitely get XP, as advertised?
#17
All that shows up is the specifications listed in the review no comments are showing , tried it on my itouch and desktop.

I saw a Compaq Netbook in Morrisons this morning for £160. Similar specs, is that a good price. They also had a Toshiba Laptop for £250, it had an Athlon processor with a code something like 202 in it.

I'm pretty sure you can only get it with XP.

Actually, I was a bit hasty -- I didn't realise the Amazon one was a slightly different model to mine. I've got the 311c-1010SA which definitely does have HDMI but someone posted here that the Amazon one (1020SA) definitely doesn't have HDMI...

Sorry to play the pedant, but it's not "meant to be better" - it actually is better.
The die-shrink and integration of the GPU with the CPU has yielded an approximate 40% drop in power requirements (Wikipedia says down from 11.8 W to 7 W).

I bought an Asus 1001PX with Pineview chipset a few months back for which Asus claim 5 hours battery life from a 3-cell unit. When at operating temperature, I've measured it drawing 10.5W total when browsing with WLAN switched on which equates pretty well with the Wikipedia figure once you factor in the overhead of WLAN, HDD and LED screen. This actually yields a "real use" figure of 4hr 15m for me.

So for the benefit of Rachelandgromit: based on actual usage on a similar system, I would say it's quite possible to get 8 hours battery usage from this Samsung (though the 12 hour figure sounds unrealistic).
