Hot, are these worth getting over say a laptop, I'm in need of a second device for some office tasks, internet browsing and some media.
#2
I have an Acer Aspire One and think its GREAT!!

This is apparently EVEN better!!
#3
been looking at netbooks. I think its an eee pc 1000h or samsung nc10 for me. Can't choose though. Been looking at specs closely. Samsung nc10 seems to be the best but the eee pc has wireless n, which is a big bonus to me. Top price by the way, heat added
#4
Even better if you have an Egg card (2.5% off) - pity it ain't PCW or Currys - they're 5%.

Here is direct link.

Hi Guys...first post...just want to confirm that the NC10 is a cracker! - I got one on pre-order on Play.com for £299 about a month ago and im very very pleased with it. Wouldnt hesitate to reccommend it.

Cheers

Not sure if this is a good price, but, just bought an Advent 4490 from currys

1.0gb Ram
120gb Hard Drive
Windows XP Home SP3
8.9" widescreen
Wi-Fi
Web Cam
Intel Atom N270

All for £229

Its a really nice Netbook - With Xp as standard, Same price as the Acer Aspire 150's (without!)

(Doesn't have bluetooth tho, so a little BT dongle for around £8 should be fine!)

You can swap the mini-PCI wireless card for a wireless -n one as many people have done.

The only downside to this laptop I think is that there is no option of built in 3G broadband and the resolution needs to be a little bigger.

Obs this is better than the acer BUT it's also 50% more in cost. For £199 delivered ( now it's running xp) I am delighted with it.

im looking to get one of these.. will wait until after this evening though just incase i spend a bit too much :D
#12
I bought an NC10 three weeks ago - paid £322 for the blue.
Superb - Although it comes with XP Home, I am now running Vista Home Premium, Office Pro 2007, Expression, and Kaspersky.
The specs (size of screen, processor power, memory) of all netbooks are dictated by Microsoft (if you have a windows version), and if using the Atom processor by Intel.
#13
I got the NC10 from Dixons online for £286 on Xmas day, got it delivered today and very happy with it. had my eye on it for weeks and was close to paying £318 RRP, glad I waited.
#14
Free delivery code?
#15
It is free delivery now as it was then.

Thanks just ordered a black one ..... and ordered the 2gb ram from Play.com .....

Nice

I think these are £100 over priced.

I believe in 3-6 months time they will be sub £200.
#18
they're GREAT! got mine for £272 from play (with quidco) in November, RAM is easily upgradable too if you want/need too. I got the black one...looks great but the outer casing is a fingerprint magnet!

review here: - http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/samsung-nc10.aspx

RAM upgrade how to video here: - http://www.laptopmag.com/advice/how-to/nc10-ram.aspx

best price at the moment. voted hot.

Heat and Rep added.

Also worth mentioning that this netbook has a battery of up to 7 hours if your reading on the net.

Personally, I'm waiting for the HP Mini 1000 MIE Edition.
#20
Does anyone have a link to the best 2GB RAM upgrades for this (on Play.com and prehaps others?)

i get about 6 1/2 hours with the backlight on lowest setting, realistically you'll get 4 1/2 - 5 hours.

i usually get about 4 1/2 with watching videos on my wireless network and browsing the net, still not to be sniffed at, the power pack is pretty small for this too.

touchpad is a bit fiddly too. worth getting a small mouse (i got a logitech Nano VX today, £19.99: - http://www.dixons.co.uk/martprd/store/dix_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1722647684.1230753898@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdkadegdhggfeecflgceggdhhmdfom.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=259566&category_oid=

might be worth ordering it if you're getting this from dixons anyway!

Using your logic, Why not wait 2-3 years time and pick one up off ebay for less than £150?!

Regardless of the price they may be in the future - we are in the here and now and this is the best price around.

I'd hurry up if considering buying

I've got an acer aspire one and its great. the netbook concept (thanks asus) is about to take off big time

its what most people want from a laptop, a cheap, physically small and lightweight note taking websurfing device not the desktop replacements that dell et al have been pushing

I've been looking for stock of the AAO 1GB/120GB in white, but stocks after xmas seem to be non-existent, so suspect the NC10 will suffer the same shortage, that coupled with GBPs hammering against the $ in the last month, suspect new stock coming from taiwan will be more expensive - unless we are very lucky and retailers absorb the increases
#27
BTW, from most accounts, the NC10 is better equiped than the acer aspire one
a) bigger screen
b) larger hard disk - 160GB instead of 120GB
c) longer battery life 6 cell as standard instead of 3 cell

but what swung it for me with the AAO was the £199 price tag, and the AAO is smaller and easier to carry around

nonemoremannion - does upgrading to 2GB of memory actually show any noticeable performance improvement?

if you're hammering it yeah, i multitask a lot on it, to be fair, the 1Gb would suffice for most things.
#31
Does hitting F5 continuously on http://www.hotukdeals.com constitute as hammering it? :-)
#32
Another vote for the Samsung. I get about 7-8 hours (on normal settings) if I'm just using it for the interweb.

If you want to upgrade to Vista - yes it does. If you are sticking with XP Home 1gb is fine.
#34
Also got a nc10 white from play for £274 with quidco, this netbook is the bomb.

My only complaint is the tiny trackpad and it not being recessed.
#35
I've got a blue NC10 plus got a VX Nano today.

SWMBO thought it was a 'toy' until she had a try this evening. Then announced that it'd be more useful for her!

I've had 7 hours of light use from the battery. Mine's running XP (don't want it to run Vista).
#36
A great price. Voted HOT!

I use mine all the time and it has an excellent battery life and a lovely bright screen.
Keyboard is great to use for prolonged periods.

The trackpad is small, but I always use a mouse (Logitech VX Nano is my choice).
#37
Love it, just got mine.

Voted Hot - terrific Netbook obtained following play.com offer.

Rendered my old Acer Travelmate 4100 obsolete in a stroke.

Keep it safe inside a swordfish netbook carry case which fits perfect - you do get a felt slip case but it only has a flap.

Good blog here:

I'd go for the Logitech V470 white myself although that is quite a good price for that MS Bluetooth mouse.
